The epithet "Bloody Mary" is associated with a number of historical and fictional women, most notably Queen Mary I of England (see Bloody Mary (person) for others); however, there is no known connection between the name of the cocktail and any of these people. The name is clearly used to refer to the blood-like colour of the cocktail[citation needed].

The first citation of "Bloody Mary" is from the New York Herald Tribune, 2nd December 1939: "George Jessel?s newest pick-me-up which is receiving attention from the town?s paragraphers is called a Bloody Mary: half tomato juice, half vodka."

steve mcnair loves them

lol boys, neither one has a chance for a ring. McNair will have a chance but he will fall short in the AFC championship to Brady. Listen to me now, SD goes out in their first game as Rivers gets baffled and has a horrible game. Brady gets his 4th ring as the Pats take care of the Bears for revenge

Where did the phrase "happy as a clam" come from? I mean, how is it possible to measure the happiness of a clam?

glad you asked buddy

The saying is very definitely American, hardly known elsewhere. The fact is, we?ve lost its second half, which makes everything clear. The full expression is happy as a clam at high tide or happy as a clam at high water. Clam digging has to be done at low tide, when you stand a chance of finding them and extracting them. At high water, clams are comfortably covered in water and so able to feed, comparatively at ease and free of the risk that some hunter will rip them untimely from their sandy berths. I guess that?s a good enough definition of happy.

The saying in its shortened form is first recorded in the 1830s, though it is almost certainly a lot older; by 1848 the Southern Literary Messenger of Richmond, Virginia could say that the expression in its short form ?is familiar to every one?.

and rex, good to see you bud. don't agree on brady and the pats. might not be the superchargers, but definitely won't be the ravens.

For that matter, why do they call him MADjack, I mean what's he so mad about anyway?

Doesn't have a job.

Is in Costa Rica half the year.

Wife let's him go to the bar to watch the game while she gets the house ready for guests.

Biggest concern is where the name "Bloody Mary' came from.

Doesn't seem like a lot to be MAD about?!?

Doesn't have a job.

i even get that shit from family

well.....

it might be easy
it might be fun
it might even pay well

but

for 9 years i have been sitting in front of a machine for a minimum of 18 hours a day.

i have to deal with disputes between books and players.

i have to answer 100's of emails daily and try to be nice even with the stupidest of questions.

i have to try and make 1000's of people happy (impossible) and help them get along (impossible)

i am threatened all the time, spammed all the time, phone calls off the hook.

someone threatened to sue me just today because people post dr bob's picks

the site goes down and i have to deal with techs that could give a shit about you guys getting on the site.

yea boy, it's a blast sometimes. just ask IE :)

ut oh. i'll be back later. i just got an email to load an avatar for somebody. i have to download it, resize it, upload it to the server, load it into the forum software, look the member up, get into his profile and load it in there for him.

i really do love this job though and all the people that visit here.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

sincerely,

Jack

I just said you don't have a job, I didn't say you don't work.

I can only imagine how much work a site like this is. I'm responsible for only a handful of poeple where I work at and I know what a circus that becomes.

Happy New Year!
