Smells good around here...
Well, Its 8:00 and I already retired to my special computer seat after slicing my thumb along with the tomatoes. We start preparing on Wednesday evening and the turnips, cranberries,salads,are ready to go,beans are frenched and potatoes peeled, breads are made.......my daughter-in-law is bringing pies and sweet potatoes, the 22lb turkey is stuffed and in the oven ... you get the jist of what is to come. The bets are in and the beer is cold!
I've got my beautiful wife..and 3 boys here along with my 2 grandchildren. 2 of my 3 brothers will also be here today........We are all well..........I am a lucky man.
Lucky in the sense that we have always been able to gather this way on Thanksgiving and truly give thanks for our blessings.....and believe me ...we are blessed!
Well, for whatever reason, not everyone is so lucky so tomorrow I'm up early to make ham sandwiches to distribute to 150 or so at the homeless shelter.
Volunteers galore today but the need continues so we (through our church) do what we can on some of the off days. Great people down there..some just down on their luck,some disabled, mental illness,
etc. and left to fend for themselves. Sometimes its not pretty but always meaningful to me........ So ....again I am lucky...Lucky for all the Family and the ability to gather today and lucky to be able and have the opportunity and the motivation to get active and GIVE to help those less fortunate. As I get older....it begins to mean more than the...............Huge $$$$ ($50) that I'll cash when Detroit beats Miami today!
