to be clear about the mosquito magnet, it seems to work in the lab, but I have my doubts about it in the field---it will trap and kill lots of mosquitos, but that may well not compensate for the additional crowds of 'em it attracts.
Most of those ticks (only part of the collection appear in the photo) I pulled off me or my stuff as they were crawling around. Some I did get by doing sweeps, taking a white shirt and brushing it along the vegetation to see if they are hanging out in certain areas--testing effectiveness of barriers, and learn about thier habits and range.
I won't be around the property all the time, I'll be travelling almost half the year, so the guinea hens are out. Some folks do have them, but I don't like the noise and their habit of crapping on your roof.
