OK I missed in Indiana but finished watching the Ft Meyers rah rah episode.

Got to love these audiences. Got a pen and paper to log their questions/concerns.

1st guy wanted to know if he earned $3000 a month and unemployment was only $1,100 a month--what was O going to do to make up the diff. :) sound funny--all questions pertained to what are you going to give us except 2--one was concern on Americans patience the other was from admitedly pro greenie council women--their cream of the crop in Ft Meyers gov.
Her question (remember the greenie tag) was what would do if tomorrow- if there was no more oil--say what? How could there be no more oil tomorrow.

--back to the rest and what are you going to give me--
O replyed with what 'we" were going to give--evidently audience didn't know "we" were the american tax payor--or none of them were--as there were no questions on how/who were going to fund this.

The entire meeting could be sumed up in one phrase--

Ask not what you can do for your country but ask what your country can do for you.
:)

It seems to me that people are worried about how they are going to make ends meet. A lot like the Banks and the Big 3.

First of all, this is a staunchly red city/county. Probably as much as yours.

And yeah, people here might have some concerns.

10.1 % unemployment

This county has the 2nd highest foreclosure rate in the country (after Clark County, Nevada.)

Average sales price in county of completed sales of a single family house in 12/05- $322,000

12/08- $106,000

There are only two things that drive the economy here and that's tourism and construction. Obviously both of those are in the toilet beyond belief.

It must be nice to sit on your perch looking down calling these people whiners or mooches. These are real people with real problems, just like in most of the rest of the country.

I guess this crap just reflects those stupid articles that you post that try to suggest that everything is just peachy all around the country.

Maybe your hamlet hasn't been affected, and that's splendid, but Fort Myers sure as hell been.

Kosar - those people are just whiners. If they invested in Chinese stocks 10 years ago like they were supposed to then they would be able to handle these down times.

"the bunker"
he had just come from elkhart, indiana(the recreational vehicle capital of the world)...... where the majority of folks work for the ailing rec.vehicle industry....

strangely enough, bock`s stimulus(which the senate just passed-time to go and hug the elderly ones you love) is gonna hurt the very people that actually buy rec. vehicles....

they run from around $55 grand up to $600,000....and everything he`s planning is going put the kibosh on hard working folks that might be able to afford such luxuries....

very odd choice of a venue to promote the stimulus....

obviously either the media didn`t get the irony or chose to ignore it....

To begin with I would expect that since they held meeting on Tursday afternoon that they weren't really looking to get any of the 90% employed there. ;)

On property values--do they have any gated communties in area where house have dropped to $106K ? You may have a part time neighbor. :)

In Indiana the county he visited vote against him 54/46. In Florida it was almost tie. Can't say he going into Dem's strong holds. And just picking at random folks from the room not ones in front row is refreshing. You think Mc Cain or Bush would let a woman living out of her car ask a question.

No, but you can get 4 or 5 bedroom(new) houses, 2800-3000 sq ft under air, in nice, gated communities for the low to mid 200's.

Or slightly smaller houses in gated communites in Fort Myers in the mid 100's.

Cape Coral-across the river- has 3 bedroom 1800-2000 sq ft houses(5 years old or newer) going for 45-60k. The banks own them, of course.

Cape Coral isn't bad at all, but it's not the same as South Fort Myers. Those sales bring the average down, along with Lehigh Acres which is a total wasteland. But those cities are in this county, and that's pretty much where people are buying because of the ridiculously low prices.

I bought a new construction townhouse and moved in in 03/03 for 221k. Gated community and all that. 2200 square feet under air. It's pretty nice. Especially for what I need.

In 12/05, my exact model in same development was going for 400k-415k. Not going for, but being sold for.

Last sale here on my floorplan(01/09)? 165k

A real estate mogul I will never be.

No Dave,

It wasn't almost a tie in this county. I believe 52/44 McCain. Even with that 8 point margin, it was the closest a dem has been in this county since Kennedy or some shit.

I've done mostly stupid things financially, but I still can't over my lucky timing in Vegas. And to think I was stressing and wanting to back out of my sale when it was happening mid '05. I'm glad I followed my instincts and got the f*k outta there. If I didn't I would be stuck in a hellhole city with a losing business in a house that never made money.

I would probably be as bitter and hateful as a Texan.

I don't know if they're 'gay', but I hate it. It's a pain in the ass. The transponder works about half the time. The stupid bitch in the office could care less and won't give(sell) me a new one. So *I* end up being the person described below even though I live here.

Many times there are 5 cars backed up waiting for one idiot 'visitor' trying to get his dumbass friend to ring him in on the call box thing.

If you read china thread you might note I have been out most China stocks for some time--have only handful left that haven't been sold at profit -or sold half when they doubled.
Do an inventory and report back-here is 5 year anniversary link :)
http://www.madjacksports.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110602&page=6

also if you paid attention in this forum or movers and shaker forum I bailed on all U.S. stocks after 06 elections--generally I like one party pres other party congress majority--but Pelosi and Reid aren't Dems they are extreme left radicals.

sold AXP at 55 -now 15.97
sold C at 54 now 3.35
sold GE @ 40 nowc 11.62
(you can do search and confirm)

so I'll :) along with you
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

as far as China stocks going in the tank--they have been hit harder in general than most global stocks--the question is which stocks will recover --my bet is/will be China and Brazil.

The question you should be concerned with is if/when China/japan consider that U.S. debt load of country and consumers will curtail consumer spending enough -that it is no longer economically sound to support our debt. You don't want to know the results.

On surprises--not much that will surprise me--
Will be happy to just break even on investments in 09----however do see biggest opp in my lifetime coming--with limited risk and great rewards possible--but thats for another thread this weekend for my buddy smurph.

--Main thing is I'm ,Obama-Pelosi and Reid proof.
Was fortunate I grew up in time period I did-had a lot of luck. All I ask now is that I am as fortunate with our most valuable asset--our health.

and if someone REALLY wants to rip you off, they will figure it out anyway. I think gated communities represent the worst traits of our paranoid culture.

They are indeed gay.

Very proud of you, Dogs. Those that held on deserve all the misery and poverty that they may incur.

Yeah Scott - do the searches to confirm.

Yeah, man, that worked out great for you. I wish I was that lucky(or smart), but fuck, I had no thoughts of moving(great place/great location) and really wasn't paying much attention to the local housing market. I didn't buy this place to flip it.

I certainly never could've predicted the meltdown. Not this sort of meltdown.

Oh well, such is life. I'm 'stuck' with it for a while. There are many millions worse situations out there, everywhere around the country.

That's just it - if I was living in a place a liked, I would have certainly held on. I only cashed out because Vegas was slowly destroying me. It was a Godsend (sorry Gmroz). I didn't see the meltdown either. Just got very very lucky.
