I went to the story earlier and wanted to eat some slow cooked chicken. I usually dont use bbq sauce but I decided to buy some "Sweet Baby Ray's hickory and brown sugar"

I put the bbq sauce on half the chicken and o my!
I wish I would have put it on all of them!

It was scrumptious!

I might eat half the bottle later by its self
I'm gonna end up lookin like this

I thought it was some back door, low dollar hidden gem that we found at Wal-Mart one day.

Then a few weeks ago I saw that they had a car sponsorship in the Busch Series.

And I agree. For an off-the-shelf sauce, it is fantastic stuff!

Sweet Baby Rays is full of HFCS (it's the first ingredient listed) and all kinds of bad stuff...

try Dinosaur brand, it is real good and insteadof 70 calories per 2 tbs it only has 25...If you want a spicier version the best sauce is their Wango Tango...it is great on chicken right out of the bottle and ribs...use it as a condiment instead of ketchup...

I had to start eating better and even though I use to use Sweet Rays...if I had known about Dinosaur brand i would have used it over the Rays...

Damnit, Dr. Feelgood! Ignorance was bliss on that one. I guarantee we won't have another bottle of that stuff in our house now. i can't believe this slipped past my wife in the first place.

Is Dinosaur brand available everywhere?

Dawg,

I get mine at Hannafords, Shaw's and Stop and Shop which are all big name supermarkets in my area. I first saw it at a specialty meat shop about 5 years ago. It costs about 4 bucks a bottle but goes a long way especially the spicier Wango Tango sauce..

It looks like it came from a restaurant in New York that began marketing their slatherin sauces...

here are some links...

mo money...(I am absoluely bored as you can see)

here ya go...

Gates & Son's KC BBQ Sauce

This from the restaurant in KC. I got the recipe when Mr Gates was on Martha Stewart.

3 quarts 5 min

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup salt
2 tablespoons celery seeds
2 tablespoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons ground red pepper
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 quarts ketchup
2 cups apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke
1 teaspoon lemon juice

In a small bowl, mix together sugar, salt, celery seed, cumin, red pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder.
Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients.
Add dry ingredients, and mix well.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
Sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 weeks or in freezer for up to 6 months.
