Navy pilot John Sidney McCain III should have never been allowed to graduate from the U.S. Navy flight school. He was a below average student and a lousy pilot. Had his father and grandfather not been famous four star U.S. Navy admirals, McCain III would have never been allowed in the cockpit of a military aircraft.

His father John S. "Junior" McCain was commander of U.S. forces in Europe later becoming commander of American forces in Vietnam while McCain III was being held prisoner of war. McCain III's grandfather John S. McCain, Sr. commanded naval aviation at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945.

During his relative short stunt on flight status, McCain III lost five U.S. Navy aircraft, four in accidents and one in combat.

Robert Timberg, author of The Nightingale's Song, a book about Annapolis graduates and their tours in Vietnam, wrote that McCain "learned to fly at Pensacola, though his performance was below par, at best good enough to get by. He liked flying, but didn't love it."

McCain III lost jet number one in 1958 when he plunged into Corpus Christi Bay while practicing landings. He was knocked unconscious by the impact coming to as the plane settled to the bottom.

McCain's second crash occurred while he was deployed in the Mediterranean. "Flying too low over the Iberian Peninsula," Timberg wrote, "he took out some power lines [reminiscent of the 1998 incident in which a Marine Corps jet sliced through the cables of a gondola at an Italian ski resort, killing 20] which led to a spate of newspaper stories in which he was predictably identified as the son of an admiral."

McCain's third crash three occurred when he was returning from flying a Navy trainer solo to Philadelphia for an Army-Navy football game.

Timberg reported that McCain radioed, "I've got a flameout" and went through standard relight procedures three times before ejecting at one thousand feet. McCain landed on a deserted beach moments before the plane slammed into a clump of trees.

McCain's fourth aircraft loss occurred July 29, 1967, soon after he was assigned to the USS Forrestal as an A-4 Skyhawk pilot. While seated in the cockpit of his aircraft waiting his turn for takeoff, an accidently fired rocket slammed into McCain's plane. He escaped from the burning aircraft, but the explosions that followed killed 134 sailors, destroyed at least 20 aircraft, and threatened to sink the ship.

McCain's fifth loss happened during his 23rd mission over North Vietnam on Oct. 26, 1967, when McCain's A-4 Skyhawk was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. McCain ejected from the plane breaking both arms and a leg in the process and subsequently parachuted into Truc Bach Lake near Hanoi.

After being drug from the lake, a mob gathered around McCain, spit on him, kicked him and stripped him of his clothing. He was bayoneted in his left foot and his shoulder crushed by a rifle butt. He was then transported to the Hoa Lo Prison, also known as the Hanoi Hilton.

After being periodically slapped around for "three or four days" by his captors who wanted military information, McCain called for an officer on his fourth day of captivity. He told the officer, "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital." -U.S. News and World Report, May 14, 1973 article written by former POW John McCain.

"Demands for military information were accompanied by threats to terminate my medical treatment if I [McCain] did not cooperate. Eventually, I gave them my ship's name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant." Page 193-194, Faith of My Fathers by John McCain.

When the communist learned that McCain's father was Admiral John S. McCain, Jr., the soon-to-be commander of all U.S. Forces in the Pacific, he was rushed to Gai Lam military hospital (U.S. government documents), a medical facility normally unavailable for U.S. POWs.

The communist Vietnamese figured, because POW McCain's father was of such high military rank, that he was of royalty or the governing circle. Thereafter the communist bragged that they had captured "the crown prince."

For 23 combat missions (an estimated 20 hours over enemy territory), the U.S. Navy awarded McCain a Silver Star, a Legion of Merit for Valor, a Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Stars, two Commendation medals plus two Purple Hearts and a dozen service medals.

"McCain had roughly 20 hours in combat," explains Bill Bell, a veteran of Vietnam and former chief of the U.S. Office for POW/MIA Affairs -- the first official U.S. representative in Vietnam since the 1973 fall of Saigon. "Since McCain got 28 medals," Bell continues, "that equals out to about a medal-and-a-half for each hour he spent in combat. There were infantry guys -- grunts on the ground -- who had more than 7,000 hours in combat and I can tell you that there were times and situations where I'm sure a prison cell would have looked pretty good to them by comparison. The question really is how many guys got that number of medals for not being shot down."

For years, McCain has been an unchecked master at manipulating an overly friendly and biased news media. The former POW turned Congressman, turned U.S. Senator, has managed to gloss over his failures as a pilot and collaborations with the enemy by exaggerating his military service and lying about his feats of heroism.

McCain has sprouted a halo and wings to become America's POW-hero presidential candidate.

If John McCain were a American airline pilot, flying your plane, would you feel safe knowing he crashed 5 aircraft?

This is funny: "The enemy is anybody who?s going to get you killed, no matter which side he?s on. "
? Joseph Heller

George W. Bush will get you killed.

150+ as Gov. of Texas

9-11, 3,000

Iraq war, 4,071+ soldiers (not counting Iraqis, they're not really people)

Now a job for you--who wrote the article--I can't seem to find anyone willing to be acknowledged as author.

Heres report from wikipedia you may want to compare--

Military service and marriages
John McCain's pre-combat duty began when he was commissioned an ensign, and started two and a half years of training as a naval aviator at Pensacola.[16] There he also earned a reputation as a party man.[6] Graduating from flight school in 1960,[17] he became a naval pilot of attack aircraft. McCain was then stationed in A-1 Skyraider squadrons[18] on the aircraft carriers USS Intrepid and USS Enterprise,[19] in the Caribbean Sea and in the Mediterranean Sea.[20] He survived two airplane crashes and a collision with power lines.[20]

On July 3, 1965 McCain married Carol Shepp, a model originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[12] McCain adopted her two young children Douglas and Andrew.[21][19] He and Carol then had a daughter named Sidney.[22][23]

McCain requested a combat assignment,[24] and in December 1966 was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal flying A-4 Skyhawks.[25][26] McCain's combat duty began when he was 30 years old. In summer 1967, Forrestal was assigned to a bombing campaign during the Vietnam War.[12][27] McCain and his fellow pilots were frustrated by micromanagement from Washington,[28] and he would later write that "In all candor, we thought our civilian commanders were complete idiots who didn?t have the least notion of what it took to win the war."[27]

By then a lieutenant commander, McCain was almost killed on July 29, 1967 when he was at the epicenter of the Forrestal fire. McCain escaped from his burning jet and was trying to help another pilot escape when a bomb exploded;[29] McCain was struck in the legs and chest by fragments.[30] The ensuing fire killed 134 sailors and took 24 hours to control.[31][32] As Forrestal headed for repairs, McCain volunteered for the USS Oriskany.[33]

John McCain's capture and imprisonment began on October 26, 1967. He was flying his twenty-third bombing mission over North Vietnam, when his A-4E Skyhawk was shot down by a missile over Hanoi.[34][35][36][37] McCain fractured both arms and a leg,[38] and then nearly drowned when he parachuted into Truc Bach Lake in Hanoi.[34] After he regained consciousness, a mob attacked him,[39] crushed his shoulder with a rifle butt, and bayoneted him; he was then transported to Hanoi's main Hoa Loa Prison, nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton".[39][40]

McCain (right) with his squadron and T-2 Buckeye trainer in 1965.
McCain being pulled from Truc Bach Lake in Hanoi and becoming a POW[41] on October 26, 1967.
Interview with McCain on April 24, 1973, after his return home.Although McCain was badly wounded, his captors refused to treat his injuries, instead beating and interrogating him to get information.[39] Only when the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a top admiral did they give him medical care[39] and announce his capture. His status as a prisoner of war (POW) made the front pages of New York Times[42] and Washington Post.[43]

McCain spent six weeks in the Hoa Loa hospital, receiving marginal care.[34] Now having lost 50 pounds (23 kg), in a chest cast, and with his hair turned white,[34] McCain was sent to a different camp on the outskirts of Hanoi[44] in December 1967, into a cell with two other Americans who did not expect him to live a week.[45] In March 1968, McCain was put into solitary confinement, where he would remain for two years.[39]

In July 1968, McCain's father was named commander of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater.[2] McCain was immediately offered early release.[34] The North Vietnamese wanted a worldwide propaganda coup by appearing merciful, and also wanted to show other POWs that elites like McCain were willing to be treated preferentially.[39] McCain turned down the offer of repatriation; he would only accept the offer if every man taken in before him was released as well.[46]

In August of 1968, a program of severe torture began on McCain, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery,[39][34] and McCain made an anti-American propaganda "confession".[34] He has always felt that his statement was dishonorable,[47] but as he would later write, "I had learned what we all learned over there: Every man has his breaking point. I had reached mine."[39] His injuries left him permanently incapable of raising his arms above his head.[48] He subsequently received two to three beatings per week because of his continued refusal to sign additional statements.[49] Other American POWs were similarly tortured and maltreated in order to extract "confessions" and propaganda statements,[39] with many enduring even worse treatment than McCain.[50]

McCain refused to meet with various anti-war groups seeking peace in Hanoi, not wanting to give either them or the North Vietnamese a propaganda victory.[39] From late 1969 on, treatment of McCain and some of the other POWs became more tolerable.[39] McCain and other prisoners cheered the B-52-led U.S. "Christmas Bombing" campaign of December 1972 as a forceful measure to push North Vietnam to terms.[39][51]

Altogether, McCain was held as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for five and a half years. He was finally released from captivity on March 14, 1973.[52] McCain's return to the United States reunited him with his wife and family. His wife Carol had suffered her own crippling ordeal during his captivity, due to an automobile accident in December 1969.[53] As a returned POW, McCain became a celebrity of sorts.[54][39][53]

McCain underwent treatment for his injuries, including months of grueling physical therapy,[55] and attended the National War College in Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. during 1973?1974.[53][17] By late 1974 McCain had his flight status reinstated,[53] and in 1976 he became commanding officer of a training squadron stationed in Florida.[53][17][56] He turned around a mediocre unit and won the squadron its first Meritorious Unit Commendation.[55] During this period, the McCains' marriage began to falter;[57] he would later accept blame.[57]

McCain served as the Navy's liaison to the U.S. Senate, beginning in 1977.[58] He would later say it represented "[my] real entry into the world of politics and the beginning of my second career as a public servant".[53] McCain played a key behind-the-scenes role in gaining congressional financing for a new supercarrier against the wishes of the Carter administration.[59][55]

In 1979,[55] McCain met and began a relationship with Cindy Lou Hensley, a teacher from Phoenix, Arizona, the only child of the founder of Hensley & Co.[57] By then McCain's naval career had stalled;[60] it was unlikely he would be promoted further,[55] because he had poor annual physicals and had been given no major sea command.[60]

His wife Carol accepted a divorce in February of 1980,[55] effective in April of 1980.[21] The settlement included two houses, and financial support for her ongoing medical treatments resulting from the 1969 automobile accident; they would remain on good terms.[57] McCain and Hensley were married on May 17, 1980.[12] McCain retired from the Navy on April 1, 1981,[61] as a captain,[62] and headed west to Arizona. His military awards include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, and National Order of Vietnam (Republic of Vietnam).[63][64][65][66]

He got the memo Weasel so obviously he knew there was a chance of an attack. No?

thats the memo that proves he was gonna fly passenger jets into the towers?...and bush knew that?...

wheres the precedent?..how would bush know that?...he saw this stuff (memos)everyday...
if that`s legit(and i have no way of verifying that...could be garbage that comes from some insane leftwing hate site),there are no specifics...

it also said that there were 70 ongoing field investigations ......

how is this different from any other alert we`ve gotten regarding al qaeda?...the alerts that YOU GUYS scoff at on a regular basis EVEN AFTER 9/11...damned if you do,damned if you don`t....it`s pretty slick having it both ways, ain`t it?......

yep,you guys still don`t get it...

it`s not that hard to strike a free and open society when they have the media and the entire democratic party trying to break down your defenses(bringing prisoners to the states from gitmo, trying to gut the surveillance programs, hamstringing rules of engagement)...

and it wasn`t bush`s policies that precipitated the embassy attacks, the cole attack, the 1st wtc bombing...or 9/11(he`d only been in office for what,6/7 months?)....

and based on this memo, the attacks were in response to CLINTON`S missile strikes in afghanistan...

but,i don`t blame clinton,either...except maybe for the fact he wasn`t tough enough..

the broader point is,it`s not bush who is lopping off the heads of schoolgirls in indonesia....it`s not karl rove who is exhorting religious fanatics to explode at wedding parties in jordan..sending children into israel strapped with remote control bombs....bombing in england....genocide in africa...and it`s not not bush's policies that have induced immigrant muslims to riot in france....

i blame the the cold-hearted ruthlessness of a fanatical ideology that intends to wipe our civilization off the map...... it won`t be appeased, and the more you feed it with appeasement, the stronger and bolder it gets.....

did you notice , that since 9/11 there have not been any direct attacks on the u.s.. homeland?

they`ve settled for smaller "hit and run" targets of opportunity.....why?..maybe because they rightly fear what we might do if another attack occurred (and besides, they have guys like yourself and spytheweb and the msm and the left to wage their attacks on the homeland)....

or maybe they`re busy in iraq..

well,we`ll find out in about another 9 months if a democratic president and a filibuster-proof democratic congress can keep this country safe for 7 straight years..

hopefully i`ll be a little more analytical when assessing `bock`s actions/inactions/intentions....but it`ll be tough after putting up with you mo mo`s blaming bush when he does something (anything),when he does nothing. ...blaming him for things that ocurred even before he was president, as well as everything that has happened since....he`s blamed for things he says... and for things he doesn't say....

yep,it`ll be hard...after putting up with moronic, naiive individuals(like yourself) and the quislings who manipulate you(like spytheweb) into simultaneously thinking of bush as this "criminal mastermind"....a genius of evil...who`s also a complete moron who isn't capable of uttering a sentence without making a mess of it.... or that his brain is controlled by the equally evil karl rove.......

my turn at bat is coming...

So what is it my friend? Did they attack because Clinton did nothing or did they attack because Clinton did something? Talk about having it both ways!

As far as no attacks on American soil...why should they? What would they gain? They are aa ready achieved their goal of trying to bancrupt us. They want us fighting over there. They don't really think they will win flying airplanes into buildings. But be assuered that they will pull more attacks to get us to stay. Yes, this is quite a mess BUSH has gotten us into.

i`m not "blaming" clinton for anything...was the first wtc attack HIS fault?....of course not....were clinton`s policies the cause fot the cole or the embassy bombings?...for the murder of a tourist in a wheelchair on a cruise ship?....

of course not...bin laden wants all infidels removed from anything middle eastern.. he wants to take muslims even farther back into the stone age than they already are...

last time i checked, the bin laden`s of the world make foreign policy for no nation states(islamic or western)....they want to establish a retrograde caliphate and their method of doing so is to terrorize and murder anyone who disagrees...

i have no problem with "clinton`s" mindset on saddam hussein...he was as harsh if not even harsher on saddam than bush...given another 4 years,i think it`s possible he may have gone into iraq..

if i have a problem with clinton,it`s that he took too long to realize they`re at war with US....

shockingly enough,if you read many of my posts,i`m not a "mindless" clinton basher...he did some good stuff and some bad stuff...
.
stevie, you guys need to give the "bush displacement disorder" stuff a rest...stick a sock in it...

i understand that the purpose of your displacement is to avoid having to cope with the actual reality.....ithat by using displacement, you`re able to still experience your anger, but it is directed at a less threatening target than the real cause...

i understand it`s scary...but,at some point, bush will be gone...and you`ll have to wake up to the reality that they want to kill you.....and it makes no difference who`s president...

Sponge, no I dont need to take it over for you. First the guy says Clinton did nothing and that is why they attacked. Then he says they attacked because Clinton attack Afaghanastan. Then he says he is not blaming Clinton. Then he says Bush is defending us. Then he claims I have my head in the sand because I call out Bush. To me Weasel doesn't see the damage this attack of Iraq has caused. He doesn't see how it has weakened us. He doesn't understand how terrorists fight. He doesn't understand that we have the strongest, most expensive military machine in the world but we are fighting the war they want us to fight. Now, I will say this, Clinton set everything up for Bush. With the most important thing being the Communications Act which has given the Neocons a green light to in their war against the middle class.

Sure because you want what is right and the truth. I said the same thing about Clinton letting these oil companies merge. It was shameful of him topull that stunt. We want what is right for the country but these Drudge readers and fox news watchers are either to naive or flat out to ignorant to know what the real truth is. If Drudge or Fox came out and said Obama was a martian they would run with it. Look how simpleminded they are writing Hussien Obama. Most still think he is a Muslim:mj07: You can't have change in this country with clowns like this having the same rights as guys who actually know the issues. On another note trust me i have thought long and hard about this communications act. The billions and billions these thieves have pocketed will be going to more of these news stations. And guess what we paid for it out of our tax paying pocket because we have a bunch of numbskulls posing as American citizens

stevie,my friend......i didn`t say clinton did "nothing"....i just said he was a little slow realizing the extent of the threat....the whole country was asleep...and then 9/11 happened...

theres no excuse anymore for us to have our heads in the sand...

and i quoted "spongy`s intelligence memo" that said bin laden wanted to strike washington because of some u.s. bombing raids on bin laden camps in afghanistan...

i didn`t make it up...

btw...stevie....did you ever get another cat?....i just got back from taking our cat to vet...she had a diabetic seizure when she threw up her food after getting her insulin shot...

sugar dropped to 14!......whew....

what an ordeal....not pleasant watching the family pet have a seizure like that...i know you went through hell with your pet.....

some day it`s been...some year....matter of fact, the last few years have sucked on ice...

Weasel, sorry to hear of your cat. I hope things are going better. We did get another cat. A kitten my daughter brought home from New York. He is great! I have not been writing much because we have been going through some tough times with our daughter. She seems to be finally getting things together but it has a been a very tough year on us.I hope things are getting better for you. We may disagree on Bush but I think you are a good guy.
