I wonder what it is that makes someone want to sneak into the woods and murder an innocent animal?
Has to be some sort of inadequacy thing there?
Like any of you guys do it because you are 'thinning the herds'. LOL! At least be honest about it. Kill em, and hang em on the wall. :142smilie
Ok, I was going to stay out but I have seen enough now. I understand it is your personal choice not to hunt and that you choose to go organic or whatever you do now.
HOWEVER there is no need to attack people that choose to hunt. If you want to attack the guy that is attacking 3 seconds go ahead, but to generalize that people hunt because they have 'some sort of inadequacy thing' is ignorant. I will admit that I don't hunt specifically for 'thinning the herds', but i don't hunt to 'kill em, and hang em on the wall.' I was taught at a very young age that I ate whatever I shot, and we did just that. Deer venison is very good eating, lean, and an alternative to beef. If all we did was shoot them and put them on the wall, then why do I not have one deer on the wall? Why don't we mount the does?
Do I agree with people that just trophy hunt, that have game fenced land with protein feed deer that are so tame they basically will eat out of your hand? Hell no. But hunting can be a sport and people should be allowed to be proud if they bag a trophy the right way. I dont consider sitting in a deer blind watching a feeder a sport. No, every deer I have shot has either been in a tree stand I set up in an open field where I have observed them traveling, or walking valleys and trying to stalk them. It takes a lot more than you may understand to get a deer this way, as there are many elements that you must prepare for and some that you cannot. You can't be seen, heard or smelled or the hunt is over. Btw, I bow hunt now which is even harder than doing the same with a rifle when I was younger. In order to get within 40yards of any wild animal is a sport within itself.
Next, while my objective my not be to 'thin herds', that is a result of my actions. Every day you can drive roads from where I am from in Central Texas and see deer that were hit by cars. Yes we are in their habitat, but they really are overpopulated in that area *population fluctuates due to things like droughts, ants, mountain lions, etc. At night if I took you on a 20minute drive, we would see at least 10 deer along the road or along people's fence-line.
Have you drove by a milk farm or beef farm? Do you know how they make Kobi beef? I am just saying...
And as far as a bonding experience, it is what you make it. Some people bond sitting in church, some bond on the golf course, and some bond sitting around their camps talking about their hunts and their strategy for the next outting. I can only say from personal experience that I find it pretty cool to go out in the wild with your dad and bro with no cell phones and no tvs, and sit in front of a camp fire and bs about anything in front of every star in the sky. Now that I live in the city I miss it more.
I think there is a lot more to hunting than you may think, and you may have a skewed view due to many of the piss poor hunters that give the rest bad reps. You choose not to hunt, so be it, but dont insult those that do. Even if you fully understand it, critizing others for doing it is not the answer. Maybe for you it is, but hey maybe I should tell you that you make up for your 'inadequacy' in an activity that I don't agree with. Just saying...
