5 yrs ago today... the now famous 'blackout'

Wasn't there a record number of births 10 months later due to this. I think I remember something about that.
I remember it well, as it started here in NE Ohio. We had just purchased a large quanity of steaks at a big sale at one of our local supermarkets. On the ride home the traffic lights became inoperable and the drive became quite a challenge. We were without power for 2 days but we had a generator that kept the fridge working. Ironically my mother who lives less than two miles away was hardly affected at all.
Officially, as I recall, they said it all resulted from lack pf proper line maintenance in one of our suburbs but I think that it was B G Falcon who was behind it all.

Vinnie,thanks for finding my original post.... I starting reading this saying " I know I wrote about the blackout..how can I ever forgot...to this day I'm convinced my daughter had something to do with the power surge..lol I think Canada got blamed for it but it was an Ohio problem... I think...
wow,5 years ago...my liittle Becca the 14 yr old will enter her soph yr in college....and she still uses the blow dryer...probaly the same one...thanks again...Vinnie...

Of course my son never hears the message because his hard rock music is blasting "Stairway to heaven" on his headphones.
An hour later I realize we have no power upstairs.When I see the blow dryer next to the AC I figure it out.I go into the basement and reset the fuse box.
So yest when my other daughter turned on the blowdryer I went a little crazy.
"what the hell is happening",stop with the freak'in blow dryers,it's summer,why in the hell do you girls need to blow dry hair"I yelled at the 14 yr old.She's screaming "I'm in the bathroom,the AC is off,stop yelling".
My wife comes over to me and says" maybe the power in the area is out". I said "Hon,what are the odds the power goes off everywhere,just when another kid of mine turns on the freak'in blow dryer". My wife agrees and goes down to the basement to the fuse box.
As my wife is downstairs a neighbor comes knocking at the door and says "box, do you have power".I say no.
About 15 minuts later my son, Led Zeplein walks in and says the whole East Coast is out of power because of lightning hitting Niagara Power and Eletric.My wife is laughing and waiting for an apology.My daughter comes down stairs with"I get blamed for everything in this house".
I say "I'm sorry". But maybe Becca's power surge of the hair dryer caused everything south of us to dark".
It's a strecth....but just maybe.....
We got our power back on at 2.30AM. We all played Uno in candlelite.Went for a long walk.The whole family.It's to bad we don't do enough things together as a family.And of couse everywhere we walked last nite we saw people all sitting on their front porches.It was nice talking to everyone you've seen but never talk too.And of course my crew told everyone "Dad,thought a blow dryer caused this blackout"
And just maybe it did........we might never know
