if they made any compact cars in diesel, they would all have more mpg than these freak hybrids plus be more dependable plus be able to run half diesel/half used cooking oil without motor alterations. Diesel is the way to go for fuel effeciency.

I want to see how much it costs to do the actual upkeep on all those hybrids. We won't know for two or three years as they put more miles and wear on them. I'm hearing some monster numbers for some of those cars that are very battery dependant.

those hybrids are a joke, imho.

this car http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/automotive_news/4246024.html gets 40 mpg. my brother is driving an old 80s model diesel VW Rabbit and getting 45 mpg. I'm not sure why the American car industry won't use diesel?? It's a better product, and way more fuel effecient.

I have 90,000 miles and owned my Civic Hybrid for over 5 years. No problems whatsoever so far.

Hope that helps.

If you live anywhere it gets cold, diesel becomes a problem as it tends to jell at lower temps. Fine if you have a heated garage or plug in the engine block at night, but what do you do when your car is parked outdoors at work for 8+ hours and the high temp for the day is -5?

good point, but the majority of the population won't have to deal with that. I remember having to warm up my little diesel as a teenager when it was really cold. It would run a few blocks then stall but not die, then run a few more, etc. I only remember that happening twice though.

Thought they fixed that problem with blends. I'll have to ask around.
