The game of the year didn't change the top of The Associated Press poll. Ohio State was No. 1 and Michigan was No. 2 in the Top 25 on Sunday. The Big Ten rivals have held the top two spots in the media poll since Oct. 15. After the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines 42-39 in Columbus on Saturday in their regular-season finale, the voters decided to keep them there.

Ohio State (12-0) moves on to play in the BCS national title game on Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz. The Buckeyes have been No. 1 all season, and for the second time it was unanimous.

Southern California moved up a spot to No. 3 with a 23-9 victory over California that gave the Trojans the Pac-10's BCS bid and kept them in the national title hunt. USC (9-1) is only nine points behind Michigan.
...........................................................

Michigan is still #2 .....:142smilie :mj07: :142smilie

That loss to the Beavers really put USC on
Slippery slide to the Sugar Bowl.

Scott,

To answer your question, absolutely I would rather lose to a quality opponent than to lose to the Beavers. That argument is rediculous. You are going to spin everything the way YOU want to spin it. If USC lost to Cal and Mich. lost to Indiana, you would spin it the other way.

I am not going to argue with you back and forth. I gave my opinion and I do not need to argue. Apparently, several other people see it my way as well.

In baseball, you would rather lose a series to Yankess and beat the Royals? It is more impressive to beat beat the yanks and lose to royals.

In NFL, you would rather lose to the COLTS and beat the Raiders? It is more impressive to beat colts and lose to the raiders.

In NBA, you would rather lose to Spurs and beat the Bobcats? It is more impressive to beat the spurs and lose to bobcats.

If I am USC and Pete Carroll, I rather beat all the best teams on my schedule, and if I am going to lose one game, have it be against a sub par team. That is MUCH more impressive. BTW, Oregon St. is now almost ranked in the top 25. Would I feel better if USC lost to Arkansas or lost to Oregon St.? I rather BEAT ARKY and lose to Oregon St. YOu rather USC lose to ARKY and beat Oregon St.?

I be more impressed with Michigan if they beat Ohio St. and lost to Northwestern. YOU are more imrpessed with Michigan if they lost to Ohio St. and beat Northwestern.

Actually Arkansas should be ranked ahead of USC. USC lost more recently. A head to head result doesnt matter in this situation (see ND-Michigan analysis) because we dont want to reward the most recent losers. So they should have gone to the back of the line. I seem to have read this somewhere...

A freshman QB can get away with throwing the ball 10 times in a game and beat SEC teams. NOT AGAINST USC!

Only 6 RB's in the last 6 years have rushed for more than 100 yards against USC. :scared

USC has stopped many RB's just as good if not better than McFadden. I know 2 RB's SEC fans are familiar with that USC shut down. CADILAC and BROWN for AUBURN! :mj07:

If I remember correctly, USC opened up their passing attack against Arkansas in 2h and the SEC D (as usual) had NO CLUE how to defend a sophisticated passing attack. Just like the same ARKY D USC faced last year when USC hung 70 on them. Unfortunately for ARKY, USC still had their 2nd string FB who TORCHED THEM! Since then, USC has lost their #1 FB, #2 FB and #3 FB all out for the season! :(

If I remember correctly, Arkansas QB Mustain did play against USC. He lead Arky O to a TD drive against USC 2nd string D. Then on his next possession, he threw an INT against USC's 2nd string D.

USC wouldn't beat Arkansas 50-14 again unless they turned the ball over again. Without Arky or USC committing "a lot" of turnovers, USC prob. wins by 14-20pts.

Although USC D now is "a lot" better than the D Arky saw. That old USC D held Arky to 7pts @ARKY.

You have poor reading comprehension.

Michigan lost their LAST game of the season. Therefore, they do not get to redeem themselves. If Michigan goes to the BCS NC, that would be rewarding a LOSER. (they lost their last game of season)

Losing your LAST game of the season is different than losing a game in Sept. or Oct. If you lose EARLY, you can redeem yourself. Lose your last game of the season, YOU CANNOT REDEEM YOURSELF! You have to rely on voters rewarding you for LOSING!

ND lost to Michigan in Sept, and now has chance to redeem themselves. ND is lucky to have that chance and play USC @USC to end their season. A USC team that is more accomplished than Michigan.

USC lost to Oregon St. in Oct. but has had and still has multiple challenges to redeem themselves.

Arkansas lost to USC in Sept, and since then has redeemed themselves. Unfortunately for Arkansas, USC only has 1 loss, beat Arky @ARky 50-14, AND USC has more impressive resume.

Sorry West Coast haters.

If USC wins out...they will face Ohio State.

Michigan is #2 today, but their margin is gone.

Deal with it.

Sagrain ranks Pac-10 as #1 conference.

1. Pac-10
2. SEC
3. Big East
4. Big-10

Right or wrong, if USC wins their final two games, they will face Ohio State.

If USC loses one of those games, Michigan will go based on their current percentage points in the BCS ranking.

If Florida or Arkansas win out, it appears they will get screwed.

Scott...for the record, Michigan has wins over BCS ranked teams #5 (road), 8 and 25 (road) and their loss is to the BCS #1 ranked team.

USC has wins over BCS ranked teams #6 (road), 19 and 22, loss is to a BCS non-ranked team.

Is WISCONSIN one of those highly ranked BCS teams?

Is is true Wisconsin has played the following teams in OOC play?

at Bowling Green
Western Illinois
San Diego State
Buffalo

:scared :scared :scared

Couldn't Wisconsin play just 1 BCS team in OOC play? Or is that too much to ask? This looks like an SEC OOC schedule. :142smilie

Is is true Wisconsin did not play Ohio St.? :SIB

WISCONSIN did the BIG 10 PROUD! :toast:

I certainly do not give a CRAP about Wisconsin and their 11-1 record. :nooo:

However.....

FACTS ARE FACTS!

Wisconsin is one of the 3 BCS teams Michigan has beaten who has a winning record. PROPS TO MICHIGAN FOR BEATING an 11-1 Badger team!

Although USC may end the year beating 9 BCS teams with a winning record. 3x as many as Michigan. Oh who cares. I want a rematch of Michigan and OSU. Michigan lost by only 3pts despite being +3 turnovers. Maybe Ohio St. turns it over 4 times and Michigan wins straight up? We only can find out in a rematch!

Scott,

Your arguments make no sense for one reason, in all the sports you referenced, it does not matter, because there are PLAYOFFS!

If all those teams make the PLAYOFFS, then it does not matter. College football is the only sport where there are no PLAYOFFS, so when you lose to the BEAVERS:142smilie , you should not get rewarded.

So, arguments aside....

Realistically, does anyone have a shot at this thing besides Ohio State, Michigan, and USC?

I'd say no, but I don't really know how the computer stuff works. I just know its only 1/3 of the BCS.

I'd say not TD. There may be some last minute backlash by a handful voters if it looks like a rematch is possible. For instance, some writers down south vote Michigan #8 in their last polls to screw the system.

I see it playing out this way: USC wins a competitive game vs ND and wins a close game against UCLA. Arkansas loses to LSU and beats Florida. USC vs OSU in BCS champ. LSU/Fla vs UM in the Rose. ND vs Ark in Sugar. Texas vs Boise in Sugar (minus whatever bowl GOY), GT vs WVU in Orange. Some good matchups in there and let's all hope Nevada beats Boise so the Fiesta bowl isn't a mockery of the game.

In any case, UM lost so I am not going to go on a posting rampage begging for my team to be included like IliveInMyParentsBasement4USC. I do feel UM is the 2nd best team in the country, and I can make arguments to support this. I'm sure people can make arguments otherwise. The only scenario I would be upset with is if ND makes the championship game after being pasted by UM. That obviously looks unlikely now.

I see almost the same thing happening. I think Florida wins out after their scare last week with SCarolina.

Biggest thing about ND/Mich is that it was the 3rd game of the season. I like the regular season meaning something, but thats just too much emphasis on one early game. I could understand if it was to determine a playoff seed. Same thing with USC/Ark.
Thats why we need a new system.

I also hate people saying where games are played and how much they won by. Who cares? Mark May said if Mich beats OSU on a neutral field then that proves they are better. Well, at that point, its tied 1-1. Game 3 should then be at the Big House.

I would tend to agree with you if the ND/UM game was competitive, but it was not. ND has one above avg win (@ GT), one avg win (home vs Penn State), and a bunch of slop. Not much of a resume when you consider what UM did to them. They deserve to be at 5-6 right now. If they beat USC, I say move em up to 3-4, depending how things play out in the SEC.

I do feel UM is the 2nd best team in the country, and I can make arguments to support this.

Michigan beating only 3 BCS teams with a winning record? Compared to USC who already has 7 and may end the year with as many as 9!

Michigan OOC wins against Vandy, Ball St. and CMU? Compared to USC who has OOC wins @Arkansas and Nebraska!

Why exactly is Michigan the 2nd best team in the country? Because they were down 11pts with 5min. left in the game despite being +3 turnovers?

Is Michigan the 2nd best team in the country because they gave up 42pts to Ohio St. when MICHIGAN had ZERO turnovers and Ohio St. having 3 turnovers? Would OSU score 50+ if they didn't turn it over? What if Michigan turned it over, would OSU score 60+?

Curious to what arguments you could make. IF ANY?
