Where it is real F ing COLD
My local man likes to get a little bit drunk during the day.. I tried to place my bets at 6 PM central before the games start and he says "Call me back at 6:15 I am busy." So I call at 6:15 and he says all call you back in 5. He calls me back at 6:30 and I am watching games and have my ticker on. I notice the pacers are scoring like mad and the Blue Jays are 3 -1 in bottom of first. I make a list of wagers and then place the same amounts on the overs in the two games I mentioned. He takes them no questions asked. I don't feel one bit guilty about it because he is a prick on the phone when drinking. Would you have done the same??

if your bookie is always drunk and a prick than i would have done the same thing, if he is that stupid to be taking bets a 6:30 when the games already gone off than thats his own problem not yours you should have put a dime on it good for you:142smilie

Yea but this is the same guy who told me an over / under went down from 44 to 42 in St. Louis Rams home game for bad weather. He puts out a sheet on Thursday and got is ass kicked on Saturday and when I put a big bet on the under he tells me that BS. He has it coming. I stay with him because he gives me kick backs or a little juice on some of the guys who go through me.

A couple of interesting things that I remember happening with the Ontario Lottery Gaming Commission (OLGC) and their sports lotteries:

a) about 15 (plus or minus) years ago they posted a soccer game and didn't take it off the board even after the final was in. Lots of people took advantage of the situation. The OLGC honored those bets.

b) about 8 (same) years ago they listed an NCAA game with a 20-plus point favourite with the numbers reversed--not only could you pointspread the +20-something points for a 20-something favourite but you could also play a "moneyline" (need to win by 6 on baskets, I think) that played a clear 5-to-1. 5-to-1 to win by 6 for a 20-something point favorite. I remember this latter one well as I had spotted it and did up a whack of tickets to take advantage. When I hit the store I was told the game was off-the-board. They did have a surge in action and so took it off. The fave won by 30-something. The OLGC honored those bets.

That being said, I imagine that the on-line way that I play now means that a mistake such as those mentioned would NOT be honored, in all likelihood. On-lines have the ability to monitor any (rare) mistakes so anybody making a bet on an event already under way must realize that they are in danger of it being voided/pushed. My guess is that Vegas might honor such mistakes but they must be super-rare.

I wouldn't knowingly scam someone who was playing fair with me. Doesn't sound like this guy is. Sounds like you need an account if you can pull it off--keep you from playing on credit also. If you feel inclined to take advantage then you obviously have some animosity. Get a different book. Trust is a two-way street.

I have an interesting one also

I have an interesting one also

I was just out of college for about a year or two, and me and my girlfriend went down to St. Maarten for a week vacation.

I stopped in a local sportsbook (it was called the Lightning Casino back then) and placed a few sports bets. While I was looking at the board, I saw the line on the Iowa/Northwestern game. This was back when Iowa was pretty good and Northwestern was, well still is, pretty bad. The game was in Iowa, and the board showed the line to be Northwestern favored by 13.

I talked to the sports book manager and said "are you sure about that line - it looks backward to me". He said, "Absolutely - we get our lines from Vegas".

Well, back then there was no internet so I thought something was fishy and I had to find out. I drove to the other side of the Island to buy a USA Today (the only place I could have gotten lines that I know of - AND it cost me $2.50 for that damn paper).

I wanted to see the paper - maybe a bunch of guys got suspended from Iowa or something. The line just didn't make sense. As I looked it up, good 'ole Danny Sheridan had Iowa as a -13 point favorite. Figuring that this was not a coincidence, I went back to the Lightning Casino.

I again asked about the Iowa/Northwestern line. Again the Sportsbook manager said "Our line was right'. I showed him the USA today. He still stood firm on his line.

So, at this point, I felt I did all I could to show him his mistake. So I then asked him how much I could bet on the Iowa Hawkeyes. He said $5K on sides was the maximum. I then asked how much I could get off my credit card. He said $3K.

So I went to the Cashier and took a $3K cash advance (they didn't have many hundys so I had a big stack of bills, mostly $20's.).

I went back and played the game for $3,300.

Funny thing is, my girlfirend and I went about our day and I didn't give it a lot of thought. Later on that night, we were in a different casino and Headline news was on (they had a score ticker on the bottom of the screen back then - this was before ESNP2 - the only place was Headline news if you wanted a score ticker, unless you had a pager). The final score ran by, with Iowa winning by 18 - so they even covered the actual spread.

So, what happened when I went back the next day and tried to collect? The SB manager really gave me a hard time - saying I knew the line was wrong and I shouldn't have bet into it. I told him that I clearly pointed out the wrong line to him (even showed him the USA today) and since he refused to change it, I had every right to bet into the game.

He ended up paying me the full amount ($3K + the $3,300 I bet) under the logic that Iowa covered the 13 points anyway. He said he would NOT have paid me if Iowa did not win by at least 13 - he just would have refunded my bet. I'm glad it didn't come to that, cuz we would have had a real problem in that situation.

Anyway, he pleaded with me to give him some action that evening, to let him get some of the $$$ back. I ended up placing 11 $200 bets that night and went 5-6, so he got a very little back.

And I didn't go back to the Lightning again. They paid for our trip and a Movado watch. Thank you Lightning Casino!

Normally I would not try to take advantage of a bad line. But I guess being young and broke, and doing everything I could to prove that they had a bad line, and the casino refusing to change it, I felt I did the right thing by pounding it.

I'm sure some of you will disagree, but I have no regrets.
