has anybody been watching this mini-series on hbo ?

as somebody who enjoys learning about american history i find this is tv at it's best.

what i find truly remarkable about this story is that some of the greatest people who ever lived came together & had the courage to start a country with a new way of governing.

can't wait to watch part 4 tonight.

Hudson Valley area.....NY
AR,I've been watching it also.Great series...Giamatti is really good playing the part.PBS a few yrs back had the Adams Chronicles and that was great.but HBO has a way about doing these mini-series..Probaly one of the most amazing coincidences in US history was the day Adams and Jefferson died. They were best friends, wrote the Declaration, spent time in France,Jefferson became VP under Adams, then defeated him, they became enimies, then as years passed became friends again and wrote each other 100's of letters...then 50 yrs to the day of signing the Declaration July 4th Adams on his deathbed mentioned Jefferson....only Jefferson had died 3 hours earlier..
Looking foward to tonight...

I love American History (and history in general) as well. Have really enjoyed the John Adams mini-series to date. Giamatti has always been a favorite actor of mine.

yeah i always enjoyed giamatti's work as well as laura linney's who plays his wife.

i never realized, until this series that abigaill (sp ?) adams played a very crucial role in adams success. and as a matter of fact i am reading a book about washington & the author of this book calls the adams marriage one of the greatest love stories in american history.

agreed. read 'John Adams' right after it was published, still trying to find the time to get to '1776'. Minored in American History in college; can't get enough of anything about our Founding Fathers and the early days of our Republic.

I don't get HBO, so I'm going to have to wait until this is put onto DVD.

I read 1776 and tried to find John Adams at the library but they didn't have it.

Awesome series. Almost makes up for this "In Treatment" garbage they also have going.

Rented a 3-disc series called "Liberty - The American Revolution" that covered some of this and was very good.

very good series, shows how instrumental Massachusetts & Mr. Adams were in this countries independence. Amazingly how many states (South Carolina, Pennsylvania) had to be heavily persuaded to vote for independence. And only 1 State never did vote for or desire independence, of course New York.

How about the scene of all the slaves building the White House?

There was also a scene a few episodes back when they were trying to get the necessary votes from the delegates to declare Independence. Someone mentions the problem with slavery in those states that had it; someone else says we will deal with it later.

The more things change, the more they stay the same....
