Just got our latest car insurance bill in the mail and wanted to get any opinions on which companies you guys like and if I'm paying too much. Like a lot of folks I'm trying to cut and trim our budget any way possible. I'm currently with Nationwide and pay around $1680 a year for coverage for my wife and I on 2 cars. Policy is pretty standard and we have excellent driving records.

if you get an umbrella policy to cover your home(if you aren`t renting) and cars, you`ll save quite a bit....

also, the bigger companies can probably give you a better deal...not to mention that the chance of settlement in case of an accident seems more likely with the bigger companies...nobody likes a fricking auto accident case dragging out for years....

If you are both safe drivers and you can afford to fix your car in case of accident the higher deductible may be an option. I saved over $50 a month by raising my deduct from $1000 to $2000

State Farm

I'm with State Farm for a reason. I admit that I pay quite a bit but I feel comfortable in the coverage I have for a reason. :SIB

BTW, don't feel bad, I pay about $220 a month but that is for full coverage on 2 cars and the state requirements on 1 car. I'm single and rotate between two different cars.

Thanks guys! I think I'm gonna look at raising my deductible to $1,000 from $500. See what they offer me in terms of price and decide from there whether I want to look at another company. We've been with Nationwide and have never had a problem with them.

Talked w/ rep from my current company and they can save me about $200 for the year by raising my deductible on collision. Said thats about all they could do as we already have all the good driver discounts. She's gonna give it to the agent to work me up a new quote. I've gotten about 10 emails with quotes and 10 calls on my cell from car insurance agents. :scared Sifting, sifting, sifting.

Don't go to Progressive. They're a shit company that will bend you over if you have a wreck. They will try to put after-market parts on an 07. It's for the Wal-Mart types, like Vinnie.

Go to Netquote.com and fill out their quote info. DO NOT give your social. Several agents in your area will contact you. Phone each one and take 5 minutes to give them your info. Make sure an Independent rep is on there, if not, get the Yellow Pages and find one, like Bill Meyers Insurance or something. They can quote you with several carriers.

Write your auto and home at the same place to maximize discounts. This can save you as much as 25%. $1,000 deduct on home, be careful with high deducts on auto unless you are prepared to shell out the $$$ come claim time.

Any other questions I'm sure Gardenweasel will be glad to help, he seems to ooooze insurance knowledge.

Progressive....:mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

BTW....Nationwide sucks and you can blow them out of the water, unless you like sponsoring golfers and a whole tour.

Progressive........:mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

That might be the worst advise given on this board, ever.

I had Progressve in Florida. They replaced my windshield (no cracked windshield state) twice with no premium increase and had it done at my place of business. Never forked over a dime...

Never had problems with them and even added my fiance to my car for a twenty spot more...

Yep been with them for years never a problem.

My wife's Z3 got stolen in KC & they tried to take off the rims & tires and fucked them up.

Progressive replaced all the rims & tires with BMW rims even came out to look at the car. Tires were @ 50% of cost do to wear.

This thread here explains what people who know Agent think about advice

Maybe DOGS THAT BARK will see this and Ben can get some real help

No expert on property and casualty myself--but my 2 cents.
If I was shopping I would make copy of my current coverage and fax it to other carriers to get quote on duplicate coverage to avert someone giving me low bid but cutting coverage.
If savings were not at least 10% or more would probably stay where I am if satisified with service and claims experience in past.
Reason I wouldn't change for small savings is if you'd had no major claims and have prob in near future --they should look at it as overall claim experience--if you change and prob occurs they may not factor your prior good claim experience into equation.

you might also ask friends that live near you about their experience. If you hear allocades from more than one person of a particular agent/agency I would give them opp to quote it--as when it comes time to collect--service will far outweigh a few dollars saved.

prior suggestion of having home and all autos under one carrier was good--the more discounts you can incur--the better.

Again --sorry I couldn't be more precise--but not my area expertise.
