I've seen previews for this flick for a few months now and it looks like it's a Godzilla remake. Anyone know if it is?

Looks intense but I can't figure out if that's Godzilla rumbling.

Thanks.

BTW, l will try to avoid posting "nole" at the end of my threads. It's obviously me but, I'd like to think, it's a bit more personal knowing that "nole" is signing off.

Thanks.

"the bunker"
the trailer looked interesting...i don`t know wth`s going on...

heres some general info.....

Is it Godzilla?
NO! JJ Abrahms has said that he wanted to do something new. So no this is not a TOHO or Godzilla film.

Is the mutated whale picture real?
It has been stated that it was early production fan/concept art so nobody is really sure, but it seems unlikely.

What is the monster?
Nobody knows for sure, but J.J. Abrams has said it is an original creation.

Is it true that the concept of the monster is Manhattan Island?
Listen to yourself...... And what would be the point on wasting all that money on websites and videos?

sneak peek early screen, 10 January 2008

I attended an early screening 1/10/08 at Michigan State University. I've spoilerized in case anyone doesn't want to know anything about the film, but I will try to stay away from anything that'll be too overt.

Simply put, the film is an amazingly visceral experience. It's studio logo, production logo, film. No credits whatsoever, which just adds to the overall immediacy of it. If you've been following it to any degree whatsoever, you know that it's shot entirely with hand-held cameras. The characters also run. A lot. So immediately, I think this will be a love hate experience. My own reaction to it was that it again, added to the immersion, and I didn't find it to be really distracting at all. Many people I saw it with said they couldn't even watch the screen at times, so buyer beware. It also will anger those who need all the details, and need to have every loose end tied up (or even a majority of them). The entire film is the tape found after the events of the film are over. That's it. There is no set up, and no hold-your-hand-for-you resolution (or really, much of one at all). It's unconventional, and I enjoyed the ending TREMENDOUSLY. I definitely have to applaud the decision to not simply make a cookie cutter action film that is easy to watch. I think it will be interesting to watch how it does at the box office though.

After that...I feel like there isn't much that can be said about the acting, and that should be a credit to it. It absolutely feels like you are experiencing this with the characters, who feel more or less exactly like real people. After leaving the theater I was on edge for a good deal of time, as I tried to shake that level of immersion. The film is also surprisingly humorous, and I would say that our crowd laughed more than they screamed (although the screams were definitely there).

Cloverfield definitely will not be everybody's cup of tea, but if you're already excited about it, I have no doubt that you'll be satisfied. It was a relatively unique experience, and again I want to applaud the decision to make it in that manner.

Definitely recommended: 8/10

hope this helps....i think i may actually go see this...sounds like something different...

Has 'Cloverfield' Jumped the Shark?
Nope! Buzz on the Upcoming Movie Stays Strong
By Mike Krumboltz

The moment the first "Cloverfield" trailer hit theaters, buzz on the film roared to life. But that was months ago, and searchers are a fickle sort. Is the flick, which opens next week, still making noise in Search?

In a word, absolutely. Some folks (us included) thought "Cloverfield" might suffer from "Snakes on a Plane" fatigue due to too much pre-release hype. Just the opposite is true. Fans have continued to search on the J.J. Abrams film with increasing intensity. "Cloverfield" is among our top 500 terms and related searches on "cloverfield spoilers," "cloverfield clues," and "what is cloverfield" are also scaring up monster-sized numbers.

Those searches serve as a testament to the film's ability to keep fans caring... and guessing. So far, all we know of the plot is that a creature that has little respect for the Statue of Liberty goes wild in the Big Apple. Judging by the impressive searches, the less we know, the bigger the buzz.

i read that the whole thing is seen through a herky-jerky handheld camera.....kinda like blair witch project(which made me nauseous)........

i doubt i`ll be seeing it....but,look forward to hearing someone`s opinion(someone real...someone other than one of these metrosexual,nancy-boy professional reviewers)....

supposed to go this afternoon with a friend I haven't seen in a while. Don't want to because of the herky jerky camera. It's like that the whole movie. Buddy of mine saw it last night and said there was lots of action and it was a good time.

OK, maybe I'm easily entertained but that was a really good movie. Yes, it's Blair Witch meets Godzilla but if the herky-jerky camera bothers you, look away for a few seconds then bounce back.

1st 15 mins or so sets up a few story lines but after that, really good stuff.

Hud character is pretty funny. Monster's not it it as much as you would think but when he is in it, it's cool.

I took my 11 year old. We had a great time. I'm glad to report I have circulation back in my left arm. I thought he was going to squeeze it to death.

I'll be really surprised if someone says it sucked.

BTW, if possible, see it in that DLP surround sound or whatever the Hell they call it. That is the only way to see it. Man, it was loud!

Nole gives it 2 thumbs up!

I just got back from watching the movie and really enjoyed it. I hated the Blair Witch Project because of the camera and because it was boring, this was the total opposite.
The action scenes were done well and you really have to see it at the theater, it will lose something on DVD.

I saw it this Saturday and have mixed reviews. There was a warning sign at the window saying that you could become nauseas due to the camera angles and blah, blah, blah.

It started out really slow. A couple of people walked out of the theater after the first few minutes, not sure if it was due to the camera movements or they just thought it would suck but it gets better after the first 15 minutes and you start getting use to the camera movements after a litle bit. All in all it was a pretty good movie but the end could have been a little different. It kind of left you asking a lot of unanswered questions and people were pretty much laughing when the lights came on, kinda wondering if that was it.
