What a day....snow,sleet,rain,snow,ice...no school..but NY state education department shoots an airball. In NY we have regents..those are state tests for HS students...we give them in Jan. and in June...you need to pass them to graduate HS..my school gives the English 3 regents in Jan......so yesterday over 350 students came in for the 2 hour test...BUT...part two of the test was today...now we all know that you need both parts of the test to make it a legal test...so we are all praying for no snow on day 2..BUt almost the entire state today closed schools due to the weather..not sure of the Buffalo area...NY Commish of Education sends out an urgent E-mail yesterday saying that if your school closes tomorrow the part 1 is null and void....you can retake it in june...yesterdays test doesn't count....now since the entire state is closed and the part 2 tests are locked and sealed in everyones schools safe why not extend part 2 to monday...we still have regents until friday in other subjects...They could make monday am part two...
but they needed to do that today because if any schools opened today the tests have been exposed....not sure if any one understands this but sometimes we educators are the dumbest people around...many of us yesterday e-mailed and called the commish in albany to see if he would do that...we never got an answer...so I;m sure some schools today somewhere in out state gave out part two of the test and the rest of us have to suffer...unreal

In my 5th year of retirement from being a middle school principal of 35 years. Don't miss the politics, paperwork, parents. Miss the kids at times but keep prefeclty happy with golf, travel, betting, doing nothing and being on several boards. Saw a great bumper sticker the other day "Being Retired--getting up in the morning with nothing to do and going to bed with 1/2 of it done!

Smitty,I have over 80 e-mails from parents this afternoon.I'm not going to open any of them till tomorrow am..and I stopped at around 2.00 pm looking at my mail box..probaly another 80...and there is nothing we can do...and we did send something home to the parents explaining if it snows the test can't be counted...

hawkeye... I like that bumper sticker...I also had 34 years but it was spread around. The 1st 20 were athletic dir, teacher and basketball coach..the last 14 like you... what I'm doing now is great...basically getting two salaries..I'm still retired but have a waiver for 2 yrs..getting a per diem...after what happened to me who would ever think something like this could happen..everyone says" things happen to good people" and I know I have always been good to everyone...I love my new school...at my old school I memorized 800 of the 1,100 students. I would take the yearbook home and when I had to bond with my wife watching Idol, dancing w/the stars, etc I would go over a few pages a nite...now I have to start all over..I know about 200 so far and ironically we have the same amount of students..
bohawk..what you do is what I want to do...go down to texas for a few months. My daughter in austin is due in june..it will be my 1st grandchild...and since my son moved to austin after graduating from ECU that's two...my son-in-law and the new baby.. so if we vote in a family election its 5-0 for texas...I'm a no vote,my philly daughter is thinking about philly in a yr or two and I have one a soph in college..
I know when the baby comes my wife wants to move..she is a native Texan and hates our weather..ands she has her brothers down there..include them in the election and i'm cooked..lol
Hows the weather in padre...can you swim or is the water to cold..you could always get a guidance job down there right? lol take care..
