9-6 ytd

Last week cashed a huge one on GT ML but had bad luck on the later games.

Have a couple I reallly like this week, starting on wednesday.

UNC ML

I really like UNC even though they were nearly upset by McNeese St. I think Butch really worked them hard with the week off and will have them more than ready to go up to Rutgers. UNC is EXTREMELY young and I think this prime time game will have them riled up and ready to pull of an upset and show everyone why many picked them to challenge for the ACC this year.

McNeese St played the Heels very tough but I think the delay could have had some effect on the Heels.

Officials suspended the game due to lightning with North Carolina leading 14-0 on Foster's short TD catch with 12:03 left in the first half. Both teams headed to the locker room before heavy rain arrived in a delay that lasted 1 hour, 48 minutes. A large chunk of the home crowd didn't return, and halftime was reduced to 5 minutes.

Rutgers really struggled against the balanced attack Fresno St. threw at them and I think UNC has the same good balance.

Lets run down the playmakers on UNCs offense....

Rutgers better know where Brandon Tate is everytime hes on the field. He is a big play threat and will touch the ball at KR, PR, WR, and will even get a hand off or two on a reverse. Last year he had a 19.2 YPC average on just 25 receptions. This year hes off to much of the same with a 23.4 YPC average through one game. He also averages about 25 yards on KR and 10 yards on PR and has the ability to break it for a score every time he has it.

Hakeem Nicks is a great compliment to Tate as he is also a spectacular WR. He returns as the leading receiver last year hauling in 74 passes for 958 yards and 5 scores. Nicks is also a big play threat and had a very impressive 12.9 yards per catch last year.

TJ Yates will be the one throwing to these two studs. Yates now has a full season under his belt and I think he will improve a great deal this year. It also helps when you have the tremendous talent to work with that Yates does. He was a little careless with the ball last year and usually will throw a pick, but I think Butch has really worked with him and got him on the right track. Rutgers will bring a lot of pressure to try and disrupt Yates, probably around 45% of the game will Rutgers bring some type of blitz, and Yates is going to need to take care of the ball and make good decisions. The line is also going to have to do their part and pick up the blocks.

UNC will really need to establish a run game and that should be doable as Rutgers was very poor defending the run vrs Fresno. If UNC can establish a run, it will help out the pass game so much more.

UNC may be very young but they have tremendous talent. Butch did an awesome job bringing in some very good recruits. He also has them ready to hit the road as well, he has made it clear to his team that this game is a business trip, not going to see the statue of liberty or any other reason, the only reason is to win the game.

Rutgers is no easy task to stop on offense, they have their own tremendous set of WRs and a very experienced and under rated QB in Teel.

I think the Heels D will step up though because Butch had to really lay into them after their performance against McNeese St.

Fresno certainly dosent have the best D in the world and Rutgers struggled to run vrs them. Replacing Ray Rice is going to take time and I think this will be a down year for Rutgers. Both teams really need this win and are very well coached. I think Butch out does Greg in this one and gets the win with his young group. Rutgers certainly has the experience but I think the Heels have the TALENT.

GL Guys, still waiting on a price for the Heels ML, dont see one on my book

The Tar Heels safeties are absolutely the strong point. Goddard is the leader and very good, and Deunta Williams, a converted WR is a very good safety as well. Williams is a Sophomore, and had a tremendous Freshman season. He was the ACC defensive rookie of the year last year and made the Freshman All American team. They also have a very highly regarded young DT in Marvin Austin who was a top recruit in the nation coming out of HS.

Do you really think they can shut down Teel, Britt, and Underwood? Rutgers HAS to win this game... they are gonna come out fired up

UNC has won like 4 road games in 6 years....I am going to go out on a limb and say that a couple of those wins were at Duke. I am too lazy to look that up.

However, I have hard time backing a program with that type of track record.

The Tar Heels have not won a game outside of North Carolina since 2002. In that five-year span they have won only five road games (at East Carolina, Wake Forest, NC State, and Duke twice).

BTW; I work in Davidson :toast:

I would not touch UNC on the moneyline. Sure they might win, but this program is still 2-3 years away from good times. They have been over hyped this year and a lot of people have bought into it. I think we have lost 20 straight games outside of NC.

The OP said he thinks they will have a balanced attacked. Well against McNeese State our OL, which outweighted mcneese's DL by a fair amount, got tossed around. We couldn't establish the run and became one dimensional. If not for 1 player (tate) we would have lost that game. Until Carolina proves they can establish the run (which they haven't been able to do for over a decade) I would not risk my money on them.

Just my 2c

Since Mack Brown left:
- UNC is 5-32 in regular-season games outside the state of NC
- 4 of those wins were non-conference and only 1 ACC game (Clemson '01)
- UNC has lost 20 in a row since beating ASU on 10/5/2002
- no current UNC player has won a game outside the state of NC

I know the Heels have been terrible on the road but I think they turn it around this year. Last year 4 of their 6 road losses were by 7 points or less. Rutgers without Ray Rice is not the same team, and we saw that vrs Fresno St. Fresno St by no means has a shutdown defense, and they were able to put a serious clamp down on Rutgers attack.

I have a lot of faith that UNC can get it done with their young talent, and I can also see why people would be on Rutgers with Teel and his great wide outs.

70% of bettors are on Rutgers -5....If this is a close game which it should be, I think UNC can edge them out.

Air,

enjoy your write up on the game. Do you think the over 46 points is a better play? I think both young team will give up pt on defense. I don't think both team has great defense. So Over 46 pt for me. Also leaning on Rutger ML or parlay with MIN-290 MLB is a good bet..

Thanks GL

I understand a lot of those W/L stats over the last several years. Bunting was a horrible coach, completely ruined a great defense within a couple years and couldn't manage a game to save his life.

I don't think UNC is "back" after just one year under Butch Davis but are headed in the right direction. The offense is loaded with potential and the defense should be somewhat improved although thats not saying much.

Rutgers is not what they were last year but its really early to tell with both teams.

I'm taking UNC +5, perhaps a small play on the ML. Good luck airportis!

Rutgers had two long passes that just missed going for touchdowns early vs. Fresno. They connect and Fresno goes down 14-0, it might have been a different story.

Teel did not play well but his history has to bounce back after a bad performance. I think he finds the going a little easier tonight and the extra days to prepare will help as well.

North Carolina is still a bottom feeder ACC school going on the road. I think that they stick around for awhile but Rutgers pulls away in 2nd half.

I know the Heels have been terrible on the road but I think they turn it around this year.

Good luck with your bet, obviously I'm on your side! I just know that in my past with sports betting on a team being 'due' didn't work out a lot.

Nothing to do with being "due". Butch Davis is 100 times better than Bunting.

I don't mean to bash Bunting so much. The guy is a great guy who loves UNC football, had a lot of discipline, etc. He was also a pretty good recruiter and had a couple big wins as UNC coach. That said, he was a horrible coach and did a horrible job overall. Took the 2nd best defense in the nation and pretty much turned them into the worst defense in the nation within about 3-4 years.

Horrible game management and playcalling. I love having Butch Davis here!
