Any suggestions? Just learning the game and to swing, really enjoying it, any specific set of irons that you'd recommend for a novice?
I see a lot of used clubs on Craigslist.
Me too, and was hoping I could narrow it down. From what I've read/have been told, irons can be geared to do many things, and I am just looking for something that I would be comfortable learning a consistent swing.
before you do anything i would go to a store and hit a few different sets to see what you are comfortable with. i would say this though, i would stay away from "knockoffs" or a cheaper set bc chances are you will play more and more and the better you get the better club you will want. if you go the knockoff route, you'll end up spending a few hundred there and then eventually pay for the better clubs. knockoffs would be for the real hack, the 2muchchalks out there who play a handful of times a year. if you plan on playing once a week or even every two weeks, you'll want the better clubs. as long as you are athletic there is no reason you shouldn't get good clubs.
with that said though, there are good clubs out there for beginner type players that are quality. i would go with the normal name brands.
nike slingshots are one of the most forgiving clubs out there and are solid.
i personally like titleist clubs, pings are always good, taylor mades are up there too.
also, hybrid woods are more and more popular these days, forgiving and easier to hit than some of your longer irons.
2muchchalk should stay away from the golf course for the course's sake. the last time i played with chalk he hit a golf ball backwards, and that was on the 2nd hole. it was a long day for him.
good luck and let me know if you need any further info. also, i'll pbly play with chalk a few times this summer - reluctantly, we should get a foursome together or something. i heard that m. baz. can move the ball around the course a little bit too, a southpaw from what i hear.
