Sirius NFL Radio reports that the NFL is expected to announce at 4:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday plans for Sunday?s game between the Ravens and Texans in Houston.
Though the hurricane is expected to arrive on Saturday morning, the question becomes whether it will be feasible to play a football game at Reliant Stadium in the aftermath of the storm.
Possibilities include moving the game to Sunday night or Monday night. The game also could be moved to Monday night in another city. (Several years ago, the Chargers hosted in Arizona a game moved due to wild fires.)
A reader has offered up an intriguing alternative that could have some merit. Week Two could be declared the Ravens? and Texans? bye week, and they could play on November 9 in Houston, when the Ravens are scheduled to have their bye.
The problem is that the Texans currently are slated to host the Bengals that day. But since the Bengals and Texans have a bye set for October 26, the Bengals-Texans game could be moved to the currently-scheduled open date. In turn, the Bengals? bye would become November 9.
It?s hardly ideal, and Ravens and Texans players likely wouldn?t be happy to have to take their in-season break at a time when they otherwise have been preparing to play a game. But if things get so bad in Houston that they can?t play a game in Reliant Stadium by Monday night, shuffling some future dates around could be the best way to avoid having to move the game to another city.
