Come on, its interesting-isnt it?

A Story of Two Houses

HOUSE # 1:

A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural
gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated
by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the
average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for
electricity and natural gas runs over $2, 400.00 per month. In natural gas
alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American
Home. This house is not in the northern or Midwestern ?snow belt .? It?s in the South.

HOUSE # 2:

Designed by an architecture professor, this house incorporates
every ?green? features that current home construction can provide. The
house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid-high
prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds
geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the
ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and
cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels?such as oil or natural
gas?and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional
heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a
25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and
toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The
collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and
shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.

ANSWERS:
HOUSE # 1 is outside of
Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of
that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker), Al Gore.

HOUSE # 2 is on a ranch near
Crawford, Texas. It is the private
residence of the President of the
United States, George W. Bush

So, George waters his plants with used poop water. Big deal. Some of us knew he stunk long ago...speaking of an inconvenient truth...;)

What is the point? The gas prices are thru the roof. that is what i care about. If what you are saying is true you found a hypocrite politician. find me one that isn't a hypocrite and then you have something. Do you think we are being gouged or do you think it is Gores fault?Your hatred of Gore rivals Pujo's hatred of Cheney. I know one thing if the election wasn't stolen in 00 we sure as hell wouldn't be bogged down in this god awful war the clowns you support got us into.

I dont recall this thread being about gas prices, pujo, 2000 election or the war in iraq...
so when you ask what is my point, i ask you, what is your point?

That is my point. Usually some of my post is on topic. I have notice this bothers about three of the 5000 people on this site if you change the thread a bit. Not talking about you tho as one of the three.

Did you guys ever stop and think that maybe Bush did this to save money for himself, and not to save energy or water? I have no idea what his motivation was for building his home that way, but during my time working for a rural electric company, we convinced many people (who could afford to spend the money) to go with geothermal heat pumps, because they could join our energy management program - thus saving them quite a bit every month on their energy bills. Don't remember a person who mentioned saving gas for our "future" or anything environmental in their decision. It makes good financial sense to do that, if you can afford the additional cost upfront to install the equipment - and G-Dub certainly could do that. Secondly, recycling rain water (how much of that would there be, really?) to water plants would save on water bills if they didn't have a well, and if they did have a well, then I doubt it was much of an environmental concern. More like don't use up our water so fast so we don't have to dig another well.

I would also guess he had a pretty good idea that the oil/gas companies were going to be positioned well in the future and prices would be high from time to time, with the plans that had been put in place for his future, and that electricity would be smarter than natural gas.

Just sayin'. I'd buy that story more than to think George Bush was building his house to save the environment.

My gas/electric bill is like 25 bucks a month. God bless living in apartments. :00hour

what i pay in taxes a month makes me wonder what the heck i am doing sitting in my home. I could get a decent apartment, move anytime i want and never cut a lawn again plus hopefully have your energy bill. they say that owning your own home is a great investment but when i think of all the money i piss away on taxes, mortgage interest, up keep etc.. Is it really?

One wonders how much energy would be saved if G-Dub would spend some time in the White House and not fly Air Force One back and forth every few days to vacation at the homestead. He could have all those Crawford lights off and not use any water at all, eh?

That's a good point, and it makes me wonder if Bush did any solar stuff in the house.

Hey sam, where did you get the description you used of Bush's Crawford "Green-Designed" House? Did it talk about the other features, or just the plumbing/heat exchange stuff?

Yeah I'm sure I will eventually regret not buying a house in the burbs someday. But, I'm still relatively young.

I'm pretty lucky in that I don't have or need an air conditioner and haven't used a heater in a few years, or else my bill would obviously be higher.

I think I know why you have this problem...

we just don't live in them!" -Sam Kinison

Yeah, SF, is kinda weird with AC. I've never seen a house or apartment here ... ever, that had AC. So in there rare instances it does get hot, you just kinda suffer until the fog rolls in.

I'm sure around LA they do though.

You can get the job done with a fan or two pretty much anywhere on the Cal coast. It's a nice thing.

You think that is a lot? I won't even say what my average electric bill is, I would never be called a "liberal" again, and I have worked hard to get that label.
