Above the Clouds....
Gravel is sold by the ton not by the yard as is cement. Sold by weight not volume or space it takes up. A ton of gravel does not take up alot of space, you'll be surprised. Gravel is now going for about $7.25 a ton around here.

I'm figuring 5.56 cu yds,
converted to 7.5 tons of gravel... now that is assuming 100 pounds per sq ft of gravel.

A cubic foot of dry, loose gravel with 1/4" to 2" stones weighs approximately 105 pounds per cubic foot. So, a cubic yard is that times 27, or 2835 lbs. (There are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard). The measurements you provided for the cavity that you want to fill calculate to 5.56 cubic yards as Ripken pointed out so you would need approximately 7.89 tons of gravel. The national average price for fill gravel is around $6.75 per ton.

Vinnie, always trying to one up someone on gravel questions! :mj07:

Buddy,
Would'nt it be easier to just put him in a pail of cement and take him down to the river?
