Get the boss a Christmas Gift?

I always face this quandry. Do you get the boss a Christmas gift?

It is not a kiss up situation, as she basically has limited control over me, but she is still a boss type figure.

She got me a bottle of wine last year, and I got her nothing.

Any tips?

i've been self employed since i was 20 and had as many as 25 people working for me in various ventures and i never expected a gift from employees or felt anything bad about them if i didn't get one.

If you believe that she is going to be giving you a gift this year again, then yes. Id have something ready when she approaches but if she doesnt then you can regift/exchange/drink it.

I, personally, don't think it should be based on whether or not you will be receiving one. NOTE: your original message did not come off as a tit for tat.

I got my boss and my bosses boss $25 and $50 restaurant gift certificates. They didn't get me shit, and if they did it's sitting back at my office. I'm sure they liked them. Anyway, I'm on vacation until 1/8/2007 and I DO NOT plan on coming back to that job. I'm going to call in 1/5/07 and tell them I quit. Now I didn't know this when I bought the GC's and gave them to them but about a day or two later I received an offer. Sort of feel like a dumb ass given the situation, but oh well.
