I'll be heading over to Scotland for 1 week next week. Anyone ever been there before? I am going there alone ( I need a vacation) and wanted to get away from friends et al, so I chose a place that I always wanted to visit. I'll definitely be hitting Glasgow and the west coast of scotland as I want to see those ancient castles and the coast side.

Thanks

My nephew lived there going to school for a few years. I just emailed him , I will let you know what he says.

I remember him telling me alot of drinking and that everyone in the country smoked cigs.

Glasgow is OK, but Edinburgh is really the must-see city over there.

...And good luck understanding anything anyone says. Supposedly they are speaking English, but I'm not convinced.

I agree - spent over a month in Europe last year and Edinburgh was my favorite city. We rented a car and drove from London to a small town in Scotland to Edinburgh...it was really beautiful - exactly what you might imagine - sheep, rolling green pastures, old stone walls, lakes. It is funny how the accent changes as you slowly progress northward. And driving on the left side of the road sure made for some adventure (you can imagine with dad driving and four women in the car yelling at him, lol!!)

The pubs are great and the people are very friendly. If you end up going to Edinburgh I can tell you some nice places to go...my dad studied there for his masters years ago and took us on some great walks.

Safe travels and cheerio!

Been to Edinburgh as an unplanned 3 day side-trip during a 2 week visit to London, Brussels and Amsterdam:weed:. There is a a large castle overlooking the city. Like you, I went by myself. I stayed in New Town, but I had an excellent time hanging out in old town. It was during world cup. The various pubs on High street provided an excellent atmosphere to watch world cup football matches. The USA played well in that Cup, beating Mexico before being ousted by Germany.

I met some students at a pub. They brought me to a private club where I drank absynthe:00hour :00hour.

I didn't make it to Glasgow or the west coast, but have been saying since I got back that I'll return soon to visit all of Scotland and Ireland. If I dig up any potentially helpful links, I'll post 'em for you.

Have fun and more importantly avoid Haggis at all cost:SIB

hmmm i did spend a few days in scotland... tell him to pack his rain gear! i went to glasgow, and edinburgh... edinburgh has a cool castle to tour, and there are day trips, i went to loch ness and you get to see a ton of the country side... there are also bus tours that tour the citys for like 20$ and i recommend doing that.. it's alot less and they show you alot of the stuff that you'd wnat to see anyway.
..........................................................

That is what he said Dr.

I wonder if anyone else would confirm the rain
gear . :SIB

What ever you do leave your golf clubs at home.
A friend I work with went there for a golf trip. The
whole works, Scottish dress. Yes I mean a kilt. Any
way one of the four players he went with was lucky enough to get a hole in one. That's the good news. The bad news is it cost him $900.00
in the club house bar after words!
