Police Say Group Was Counting Cards

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- State police arrested four people at the Mohegan Sun casino after they were caught with a card counting device.

State police say the New York residents were using the device at a baccarat table Saturday to determine the order or cards in the deck before they were dealt.

All four were charged with cheating while lawfully gambling, possession of a cheating device, first-degree larceny and first-degree criminal trespass.

Fifty-year-old Yuan Chen, 45-year-old Dong Zhong, 41-year-old Jim Tong, and 37-year-old Yu Feng were each being held on $10,000 bond and were scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Norwich Superior Court.

Baccarat is my favourite game.........guess it may not be for those guys now huh :142smilie

Anyway.....I know baccarat....and there had to be crooked dealers involved, just can't see how the "device" would work unless dealers were involved. I know back in 1999 at a casino in Australia, there was a big baccarat scam that took just under a million bucks, but there was one crooked dealer involved.

you've never heard of card counting in Bacc?

don't you see all those asian folk sitting around the game all night long with their sheet of paper checking things off and writing things down?

Most of the ones I see do it are writing down what cards come and all that stuff.

Problem is, they can write it down, but they dont know what to do with it once they got it.

I've seen a few good discussions about counting in Bac... mainly the purpose of the count would be to start "predicting" natural nines, and ties. Overall though, most simulators have shown that there is no positive EV in running a count.

I think the only +EV that is worth counting (that I have seen the #'s on) is if you can go 39 striaght hands without a tie, you should start a progressive bet on the tie.

I am not sure what the "cheaters" were doing, but card counting does nothing.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
I wouldn't assume the casino knew what was going on. Many times they just suspicious or nervous and 86 people (in Nevada) or start charging crimes in other places. Just to put a clamp on stuff they don't like.

I read where some riverboat casino caught a woman cashing out a few bucks in a slot machine she wasn't playing (strolling by machine she noticed a few dollars unclaimed in it) and she was backroomed for several hours and charged with stealing the casino's money (casino claim uncashed funds in machine is thiers)

Here's a story about some gamblers being held criminally liable for faulty software in the casino's slot machines.

probablility experts have told me that, theoretically, there should be a system which can beat baccarat, but nobody has found it yet. Some have reserved time on supercomputers to test different ways out.
