Interesting. I remember when the democrats voted against the funding of troops, for understandable reasons...and they were roundly criticized for aiding the enemy, supporting the terrorists, and not supporting our troops. Now they vote to fund the troops, and Bush is going to veto it for understandable reasons to his supporters. I guess to be fair, George Bush will soon be aiding the enemy, supporting the terrorists, and not supporting our troops.

Welcome to fair and balanced, biyatches.

The bill as presented mandates an end of 2008 troop withdrawal, among other things. I'm have not studied all of this yet, just found the obvious analogy of how the democrats were ripped unmercifully for the base commentary of "voting against supporting the troops," despite obviously not meaning that with their objections.

It was done in this forum, and everywhere else. If the people felt it appropriate then, I assume they will appropriately assume the responsibility now, right? lol.

i just read a little about it but its to early to get much. If the Dems loaded it up with some pork then they deserve to get criticize. If they had brains they would send him a straight bill all going to the troops and no other bullshit. This will kill him that he can't just piss the money away again. Enough of spending money to rebuild that place. Are they pumping any oil over there? Its about time they spend a little of there own money. Where the hell is there oil money going? the neocons have no problem dumping as much money as we could over there but my goodness spend some on health care over here and they have a big problem with this.

Bush veto's funding of troops--??? Which blog did you read that on???

I don't even have to look that one up :)

I believe you may want to read a real report--

Some quotes from your people--

"The American people do not support a war without end and neither should this Congress," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) of California, calling the Iraq war "a grotesque mistake"

"One of the things that accounted for this result," said Massachusetts Democrat Barney Frank (news, bio, voting record), "is that public opinion has continued to move. ... People are very anti-war."

Public opinion???--What is public opinion--their media's poll of 1000 people in the hood??

I really hate to burst anyone's bubble but lets back you baack a few months before the real poll in 04 for a little de ja vu--

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/24/opinion/polls/main619122.shtml

Poll: Iraq Taking Toll On Bush
President?s Popularity Drops To New Low; Kerry Moves Ahead

NEW YORK, May 24, 2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(CBS)

The President?s approval rating has dropped to a new low of 41 percent, and more than six in ten say the country is heading in the wrong direction.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(CBS) Growing public concern about the war in Iraq, the coming handover of power to Iraqis on June 30, and the prisoner abuse scandals there, have taken their toll on evaluations of President George W. Bush. And the last few weeks have provided no good news on the domestic front: Americans have lackluster expectations for the economy, and the new worry of rising gas prices. The President?s approval rating has dropped to a new low of 41 percent, and more than six in ten say the country is heading in the wrong direction.

There is another good reason for the President?s series of speeches on plans for Iraq, the first of which takes place tonight. Even though opinions of Bush?s Democratic challenger, Senator John Kerry, haven?t changed much, Bush?s troubles have given Kerry a clear lead in the horserace -- if the November election were being held today. Independent voters seem to have been especially affected. Overall, 49 percent of registered voters now say they would vote for Kerry, 41 percent for Bush.

GEORGE W. BUSH
Bush?s overall job approval rating has continued to decline. 41 percent approve of the job he is doing as President, while 52 percent disapprove -- the lowest overall job rating of his presidency. Two weeks ago, 44 percent approved. A year ago, nearly two-thirds did.

As concern about the situation in Iraq grows, 65 percent now say the country is on the wrong track -- matching the highest number ever recorded in CBS News Polls since the question was first asked in the mid-1980?s. Only 30 percent currently say things in this country are headed in the right direction. One year ago, in April 2003, 56 percent of Americans said the country was headed in the right direction.

Majorities disapprove of the way Bush is handling foreign policy and the economy. Terrorism remains the only positive area for the President -- a majority of 51 percent approve of the way he is handling the campaign against terrorism. But that number matches his lowest rating on that issue, which occurred earlier this month.

Just 37 percent -- the lowest number in his presidency -- now approve of Bush?s handling of foreign policy, while 56 percent disapprove. Bush?s ratings on the economy are similar: 36 percent approve of his handling of it and 57 percent disapprove.

50 percent say the Bush Administration?s policies have made the country safer from terrorism, not much changed from what people said a month ago.

THE WAR IN IRAQ
The war in Iraq clearly has turned into a liability for President Bush. Negative views of U.S. involvement there remain widespread and the public expresses little confidence in the President or his administration?s ability to manage the situation. Few think the Administration has developed a clear plan for turning power over to Iraqis on June 30th -- an event most Americans think ought to happen on schedule, but probably won?t.

THE JUNE 30TH HANDOVER
By a large margin, Americans think the U.S. handover of power to Iraqis should occur on June 30th, as promised by the Bush Administration. But by an even greater margin, Americans see that as unlikely. 57 percent think the turnover should take place as scheduled, but 63 percent think it will not.

Doubts about whether or not Iraqis will take control of their country on June 30th may be tied to doubts about the Bush Administration?s preparation for the handover. In interviewing conducted in the four days before tonight?s speech to the nation about Iraq, 60 percent think there is as yet no clear plan for the handover of power, while 24 percent think there is a plan -- fewer than thought so last month.

Even some Republicans are dubious about the Administration?s planning. 36 percent of Republicans think the Administration does not yet have a clear plan, while 47 percent think it does. Democrats are surer -- 76 percent of them think the Administration does not have a clear plan for the transfer of power.

The June 30th handover cannot come too quickly for many Americans. Nearly half think that it is time to completely pull U.S. troops out of Iraq. 49 percent want the U.S. to turn control of Iraq over to Iraqis as soon as possible, even if Iraq is not completely stable. Still, almost as many -- 45 percent -- think U.S. troops ought to stay in Iraq as long as it takes to make sure the country is a stable democracy.

Republicans are among the few groups that support keeping U.S. troops in Iraq as long as it takes. Those most anxious to pull U.S. troops out soon are women, Democrats, Independents, and people over age 30. Men, veterans and military families are divided.

OVERALL VIEWS OF THE WAR
Views of the war in Iraq have been mostly negative since early April, when U.S. casualties-- both military and civilian -- began to mount. Most Americans see the war as not going well for the U.S. 60 percent think it is going somewhat or very badly, while 37 percent think it is going somewhat or very well -- just about the opposite of views last summer. Those who see it as going badly want U.S. troops out as soon as possible.

Mel Gibson For President

Mel Gibson For President

The damage was done long ago when bush sent these valiant heroes to do cheneys bidding on a bunch of chit merchant money schemes..

Why doesn't bush stop pandering and whimpering for cash ? He is gonna get the money anyway. he truly sounded pathetic today. What an actor.

Bush wants Iraq to have a democracy, what a joke....i am actually touched that he cares so much about the iraquis. :142smilie

if only bush had a stitch of truth in him ! this is sad, 8 years with a complete failure, and the dimwits trying to justify this pathetic mess that bush has made.

Two perfect responses, thank you Wayne and Weasel. Wayne criticizes me for getting something from a blog (in reality it was from my head, and my memory of how liberals and democrats were attacked) and then grabs something obscure and unreferenced attributed to Pelosi and Frank (my people?!?!) and then attacking your quoter...typical...

I made a very appropriate post, very on point, and the lackeys resist when put in the same position they put me in months ago. Simple question for you Wayne, if you can avoid cluttering it up...

Did the democrats push through passed legislation that approved funding of the troops today? Yes or no would be appropriate responses. Did George Bush immediately come out after and say he would veto the passed legislation? Again...a simple answer is yes or no. It's the same standard you held democrats to previously, and incessantly ripped them for afterwards.

Is it fair? Well, was it fair then? I know you don't like this line of questioning, and I see you took dramatic, panicky steps to avoid the point. Understandable. You are a tribute to your leaders.

And Weasel...your commentary is as usual spot on. You were - and are - the most critical of anyone not voting to fund the troops - and now your boy is going to veto it. You gave no room on this, you held democrats to the ultimate standard, and now it's conveniently different.

I would say that a majority of troops in Iraq, much like those back here now, and those ready to roll again, would prefer not to go back. How better to support them than to pull them back from an embarrassing decision, and allow them to return to their lives, their families. You are right about one thing. The damage HAS been done by this administration. To our military, to our economy, to our standing in the world. To more than 3200 soldiers. To their extended families and friends. To our preparedness to fight the ACTUAL terrorists.

I give the troops more credit than you do. I think they can see and read what everyone says. You seem to NOW think that funding the troops and putting a reasonable timeframe on sensible actions is distressing to the troops. I guess they are just too stupid to have any thoughts for themselves. I guess if they'd prefer to be home and not standing around waiting to get blown up, then they are not brave? It's ludicrous.

You guys rip the dems when they talk about not funding the war. You rip them when they do, but ask for some kind of end to the madness. You guys have grown very comfortable in trying to steamroll anyone that doesn't agree with what you are told to believe. You defend them to the end. Hang in there. You guys get weaker every time you try to paint the opposition as being weak.

Bush has been so miss guided or just a plan fool about Iraq for so long. Why should anything change now. He still thinks we are at war in Iraq. The Iraqi's are with each other. That's big difference. That's why over 64% of Americans want the troops out.

The Republicans did the same weasal move as the Dems and loaded up the first "Support the Troops" bill with other garbage. This is an excellent post. We get nothing but propaganda from the Right Wingers on this and it is not unpatriotic to be against this absolute debacle of an adventure.

if you read the msm(as i`m sure you do),the whole country wants out of iraq...ramifications be damned...

so,what`s the hang-up?....

JUST DO IT...OUT IN THE OPEN.....show some sac...

one good thing....thankfully,we won`t have to hear ahmadinnerjacket gloat about the outcome of the vote during his appearance at the u.n.("useless nitwits") this weekend.....

weasal let me give you and answer to this question i have seen you post a few times. they wont do that because Rove and his clan will use it against them to embarass them in elections. Now if i was in congress i would do this and sit there and explain why i did this. rove will take a tiny piece of the bill and use it against democrats. Now this is a despicable thing to do but if the dems had balls they would know how to deal with this. Unfortunately im on the side of the ballest party and you are on the thieves party . its that simple bro.

--and yes they do read and see--and would not surprise me if some do not go postal on the radical liberal element in the near future.

I do mean what EVERYONE says, inclusive of conservative blogs, liberal blogs, whatever. I do find it illuminating that what they heard until the not to recent past was controlled and differing viewpoints from many sources - some not wacko liberals that had a negative view of this war - were kept from them and prevented them from hearing the whole story. Why? A valid point would be that they are fighting on behalf of an administration who lied to both them and to the world, and continually changed the reasoning why they were there, and continue to remain there. What is worse for morale, if that is your take? I'd say that would rank right up there in demoralizing values. Kudos to the troops who can continue to put up a brave front for those who lack the same character and sense of values.

Again with the CNN poll? I thought you wanted us to dispense with the believability of polls? I guess they can be used to strengthen a point, then? I didn't miss it. I gave it the same value I do most polls...they are usually done for a reason and to determine a result for a cause. In some ways, anyway. You continue to pound on 2004, I can continue to pound on 2006, and could Google and find countless polls that turned out to be quite accurate when portraying unhappiness in this administration and the majority, when viewing the 2006 vote. I expect much more of the same in 2008, unlike you, who attempts to undermine that at every turn with the usual talking points. We'll see, I guess.

Your old line about democrats defending the enemy is meaningless, IMO. If democrats find fault with what republicans and this administration does, you label them aiders to a terror cause. Which is taking it to a level that is just wrong, IMO. And the funny thing is...what upside is there for soldiers to complain about their lot in life, and openly find fault with superiors and the "Commander in Chief" of the military? Can you say, "Code Red?" Apparently, you can't handle the truth, counselor. Yeah...I'll bet all the soldiers and national guardspeople would rather be in Iraq than elsewhere, and none of them appreciate democrats trying to bring them home. Whatever you think, patriot. I know what I think...seems like common sense, but maybe not.

Bush never had any intentions of leaving IRAQ, as long as the money kept coming.

He will conjure up a new scheme if he doesn't get the funding..However , I think he will egt it anyway.

This is his golden oppotunity for him to cut and run from IRAQ.

All the polls in the world can't stop a clever 1 minute commercial that clueless people fall for. Kinda like the Kerry commericial when he said "he voted for it before he voted against it" This was crushing but Kerry the jackass could have explained this but he never did. I had to go explain this for him fifty thousand times but i wasn't running for president he was. We need a salary cap badly in politics.
