The IRS is depositing checks into wrong accounts and forgetting $300 child refunds.

Usually a missive with an Internal Revenue Service return address is about as welcome as a dusting of poison ivy.

Offer a little stimulus, however, and taxpayers can't wait. So, understandably, initial reports that 15,000 taxpayers would not be getting an IRS love letter sent the Buzz into a tizzy. Fortunately, that number turned out to be much smaller: Only 1,500 checks have been inadvertently wired to the wrong accounts. (Don't even think of keeping it!) Out of 30 million bits of ... um ... stimuli, that's an error rate of just .05%, approximately. At least the IRS didn't toy with taxpayer affections like the agency did back in 2001.

Except there's another small snafu: The IRS also 'fessed up to forgetting to send out 300-dollar child refunds to as many as 350,000 households. Before you ask: The IRS will mail another letter copping to the error, and the checks will follow in July. The upside: The U.S. Post Office must be raking it in from its repeat customer.

My bank account just got stimulated almost 2 dimes. :00hour I don't mind... I'm in the last group of direct deposit stimulus with the last 2 numbers of my ss being in the 90s. I think the stimulus checks start going out next week. Have a friend at work they missed a child refund on, and another who's husband got nothing.

People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year. See the online calculator for an estimate of the amount you will receive.

A small percentage of tax returns will require additional time to process and to compute a stimulus payment amount. For these returns, stimulus payments may not be issued in accordance with the schedule above, even if the tax return was processed by April 15.

I was scheuled to get mine by today and most of my friends that were also scheduled for today that got their check direct deposit as I did got theirs, alas my anticipatory excitement was to no avail. Never got it and probably never will. Didn't know I was suppose to keep that stupid frickin letter they sent me either. Oh well. I don't have much faith in the administration. Hopefully, some nice non-English speaking illegal will get it and use it to buy a gun and some Mentos and rob me of what Uncle Sam didn't get in the first fricken place.
If not then the snafu would seem to lessen in irony, and wouldn't make such great print for my memoirs.:shrug:
