Direct TV or Dish Network?

Ok, the cable company has done wrong by me for the last time, no showed on me twice in one day, fuk sticks... So I have made the decision to switch to dish. Which one should I go with, either one have good deals going on, any problems with either, etc... Any help would be greatly appreciated as I hope to get this changed over in the next week.

P.S. For anyone that cares, my insurance company was very good about the car (guess it helps to be a personal injury attorney) and I got my dream car BMW 325 I this past weekend. :00hour

I have had Direct TV for 4 years and very happy with it.

I know they have a better sports package capability.

Make sure you get the service agreement for about 6 bucks a month. It covers house calls if something goes wrong.

I lose connection only in severe thunderstorms.

When I have called for service , its a pain to wait but they always have showed.

If you decide to go with Directv definately spend the $12 a month for the Sports Package. This will get you The Golf Channel, all the Fox Channels from different cities, NBA Channel, TVG (horses), Versus, ESPU, MSG, NESN and a bunch of NASCAR channels.

Like Scott said, mine will go out if it rains or snows real hard. Probably has been out only about 8 or 9 times in the 6 years.

not to nitpick but you don't need to get the sports package to get the golf channel as I get it and don't have the sports package. I think it's in their total choice package.

Hey c. The Golf Channel is channel 605. The Sports Package for directv is all the 600 channels.

What channel number do you get The Golf Channel?

605 and ch 604 in stunning HD, and I get TVG as well which is 602, but I don't get all the local FSN channels.

Go for DirecTV. imo they have better customer service, and it is easier to deal with them when you move.

You have to get the HD package. It's like 10 bucks a month, but you get close to 100 HD channels. And they keep adding.

I had cable and gave them the boot when Comcast come in our area and raised the rates. So I went with Directv. Well evrytime it rains or is real cloudy it goes out and searches for signal. I have had it 3 months and it has gone out 13 times until it stopped raining or the clouds passed by. It is just plain shit. I get on the phone with them today after a drizzle and now they bring it to my attention that even clouds can cause it loose signal. Directv never said anything about this at the intial setup. I even asked them about how often it goes out prior to the setup and was told that the only time it will go out from weather is if you should go to the basement to take cover.

IF you have kids out of school and have to be in the house from a rain or you don't want to miss any action in a game, THEN DON'T GET DIRECTV. It is the worst crap out there if you have to deal with any weather. I don't want to even think about what it will be like in the winter here in Illinois.

My advice get something else.

we get some pretty foul weather by me.... and by hte looks of it, I am not too far north of you. I dont get anywhere near the disconnnects that it sounds like you get. perhaps there are some loose connections on your dish? or it needs to be recaliberated on the mount?

Had DirecTV through Boston winters for many years at a former house, and it was never a problem with reception. Actually my neighbor's cable went out more often than our DTV.

If you live in a snowy area just get the heating panels for your dish and then sit back, relax, and attempt to catch all the games that are on every sunday.

:scared Correct againMarine, sounds like he had a poor installation and needs to be peaked into the bird or satellite a little better!!! Everyone here has good talks about it and he has bad experiences, I wouldnt count him as the norm!!

Maybe he installed it himself? I know if I did that it would be a disaster. Also if you have lots of tall trees in your yard, you run the risk of some growing into the path of the satellite signal (over years, of course)
