Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
I know there are a number of you guys that would know how to proceed with this, so here goes.......

Yesterday I had my (work's) laptop stolen from the lobby of a Ramada Hotel. Had my three bags sitting out in the open in a pile, with laptop and carrying case on top. By coincidence, they are all black, so I did a double take when looking back at it! It was about 12 feet away, and in less than 5 minutes, it was gone.:com:. Went to get the coffee, and made a phone call, which is what distracted me enough for the theif to take off with it. I know I should have been more careful, and lugged the stuff with me, but one bag was huge/heavy, and no one was around! My bad is that it was near the restroom and one of the exits, so it made for an easy swipe:nono:

How would you deal with this? My homeowners, or let work deal with it? Say they say, "You lost it, you pay?" Would like some feed back before I file a claim thru my homeowners like a few have told me. Gave all the info to the police after they showed up.
One friend told me to start checking E-Bay:scared
Oh, and my deductible is $1000.00 :(

Thanks ahead for any advice...

Agent,
Whats your take on this?

Franky

Congrats on the Colts Win!

Please remember I am in a week long Vegas fog but your homeowners will only cover prob up to $250 on biz property. Your work should def have insurance on it and that is the direction to take. Even if your policy would cover it, last thing you need to do is go popping a theft claim on there:nono:

Those REALLY don't go over well.

Ok, thanks...
Here is some more to think about when you sober up!:scared :mj07:
Employer says he has deductible of $1500:SIB I think I'm screwed. Should I just fork out $8-900 for a new one and be done with it, or ?

Just once I would give anything to catch one of these ballzy fockers in the act:box2: :mj17: :cuss:

Franky dont feel to bad my buddies house got robbed Christmas eve night and he owns a computer company. They stole all his computers and all the ones he was working on. Can you imagine telling people their personal info is now in the hands of a bunch of crooks? True to form the insurance company is givng him a hard time. All the money he was supposed to be making is gone and he has to get all these people new comp's. Just a big mess.

Franky, you def do not want to put it on your personal homeowners policy. That $1500 deductible sounds fishy to me....I broke my work laptop playing internet pok......errrrrrr uh I slipped on the ice, and I had a new screen the next day no questions asked. How can they possibly hold you responsible? Was this a business trip?

most homeowners policy have limited coverage for business personal property if it is damaged by a covered loss on premises(your home), most exclude business personal propery away from the premisis(the risk is inceased when it is away from your home) if you own it, probably best to just get another one and then take a casualty loss on your taxes next next yr. if your employer owns it i would think they would cover it. good luck
