Growing 'tent cities' blamed on foreclosure crisis

I wonder what it's like on Hawaii now. Few years ago (see pics below) tent cities were getting huge due to recently sharp rising housing costs (and living in tent there not as bad as Reno). I remember reading how many homeless working families were helped into shaky mortgages to get them in a house...

Buddy, why is the Dude smoking cigarettes if he doesn't have a place to live, a box of crackers would be a better choice. JMO.

the guy could have bummed that cigarette.
He could have bought it for a buck after working for 3 hours to buy the cigarette.
You are jumping to conclusions that the man is worthless and not making good finincial decisions.
Hell maybe buying a cigarette to smoke makes the guys day.

I think you are prejudice against the fawking homeless
I remember my time back on ohau.. tent city was a reality there. not like the people living in the tents were dirty nasty bums... they were just people who had regular jobs and chose that "free" lifestyle and wanted to live in a van down by the river... 
there were some bums... but not as many %wise.
That picture though... on the west side of the island... there's a highway that runs right along the beach and you can see all the tents and stuff on the west side.
If you turn your head to the east, there are houses galore... and they make tent city look like the ritz! we're talking 8x10 sheet metal leaning up against poles with tar paper taped to it for a roof. The smell of goat and pig sh*t everywhere. Not a place to stop if yer a honkey white boy from the mainland
