Played in 10 NLHM tourney on stars.

Signed up and didn't realize Re-buys until 1st break....anyway 2300 players and after 1st break, with rebuys down to 2180 players....

started with 2000 chips, and got up to 14,000 chips by first break, had 1 add-on during break so 18,000 chips after an hour...avg. stack 11,000...

game progresses about another 45 minutes and I have around 14,000.

blinds are 600/800...

table leader ( 54,000 in chips) bets 1000...
folds around to me
I have 4,4...I raise to 2000...(my thoughts were to see if player was pushing around or maybe A-blank)

blinds fold

he calls

flop 8, 5, 5

leader bets 3000 chips (I put him on A, 10 or higher)

I've got two pair, and push all-in with remaining 12,000...

he calls and shows 8,7 offsuit...

blank, blank--I'm out in 1085th...
QUESTIONS:

1. Was this a 'donk' push with "under" pair

2. Should I have considered him with middle to high pair and looking for action with initial 1000 bet, and fold when he bet 3000...

3. Call inital 1000 and see what hits on flop...I wasn't folding 1000 bet with 4,4...

4. Call 3000, now down to 9000, and see what hits on turn and/or river....

5. Should I have check raised to, I don't know....4 or 5000...after initial 1000 bet which may have got player off 8, 7....

It seems he/she was pushing with 8,7 offsuit and caught a good flop....

Thanks for insights.....Still learning the game....and this is a situation I would like to see how some other players would have handled....

with a low pair like that i wouldve limped in instead of making a raise barely higher than his bet.....limp in or bet big to get everyone out, with low pocket pairs imo

i hate small and mid pairs and don't know how to play them.

that said :mj07:

the nit i am, i prolly fold pre flop OR.... go all in there. most likely i fold because he was betting under the gun

your situation, i would have raised him double to see what he does. if he raised me back, i fold.

why go all in for your whole tourney?

I agree. if im going all in i want a better hand than pocket 4's. I need a stronger hand than that. Any raises on the flop, turn, or river and im folding.

thanks for insights....

I agree, I should have pushed pre-flop or FOLD...

I did put him on A blank and he actually had 8, 7 off so he probably would have folded if I go all-in ...then again he has me outchipped almost 5 to 1....so probably should have FOLDED!!!

As you know Lawrence, I respect your game. Having said that, in my opinion you played this hand about as poorly as possible. If you're going to re-raise the chip leader, just pop it all in right there. I would probably just fold, but not every time, depending on my knowledge of that raiser. I don't completely hate smooth calling there pre-flop, but I DO completely hate your min-re raise. When he just smooth called that, I probably would put him on garbage. If he HAD A-10 or better as you thought, I think he is just going to put you all in and see if you want to race. Your all in after the flop isn't horrible, I actually commend you for having enough heart to follow your read there and push, most people would bail.

hey law
i agree with agent ( that was hard to say,if u do raise he has to have a reason to fold, you didnt give us much on the style of chip leader, atc or tight, but either way wouldnt risk tourny
