My dad is a type 1 diabetic and just got word my brother had to rush him to the hospital. I believe it is Diabetic Ketoacidosis and he will be alright, just have to spend a couple days in ICU, but there could very easily be a lot more. At least I got to speak to him on the phone, but he was a little incoherent. Just keep him in your thoughts...he is still young 47.

Keep everyone updated when I here...I may have to rush down to SA once I hear.

Thanks guys...

Got my first update...he is sleeping now but he was throwing up blood earlier. He is in DKA, sweating and shivering and incoherent. Blood results come back in an hour to see what the underlying problem is.

I realized I posted the wrong age...my dad is actually 44 my mom 47, so he is even younger. He is not overweight either ( 5'10" 185lbs). I have spent the last two days in MICU just sitting there waiting with him keeping him company. My dad found out he had Type 1 diabetes while in the Army so he is considered a Disabilited Vet and uses the VA hospital. They just seem to take forever in that place. We know absolutely nothing yet but here are the updates I have so far:

Something? We don't know what yet triggered him into the DKA that I said I thought it was from the beginning. I thought it was just a virus or the flu but both have been ruled out after testing. His ketones when he was finally admitted into the hospital were around 95 which is deadly. Every other time he has had DKA his ketones have been around 20. They got the DKA stablized yesterday but he still can't hold down anything in his stomach. He know has gone about 40hrs stablized but still unable to hold anything down, and the doctor finally said there is something wrong. They will be doing CAT scans and a couple other tests that I can't remember the name of in the morning.

I wanted to thank all of you for all of your support on here. None of you know me personally but yet you show so much support for my family. I will be back as soon as they will let me tomorrow. Thanks!
