Obama likely to keep debate as McCain seeks delay

By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - Barack Obama's campaign says he is inclined to go ahead with Friday's presidential debate, even though rival John McCain is calling for a delay. McCain said Wednesday that he wants to stop all campaigning tomorrow and postpone the debate so they can work together on the financial crisis.

But Obama campaign officials say the senator is inclined to move ahead.

McCain said the Bush administration's plan seemed headed for defeat and a bipartisan solution was urgently needed.

Yea this is really odd. The economy crisis has killed John in the polls.. not sure what their campaign thinking is here.

The people have the right to hear from both of these leaders as to how they will solve this crisis. They absolutely cannot put this off.

How am I supposed to decide who to vote for if I don't see them rise to a challenge in a difficult time and tell me how they plan on fixing this? With billions of dollars of our money on the line, I want to see them say how they are going to take care of us.

I think McCain has made a mistake in putting this off. It would be best to allow Americans to see both of them in the middle of a crisis.

HA, that is funny... McCain's poll numbers are in FREE FALL... and he wants to call a time out? Give me a break.

If McCain can't handle the economic AND do a debate we should all question his ability to handle a crisis while president. What a JOKE!!

McCain the concern citizen now, it is interesting that he would want to cancelled a scheduled debate that he himself requested. How long does he proposed the suspension of the campaign...5 weeks? That would be great for him because during that time it also eliminate anyone interested in getting to know his VP pick and she can squeek untouched and unchallanged. If this is not a Bush tactic I dont know what....Do as I say and dont question me and if you do opposite we will bury you alive. Question is would McCain support this initiative if Obama would have purposed it?

I hope people are really looking at what's going on. The debate is for the public to see instead of rhetoric in campaign material. McCain knows full well that he's not ready to state his case for the country.

We are not stupid sir.

I believe the debate should go on. I agree with Obama that a statement should be individually submitted with their plans, ideas and/or suggestions to contribute a solution to the financial market crisis.

Let?s see, we have 97 other Senators, 435 Representatives, a President (regardless of what you think of him) and 2 real experts.

The financial press is reporting the start of an emerging consensus.

And McCain is going to do what exactly?

This is a political stunt.

i don't know about this one.

1. Neither Obame or McCain really matter in this situation right now
2. I don't mind a delay in a debate to handle the situation
3. I hate how everything is spun these days. No move can be made without the other side nitpicking it to no end

I absolutely HATE our political structure. I really wish our citizens would wake up and vote independent.

Wonder what got O's panties in a wad--IF I remember he agreed to town hall meetings any place any time--then backed out like sand crab after Mac torched him in their 1st head to head.

Thats the whole problem with our political system. Its a dictatorship with only 2 partys that have a chance. The good old boys from both partys decide who will have a chance to be President.

Its sad really. I am thinking it may even be impossible to change at this time.

We truly need a third party on the same playing field. With the same campaign money available, chosen by the people.

America is stuck in a lobby laden system with no way out. Too much money and power for too many years.

I am not even sure that Obama can deal with it.

And I know that McCain is entrenched like a mofo.

Yeh Mac skipped Letterman who has been blistering his ass night after night.

SNL not helping Palin / McCain

Obama is smart. He should not have agreed to stupid town hall meetings. McCain strength if he has any at all left.

But its pretty obvious Palin/ McCain do not want to appear before the nation when Bush is about to embarress the Repubs once again.

Mac - Listen Obama lets suspend the campaign for five weeks. Join together and go in and get something done about the economy , and if it fails then not just me and Bush will look like stupid losers .

Obama - Yeh OK big Mac :142smilie :142smilie

Face the music DTB

It may be over now.

the other day harry reid publically said that mccain was needed to help push the republicans to side with the bill...now today i heard that reid called mccain up on the phone & read him a message that said that he wasn't needed.....does anybody have any odds on if old harry received a phone call from obama's people urging him to change his position on mccain....

So Paulson said today Obama had touched base with him three times in last four days. Offered to play what ever part he could. Senator Dodd said same thing. He told Obama Presidential politics might be good to keep out of the committies work. Interesting point was both said they had heard nothing from Mc Cain till today and all of a sudden he's got to get in middle. If old John can not handle two things at once he can't handle job he wants.

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Walmart Greeter..

Walmart Greeter..

McCain looks like the congenial old guy handing out carts at Walmart

He does not want to debate Obama, as he knows he is hopelessly outclassed.

This is a total cop-out.

The Palin pick shows the depths of the Republican lost cause..... good grief, is anybody better off today than they were 8 years ago?

Just tie this Old Bozo to the past inept regime and move on.

"the bunker"
dead money quote on a potential biden-obama debate/

it has the potential of being a half way intelligent political and idealogical debate,

:mj07:

joe biden quote/

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened,'" Barack Obama's running mate recently told the "CBS Evening News."

the problem is,herbert hoover was president during the crash...(october 1929)....

and btw...there was no television at the time...that came about a decade later...

:rimshot

/conservatives love joe biden..:grins:
