Congressman Found Dead in Apartment

WASHINGTON (Sept. 5) - Ohio Rep. Paul Gillmor, a Republican whose political career covered four decades, has died, party officials said.

"Born, raised and educated in our home state of Ohio, Paul never lost sight of the reason he came to Congress - to serve this great institution and his constituents with dedication and distinction," House Republican Leader John Boehner , also of Ohio, said in a statement.

"With the passing of Paul Gillmor, the people of northwest Ohio have lost a favorite son," said House Republican Conference Chairman Adam Putnam , R-Fla.

The body of the 68-year-old congressman was found by staff members who went to his apartment Wednesday after he failed to show up for work, according to a Republican aide who spoke on condition of anonymity pending an official announcement. There was no immediate word on the cause of his death.

Gillmor's office did not respond to a reporter's call.

Gillmor had been in Ohio last week to attend a series of town meetings and tour areas of the state that were hit hard by flooding. "His sudden passing is a shock to us all and he will be greatly missed," Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted said in a statement.

Gillmor, who represented Ohio's heavily Republican 5th District in the Bowling Green area, was first elected to Congress in 1988.

He served as a Vietnam War-era judge advocate in the Air Force after graduating law school, won a seat in the Ohio state senate in 1966, and served there for 22 years, rising to the senate presidency. After an unsuccessful run for governor in 1986, Gillmor was elected to the U.S. House in 1988 after eking out a 27-vote victory in the primary.

As a House member he was a little-known but solid Republican vote, a reliable conservative on social issues, and a strong proponent of the military.

He led legislative efforts in such areas as cleanups of commercially contaminated sites known as brownfields and enacting financial service reforms. He was also a strong advocate of a constitutional amendment to ban unfunded mandates on the states.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, and five children.

Maybe we could get Edwards views on these civil liberties issues :)

Standing By Their Man

Some supporters of Sen. Larry Craig are plenty mad ? not at him ? but at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. The American Land Rights Association is calling for a boycott of the airport ? where a police officer arrested Craig and accused him of soliciting sex in a restroom.

The land rights group says that police are responsible for weakening private property rights in the west by going after Craig ? who is a member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and has supported their cause in Congress.

The group is calling for the airport to apologize for what it calls "ambushing" the senator.

Passive Resistance

Immigrant-rights groups in Massachusetts are engaged in an underground campaign to train illegal aliens on how to react when federal agents show up. The Boston Globe reports the grassroots sessions advise illegals to keep their lips sealed and their doors shut unless authorities have a search warrant.

They are told to ask for lawyers and advised against lying, carrying false documents or running away. The ACLU says the training sessions are a form of constitutionally protected free speech.

But federal authorities say the campaign undermines immigration law and could provide assistance to people guilty of other crimes. The head of one Washington-based immigration group calls the training "immoral."

It wasn't me. I have an alibi. The night Gilmour died, I was in my front yard practicing my golf swing waiting for a limo to take me to the airport. I was taking the red eye to Chicago that night.

Ya see, I went to the Madjacks golf outing last July in Columbus, Indiana. Private Petey and I are waiting at the first tee at Otter Creek and no one showed up.

So, we head over to the local watering hole at the Holiday Inn and I meet this hot little number from Chicago named Maria. She's sittin at the bar all by herself bitchin about her old man with a short little pecker and a temper to match.

After a few Mai Tai's we take the Otis up to her room, do the mombo in the sheets, and she's begging the Haskellman to move up to the Windy City. While the old man is 3 puttin 16, yours truly tells the ever so grateful Maria that no one woman can ever capture and hold the Edmeister but does make arrangements to meet up in Chicago a couple of months later for round two.

So unfortunately, your theory is incorrect. I was not in DC doing the Congressman but rather in Lincoln Park doing Maria.

so that means that despite the endless hard work done by planned parenthood, enough democrats still aren't getting abortions.....

Wease! We finally agree on something!!! This county needs more abortions!

As for that poll, this is rather suspicious. 20 percent I could see... 42 is ridiculous. My guess is that by "let it happen" people are saying he was irresponsible by ignoring intelligence pre-9/11, or something along those lines. While I personally wouldn't agree with that, either, it would seem less moonbatish than thinking he actually had something to do with it occuring.

Boycott the airport? That's gotta be one of the worst ideas since the "don't buy gas for 1 day" one. ....Maybe if you are in a city with 2 big airports you could possibly avoid one, but how is someone in Minneapolis going to be able to boycott the only big airport?

TRUE liberals in the Cities only fly out of the Hubert Humphrey Terminal...not the Lindbergh one, more often thought of as MSP...

Well no wonder. Sounds like the Linbergh one is full of neocon deviants.

Your game is weak per usual. (insert yawn here)

Trust me, Maria doesn't dig weak and would launch you and your self entertaining lameness in a second. She's very results oriented and your definitely not the results type. More of the "after the fact now look at me the witty monkey on the internet" type.

On another note....

Too bad you couldn't make the outing and actually introduce yourself to me and Maria. Next to me, she almost seems quiet. But, as they say, Maria "grew up on the other side of the tracks". Watching her break a bottle over your melon would make a good picture for the forum. Give you something to do after the fact as well.

Maybe next time weak game huh?

Was that your girl? Oh man, I'm sorry. I had no idea. She just seemed lonely sitting at the bar all by herself. Didn't mean to cause any friction between you two.

As far as "launching" goes, we already took care of that in room 312. By the way, next to you, an air raid siren would seem quiet.

I don't see why you are in such dire need to meet me with the lovely Maria. It would just give her one more reason to dump your sorry ass after I pummel you into the ground.

Being beaten intellectually, emotionally and physically is no way to go through life, IO.
