There's that bogus statistic again. What blog/tv show/radio personality you folks listening to is this coming from? And don't pay any more attention so such careless and inaccurate sources..

Latest figures I could find show top 1% have 33.4% of US wealth--which, incidentally, fell from a high decade earlier of 34.6%. (Look at table 5 here, warning pdf)

FINE - so 1% has 33.4% The next 1% probably has the next 16.6%. The point is not the exact figure, but simply point out that the disproportion goes beyond what hard work would cause.;)

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
it's about the next 9% that have the remaining 16% to make it even 50.

Hard work, luck and other factors...doesn't matter much, really. Any socialistic scheme one can come up with to redistribute it is more arbitrary and unfair than the methods those folks used to obtain those 1% results. (the book to read is second volume in Hayek's "Law, Legislation and Liberty", entitled "The Mirage of Social Justice")

not sure about the 1%, they are probably so well off, most them just inherited into it (off someones hard work and luck in past)

economists study the income quintiles (20% groups, not much the 1%), and there has always been a lot of movement up, and some down these five income groups. I recall a series of posts I did about this while back.

someone asked weasel earlier how many times he's been attacked or someone's tried to kill him.

i got a related question - how many times has weasel gotten his ass kicked for mouthing off?

i`ve got a big hole and a tear in one retina....and a smaller hole in the other....the wages of a misspent youth...

so i try and stay out of bar fights at this point.......

I'm familiar with Hayek, but I am more of a Keynesian. ...I think what seems to work best is to go back and forth between the two, depending on what is needed. In the 30's, we needed a switch to Keynes. In the 70's, we needed a switch to Hayek. We probably need to get more Keynesian type regulations again for a spell. No setup seems to be effective for more than a generation at a time.

The important thing is for people to have perspective. Just because a person thinks the govt should tweek something, doesn't make them a socialist. Capitalism needs tweeking ...constantly.

all I can say is... I will switch places with the millionaires and not complain one bit about taxes.

Most of them are pretty much placed in their position. Sure... some of the actually work for it, but lets face it. You have to get lucky.

and if you don't agree with me... you are wrong

i have no problem with a flat tax. If i make a hundred dollars and its 15 percent and a guy makes a million and his his also 15 percent im fine with that but im sure you Republicans would think this is unfair because he is paying more then me.

actually that's the smartest thing you said...however your ending is totally backwards becasue those that make 100 dollars pay little in taxes while those that make a million pay close to 40% taxes.....yet the guy making 100 dollars and the presential candidate he's voting for think it's unfair that the guy making a million dollars isnt paying MORE.

point out the countries in which socialism has worked.....show me where these failed ideologies have led to anything other than disaster...

you can`t strip people of their incentive to work and achieve and expect anything other than sloth and gridlock..

socialism has been a miserable failure everywhere, so of course the leftists love it.....it sounds so sweet and lovable after all, kind of like puppies and rainbows.....

argument quickly to follow,"the idea is never wrong,it`s just the execution of the idea"....

/yeah right:rolleyes:

weasel, you really think if everyone in the world was a right winger like you, things would be better? I mean you don't think any left-of-center thought has been helpful to society at all? I'm not arguing for communism or far left doctrine, but I find it odd taht you don't think any progressive or liberal thought is beneficial at all.

i`m a conservative.....if that makes me a right winger,o.k.,i`m a right winger...i believe in calling a spade a spade...

but,i try and learn from history...and i`m no fan of creeping socialism...it`s a disaster...has always been a disaster...

what`s being espoused on this board and by obama are the basic tenets of communism...if anybody`s taken a gander at the communist manifesto,it`s all there..

these ideas have been translated, retranslated, rehashed and regurgitated in various forms by academia, the entertainment community, and news media for decades...

all these young libs on this board believe that they and "the one"just arrived at all these socialist ideas all on their own because they`re so clever...but they`ve been brainwashed with it all their lives and don`t even know it....

this country,in it`s relatively short history, has been, without a doubt, the greatest thing to come down the pike in terms of quality of life, economy, military strength,freedom....opportunity...

in history...period...

have there been large bumps in the road?...of course...

has this country`s prosperity come because of gov`t ownership of private industry?....redistribution of wealth?...

of course not...

what`s the thought process?.... "with alll of the examples in the world of prosperous, unoppressive, humanitarian communist regimes , it's hard not to see how terriffic it could be here in the united states"?.......

"we've been held captive by the shackles of that deplorable constitution for far too long"?....

this crap can only work if people become mindless soulless drones....it`s collectivism....and it inevitably ends up running up against the human instinct of individuality.....

it`s humanity vs the beehive.....

you`re trying to coerce me into making arguments for liberalism and collectivism?....thats not what i believe in....

i`m trying to explain where i stand and why i stand there.....

you want to change a system that`s worked so well?...for a system that`s failed time after time?...

i don`t...

Collectivism, Communism, Socialism.....

Wtf is wrong with you?

Settle down. Nothing could be worse than the last 8 years.

Nobody is trying to 'change the system' of capitalism. A few tweaks here and there just *might* be in order. And maybe an injection of a modicum of sanity.

Everything will be ok, but I think we agree that we'll miss Wayne when he moves to communist China.

We'll be down to you, keeko and skullfuk. Quite the trio.

in case they need to see to believe--video of you remark
http://www.breitbart.tv/html/195153.html

What am I doing:scared

I probably just got him more votes :)

I am just amazed at the gall of this cat.

What we have here is a regular Robin-Obama-Hood.

So, while I work my ass off all day and bring home hard earned money - I have to give more money in taxes to people who don't work. Isn't that called welfare - communist state of affairs isn't it ?

So, while I work - Latayo sits home with her four kids and eating chicken wings all day collecting my tax check with no intention of improving her way of life.

How much money do we give to them where they are satisfied ?

It's human nature to want more if it's free.

What a joke.

I don't know how they made Clinton's higher taxes for those over 500 grand work. But with Clinton taxes the rich did very well. I to wish we just went to the fair tax system Forbes has offerd.

That is what a lot of these brain dead neo-con thinkers never realize DJ. I would rather pay taxes with my store full of customers then pay low taxes yet have to beg for customers. That is how it worked in the Clinton years. It is nice to see rich people squirm a little. It is also pathetic to see broke dicks squirming for these rich people to.:mj07:
