Torn rotator, torn labrum, and torn ligimates. Three operations later and its still fuked. Hope you have better luck. Rehab isnt bad just slow and monotonous according to your age/occupation.

If you have seen a doctor I am sure they have done the strenght test, if not hold your arms out in front of you with your thumbs down and have someone push down on your arms. Obviously the hurt one should be weaker, generally the bigger the difference in strength means more injury. Do this thumbs up and down and repeat with arms out to the side. It is were they will start anyway.

apparently mine wasn`t to bad....

hurt it on the bow flex....at first it was pretty debilitating... a normally thoughless movement like reaching out or reaching overhead would cause a clicking sensation and at times sharp pain...made me hitch up...

was listening to a local orthopedic dr. on a radio show and he suggested laying off or cutting back a little and if it continued for a period of months to make an appointment...he said depending on the severity of the injury(short of a tear),some healing could occur....i

in the following 6 months,it has actually healed somewhat on it`s own...i do still use a camphor pain patch and a shoulder harness when working out....

i never completely stopped using it or working out with it...i was just more careful...

one thing the doctor did say was that once the injury reaches a certain level, theres nothing short of surgery that can be done and that these injuries ,in many instances, lead to arthritis and in some cases, shoulder replacement.......

and that scares me..

mine hurt for over a year, sometimes more than others. i started lifting these 15 pound weights while sitting here at the computer and it healed. not sure the weights did the trick but it's all better now. i couldn't reach for hardly anything especially reaching back for something. reaching up for something drew a lot of pain as well but nothing like reaching back. i wouldn't have been able to do that thumbs down test at all on my right arm.

See a good/reputable chiropractor before you do anything. I have had both #1 tear of my meniscus (knee) and rotator issues for a long while. My chiro has been able to help me and now my knee is almost 100% and my shoulder is coming along nicely. Sure beats the alternative of surgery..............:SIB

Had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff that was badly torn and a severed bicipital tendon over two years ago and went through six months of physical therapy. It feels good now but was unable to even lift a ping pong ball at first. Of course mine had to be two seperate operations, just my luck, but all it really did was shorten my throwing motion which I only use during football season at practice anyway so no worries you will be fine. Hell the operation I just had on my hand makes it an even 20 times I have had to be cut open due to various injuries while trying to grow up (mostly hockey related) and all seem to be okay. If they use a perced cocktail to put you under try to stay awake as long as you can. I only made it about a minute and a half, which is pretty long actually, and ..............what a ride:00hour

I just got these therabands (resistance tube) a few weeks ago and they to be helping. I work out pretty good and haven't been able to bench press in nearly 6 months, although I tried 2 weeks ago and still got 225 6 times. I hurt mine doing dips with 2 45 lb plates tied to my waist. Anyways, I have been at the band thing and it seems to be working, few weeks away from full workouts again.....I hope.

thanks to all that replied.

i have not done the strenght test yet, but i am waiting. a little click today on a couple of movements, but not a lot of pain. arms out by sides are fine- it is the front raise that is still a little sore. overall, better today....i have my finger's crossed. shitty thing is that this shouldn't have happened - i used a "spotter that i didn't know and he screwed me at the end of a set.....douche bag. will not use him again. however, i will offer to " spot him" if i get the chance in the future.:sadwave:

i do rotator cuff exercises from time to time, but must be more serious.

Life long swimmer always dealt with rotator cuff issues, rehab/exercises are the key. As Jack said it only takes some light weights with high reps or elastic cords will do the trick. Unfortunately discipline is the key like everything. Just because it's starting to feel better doesn't mean you can stop the daily exercises. That was always my problem at least.

I hurt mine doing dips with 2 45 lb plates tied to my waist. .

:scared

2 plates attached to your waist? Unreal. I use a 50 lb dumbbell when doing dips and its all I can do to get 3 sets of 4-5 dips when using that much weight--and you are doing them with 40 more lbs? You da man, Jr....:D

I tore my right rotator cuff in HS. It was misdiagnosed until my senior year of college baseball...when I was humming pitches around 78mph :mj07: and somebody that knew what they were doing looked at it.

My problem is that the scar tissue pinches when I put my arm up in certain positions. I can pretty much do everything I want to do, so I've never really considered surgery.

Above the Clouds....
Don't know if it was rotator cuff but 2 years ago I couldn't lift my elbow above my shoulder. Got that way from doing high reps with med weight.

Went to the Doc's and he gave me five shots in the shoulder. Ice and rest for the weekend. Haven't had a problem since. GL.

thanks to all that posted. i am going to a family chiropractor soon, but i think that the x-rays will come back negative. the arm feels better after 4 days of no lifting. a trip to six flags a day ago hurt a bit.... overall, i think it was a severe sprain.....
