Money over competition again, anyone think this is wrong?

The corporate greedy pigs that are the NFL have done it again. Choosing money and ratings over level competition. Although the Jets have virtually played themselves out of the playoffs, they do have a limited chance to get in. They would need the Patriots to lose at Buffalo, and win at home against Miami. Both games were scheduled at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Obviously the Jets would give their best effort because New England would be playing simultaneously.

The NFL already had a marquee game with playoff implications scheduled at 4 p.m., Denver at San Diego. Here is where they get greedy. Not satisfied with the scheduled 8 p.m. game, they switch Denver @San Diego to 8 p.m. then switch Miami at jets to 4 p.m. This way the corporate whores can manipulate the highest ratings in each time slot.
Only problem is if New England wins at Buffalo at 1 o'clock, what effort will the Jets provide at 4 o'clock? Effectively they will know at kickoff if they still have a chance of making the playoffs. By "flexing" the Miami @jets game to 4 o'clock NFL has definitely altered fair competition in favor of ratings and money.

ya, apparently, whatever that has to do with it. Btw,the effort I'm speaking of would be similar to that pathetic effort your boys gave yesterday. But then again they are already in the playoffs .

Actually its quite logical.

That is the nature of a FLEX schedule games get moved. Nothing is set in stone. Would you be upset if the Pats were in Miami's shoes???

NBC has the right to chose the best game as part of their contract. Hands down that game is Denver/SD since it is essentially a playoff game. Winner IN, Loser OUT. Nothing else effects it.

Since it was a CBS game moved from its national 4 slot, the options were obviously limited to AFC games for CBS from the 1's.

Miami/NYJ is the best game w/ direct playoff implications, plus it is a rating getter as you said.

Balt/Jax, Pitt/Cleve, NE/Buf, Tenn/Indy were the only other options.

do you think a team effectively eliminated from the playoffs would play the same as one fighting to get a playoff birth? If you do, see Arizona yesterday.

I just don't believe ratings or monetary gain should come before the game itself. Now obviously the NFL thought something was wrong with their decision, because now they have moved Baltimore/Jacksonville to 4 p.m.. This was done, because even if New England wins at Buffalo, theoretically the Jets still have a sliver of playoff hope, which is if Jacksonville beats Baltimore, which there is little chance of,Baltimore is the biggest favorite of the day Sunday.

I know Dallas has the tie breaker against Tampa, but do they against Chicago also if they & Minnesota win out?

are you serious?....i had tickets to the game.....now i`m not sure that i want be f-cking around with getting out of there after dark....

f-ck!

That's another issue, that I won't even get into. Philly/Dallas should be a 1 o'clock game period. Fans get screwed and can't even stand out in the freezing weather with sunshine, just so the NFL can reap some extra capital. It's bullshit.

Personally, I would always want to go first and put the pressure on the others, however if NE wins I highly doubt NY Jets will want to win to knock Miami off and allow NE the spot.....just can't see it as there is too much animosity between NE/NY.

What you are saying, is exactly my point. New England winning in orchard Park is by far a layup. It's a divisional game & Buffalo is playing for the coaches job possibly. I doubt the Jets would purposely throw the game in the scenario you presented, because the man genius is playing for his job also. However, its just logical to me if New England had won, consciously or not New York would be making vacation reservations & mailing the game in. Moving Baltimore to 4 p.m. should promote somewhat of a honest effort, but if Baltimore is handling Jacksonville handily at halftime, what's stopping the Jets from going through the motions in the second 1/2?

NBC has the right to flex the night games in the last few weeks. This isn't an NFL choice, and if the Jets didn't lose yesterday, I'm sure that Jets vs Dolphins would have been the game flexed to 8pm instead.

Yes.

Dallas wins they are in no matter what else happens.

I understand about teams out of it not quite playin the same. No doubt. But that happens every year, either with teams just playin for nothing at all or teams resting players etc.

I realize NE/NYG didnt do this week 17 last year, but history was on the line there & it was a special circumstance so to speak.

NE would not be the first team negatively affected by teams not playing all out/staters etc Week 17.

I give NE credit this year, way more than last year IMO. They did a great job w/ the situation they were put it.

GL!

Must have overlooked this post when I was reading, 3 Seconds pretty much nailed it.

WITH THE MONEY THESE CLOWNS ARE MAKING IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK THEM TO PLAY OUT THE LAST GAME??? WITH THAT BEING SAID THEIR IS TRUTH IN YOUR ASSESMENT. THE FUNNY THING IS THAT THE WHOLE THING IS A CATCH 22. THE LEAGUE USES FLEX TO BRING IN MORE CASH. THE PLAYERS' AGENTS GET THE PLAYERS MORE CASH BASED UPON THE TEAMS PROFITS. SO YOU WOULD THINK THAT THE PLAYERS WOULD GIVE THEIR BEST EFFORTS REGARDLESS OF THE SITUATION, BUT ???

We should be happy that NBC does have the right to pick the game for the week. It is a far better situation than the old days where two teams that were supposed to be in a critical matchup, according to preseason billing, are stuck as the primetime battle.

Jacksonville was picked by many to win their division, and if Balt-Jax was the feature game this week, we all would have been screwed.

I agree .Our only chance(assuming NE wins)is the NYJ are hungary to knock Miami out.

I dont nec. agree that by changing start times alters the outcome of an other.Having said that, should they of kept the start times original??? YES!!

The sad part is if thay win,and make it a team like NE deserves it more.Lets save the agony of Dallas losing in the first rd.(Phillips :mj07: ) and give it to NE no matter what conference as they have shown more heart that Dallas ever could.

Peace Out.!

The fair solution would be to do the final week the same way they do it in the English soccer leagues - have ALL games start at the same time. It's the only way to assure maximum effort.
