Scott seems to imply through his various posts that teams that finish 10-3, 9-3, 8-4 etc are "losers" and shouldn't get any special consideration.
I think you have to consider who you play, where you play, and your teams success when considering a player for the Heisman. Therefore it is imperative to mention that Brennan has lead Hawaii to 3 losses this year and Hawaii has played the #101 ranked SOS. (which is pretty bad) Quinn played the #20 SOS and Smith played #40 SOS.
Brennan is a product of his system
I also would add his stats are a product of his competition! Remember, Brennan has lead Hawaii to 3 losses playing the #101 ranked SOS.
but you simply can't ignore the fact that the guy set the single season TD record for all DIV I NCAA. This warrants a look by the heisman committee by itself.
I gave him credit and said he has accomplished a lot. He is a great player. However, he is NOT in the same league as Quinn or Smith in terms of Heisman worthy.
"Brennan lead his team to 3 losses"? So what.........does that make them any less successful?
NO, but for me to give him serious heisman consideration, he must elevate his team to greatness. LOSING 3 games playing the #101 ranked SOS is not a great accomplishment. NOT HEISMAN WORTHY! That is my opinion.
well it works for them!
NO, Hawaii has 3 losses playing the #101 ranked SOS. So NO, it did not work. It was good enough to get Hawaii to a bowl game @UH and bowl win, but losing 3 games playing the #101 SOS isn't that big of an accomplishment IN MY MIND.
I just can't get over the fact that you throw around the term "loser" for every team that fails to go undefeated...........that is ridiculous.........there are too many intangibles in any season...ie: weather, player problems, university support, playing on the road, I could go on and on............
:nono: :nono: :nono:
I never called Hawaii or Brennan a loser. I think Brennan is a great QB and Hawaii had a solid season.
Where are you coming from?
Are you calling USC losers, because they went 10-2? Of course your not............You must be jealous of Brennans accomplishments, that is in comparison to Booty. From what I have seen, Brennan is the better QB, in all facets of the game. Pete Carroll would probably love to have this competitor on his roster.
You have no argument here.
#1 Booty lead USC to 10-2 season as 1st year starter! Only 2 losses!
#2 USC suffered tremendous amount of injuries.
#3 USC only started 3 seniors on offense and 1 senior on defense! :scared
#4 USC was in a rebuilding year offensively and defensively. Only 2 losses?
#5 USC had 2 losses, 2pts on road and 4pts on road to rival. WOW!
#6 USC played the #2 ranked SOS. (brennan faced #101 ranked SOS)
CASE CLOSED ON THAT ARGUMENT! Booty was huge success. Next year he will lead USC to a BCS National Championship. Prob. won't be difficult either. Brennan is good for 3 losses playing #101 ranked SOS.
I'm not saying that Brennan deserves to win the Heisman, but there is no reason he shouldn't be considered in the race.............his numbers make him worthy. Troy deserved the Heisman this year, but that doesn't mean other players didn't deserved to mentioned in the same breathe.
How many qb's do you want to invite? Brennan did not deserve to go over Smith and Quinn. Both Smith and Quinn put up stellar #'s against far better competition. Neither player lead his team to 3 losses.
"How many losses does Hawaii have playing one of the worst STRENGTH OF SCHEDULES IN THE COUNTRY? Answer: 3".......... yes but what was their SOS non-conference????? You skew the numbers to suit your argument, and that isn't really fair. Their 3 losses were to an undefeated Boise ST., a middle of the road SEC team (one of the tougher venues to play in) and to a much improved Beaver team. They have nothing to hang their heads over.
Hawaii and Brennan had a very good year. Especially Brennan. However, you have to look at everything when comparing players. Unfortunately, Brennan doesn't stack up well compared to Quinn and Smith.
If we are to believe your argument then we may as well tell all teams that play in a mid-major conference to forget about it.........you will never have a player worthy of Heisman standing. Just tell them to stay home and play intra-mural flag football.
If Brennan lead Hawaii to an undefeated season and put up same stats, well, I would give him the Heisman over Smith. Even though he played $hit competition. If Brennan lead Hawaii to 1 loss, then I would invite him to NY. 2 losses are debatable, and 3 losses he gets a pat on the back but gets left out.
BTW: the last I checked, these mid-majors have made a pretty good showing against those elite conference........ie: PAC 10? If I were you, I would concerned for your Trojans in the Rose Bowl...............
No BCS team wants to play these mid-majors. They don't give a crap. Meaningless bowls.
I am excited for USC/Michigan and other BCS bowls.
I am not too concerned about USC. USC is a super young team, this year as long as they compete I am happy. USC competes in every game they play in. This is a major rebuilding year for USC and USC almost earned a trip to the BCS NC game. WOW!
BTW, all the juniors at USC said they are coming back next year. Only Jarret is expected to leave for NFL early. SCARY!
USC only loses 4 senior starters, 1 junior, and gets back a whole bunch of players who got injured this season. WOW!
Not too worried about Michigan. I think USC wins the game but prob. will go down to the last minute.
