took my wife's car into nissan on june 2nd for a steering problem.

they STILL have the ****ing thing and it's not repaired. it's not drivable because of a steering problem and they claim the part is not available at any dealer in the country and it's not in production either. WTF am I supposed to do? Suppose it's not available for 2 months, 6 months, a year or ever???!!!

yeah, they are paying for a rental but what about *my* car???

the car is 3 years old, nissan maxima with 34,000 miles and 7 year 100K mile warranty.

i think they should give me a new one

or at least take the part off a new one and give me our car back. why should they be allowed to sell new cars with cars needing service sitting on the lot?

christ!

Something sure smells rotten. Why would a part for a 3 year old car no longer be in production? Then again, why would they play games with you if they're on the hook for a rental? What a messed up situation. Have you called Nissan's corporate office and raised holy Hell yet?

yes, reported to them today and she'll have some kind of regional bigshot call me by end of business tomorrow after he investigates the situation.

Jack, what is the part? A close friend of mine is the Parts Director for a huge Nissan dealership here in Houston and I am sure he can give me the lowdown.

joint assembly for the steering.

thanks

the dealer in columbus, that went out of business, could not order from nissan several months before they packed up and left. this was told to me by the service guy at the dealer that has the car and the dealer's have the same last name, Hubler. sounds fishy to me.

My buddy at Mossy Nissan calls bullshit. See if you can get the part number so that he can be sure what you need and he is sure he can get it.

i googled that part number and got this:

Complaint Number: 10225576 Incident Date: April 8, 2008 Date Added to File: April 24, 2008
Description of the Complaint:
Nissan part #480808j000 called the coupling shaft & column locked up on me, causing my steering to go out in my vehicle. Vehicle was not drivable as it was, tried to do a u-turn, steering went and all most hit a building. I was told this part was on back order nation wide and they had no idea when the part would be in. I do have the new part, kept the old part and if you try to move the bottom shaft portion, that should move freely, you have to wrench on it to move the part, it is rusted. If you are driving this vehicle it might go at 21,000 or 50,000 miles, i have 51,000 miles on my vehicle and it went, the shop had a vehicle that matched mine except for mileage 21,000 and the part went out 6 weeks before mine did and that owner was still waiting on the part.

Jack, my buddy at Mossy Nissan says that while there are 837 of these parts on back order around the country, his national locator system shows that numerous Nissan dealerships actually have the part in stock, including four dealerships in Indiana.

His first question was, "Is he calling on some podunk dealership in a small town?" He suggests calling a large dealership maybe in Ft. Wayne and ask them to run the part on their locator or call him directly at (281) 496-2200. His name is Eric Robertson and I gave him yours.

i'll call the guy tomorrow after i hear from corporate headquarters.

i just talked to my dealer and told him what you found and he claims he did the same thing and the dealers will not release the part to other dealers (big demand). he also said he contacted corporate to get them to force the dealers to release the part and they still wouldn't. wtf kind of company is nissan?

this is crazy.

he's talking about some shipment coming in on the 27th and thinks he will get the part 5-7 days after that. so, i guess i'm looking at 3 more weeks if everything goes well.

:wtf:

you`re under warranty and they`re not giving you a loaner?.....

wtf is that all about?...they figure everybody owns multiple cars?...

hard to believe a big company like nissan has this kind of shabby customer service and business practices...

sounds strange that there are so many problems with this particular apparatus...

could a recall be in order?...

yeah, we have a loaner, an 08 pathfinder with all the bells and whistles so i guess no problem since we aren't running up our miles on our vehicle. i just have to find out if this is BS or not. seems like it isn't

we would have been screwed if i didn't get the extended warranty. the regular warranty was 36k/36 months and that's over but i have 7 years 100K and ass is covered.
