Half assed response? Whatever....

My response was spot on. You dems think the rich are the only ones who will be taxed at a higher rate. I got news for you, it's eventually (in this admin) going to be across the board for working people. Also, let's get to the ways some of this bailout/stimulus package will be spent: Volcano monitoring and a "magnetic levitation" train route from Las Vegas to Disneyland.

I totally understand the dem's perspective that Volcano monitoring is a MUST for our current economic crisis. Also, what will we do without a "magnetic levitation" train route from Las Vegas to Disneyland. I mean that's just another MUST for the economic well being of this country.

Whatever, indeed. I didn't vote for Obama and I'm not sold on him....now what?

As a responsible person, I know that when I amass debt, I have to pay it back. Why is my country any different? Your tax and spend BS is a complete joke. How should it work Jon? Spend, spend, spend? Spend, spend, tax? I'd love to hear why tax and spend is such a bad idea. Apparently, getting yourself into a massive debt hole, and then spending more without increasing income makes much more sense.

I would vote for us to take it on the chin with a Tax & Pay off debt route.

If we continue to think that our government is creating jobs that actually help the economy we will continue to dig deeper in the hole.

I'm not a Stimulus Package or a Bailout guy, J. I just got put off by Kniefl's dismissal. I really don't care to see someone who claims to be highly trained in a field of study (economics) make a half assed response to a legitimate thought.

Yeah, he is a highly trained economist selling seo. Google it up if anyone needs a "job". I know a guy who is a highly trained telecommunications expert selling the yellow pages.

You tend to be very critical of my opinions. Where are your opinions? All I see you do in this particular forum is bitch, bitch, and bitch about both sides?

The tax and spend a complete joke? That's what this admin is all about which bothers me so much. The best economic approach is low tax and low spend; reducing government spending to lower the tax burden. You ever been to a communist country, or better yet a former communist country. I have been to the Czech Republic and Russia which were both a communist country at one point. Most (not all) of the older people don't do shit and think the government should take care of them. You know who are the most successful people in these former communist countries? Young people who are smart, innovative, and who have the drive and means to succeed. The "older people" attitude of these countries is very similar to some of the people here. The big difference is that it is not just the older people here, it's the younger one's too that think they should be taken care of. Oh "yay", Obama got elected and now the gov't is going to pay my bills!!! Let's tax and spend and have more social programs that give more money to the people. Let's make sure that everyone can get into as big of a house as they want regardless of income, or else we'll come down hard on the banks (This may not be Obama's current plan, but it sure as hell was Clinton's). I could go on, and on, and on.

This is where you and I differe the most, I think. It seems that you have this hatred for successful people, and I don't get it.

"Let them pay their fair share." -- "they" already foot the vast majority of the bill for this country. what do suggest is their "fair share"? I would like to see a percentage.

Just curious.

This blog post somewhat sums up why I think many people miss the whole point by saying "tax the rich more" is a good strategy. When you think of the "rich", you think of Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Mark Cuban. But that is not who is effected. They don't really give a fuck about their increase.

But "rich" as described by the tax cuts that are going to be reversed effect a lot more people than that uber-rich club.

Please read this short blog post. It sums up my thoughts better than I can in writing.

http://www.drjeffcornwall.com/2009/02/do-the-math.html

The current administration in Washington plans to let the tax cuts expire, which leads to a 4% increase in the marginal tax rate.

That suggests that we can expect almost a 6% drop in the probability of those filing a single tax return starting businesses and an 8% for those married citizens filing a joint return.

The President's speech last night gave lip service to the need for entrepreneurs to pull us out of the recession. However, his action of letting the tax cut expire leading to a 4% increase in marginal rates will be like throwing a bucket of cold water on this sector of our economy.

Please elaborate on taxing the hell out of the middle class. I think you are stuck in DTB mode.

Would love to get into this debate--but tough to do until someone defines middle class--

Is it the 50% that pay taxes or the 50% that don't?

Are O's base that are receiving these welfare-medicade-food stamps--mortgage bailouts or those he refers to on his website http://www.recovery.gov/ as "the vulnerable" getting 81 billion--are they the working class?

Working class once was easy to define--it was the 80% that paid taxes.

Now I'm a low life:142smilie

I've got a simple question for you.

Can you read?

Did you read the entire thread? Who attacked who first?

I know we have a lot of smart, articulate posters here, both democrat and republican. They back up their arguments.

Some people that post in here resort to bashing/attacks and are just dumb though.....

I'm going to take a break from this forum for a while. Tired of the bashing/personal attacks I see frequently by some really clueless people. These same people can't back up their arguments or think for themself (check for yourself by checking their last 10 posts) so they resort to name calling, bashing, and personal attacks. Perfect examples of 2 such individuals in this thread are Jabberwocky and shawn555.

Missed that part my bad.

And you are the one making personal attacks.

The comments you made to jabber are those of a lowlife, sorry if you disagree.

I would think an Insurance Man could figure out who the middle class was. You post so many useless figures. Oh well, let me try to give you a clue.

Take me for example. I work in a building with about 100 other people. People in the building are making anywere from about $20,000 to $100,000 a year. As far as I know we all pay taxes. I know I fall somewhere in the between of that and I pay taxes. My guess is that we are the middle class.

I am not really sure who those are that don't pay taxes. Last time I was laid off they even take taxes out of that. Yes you can have it deferred but you still have to declare it as income.

I hope that clears things up for you.

Now as for welfare and food stamps I would guess that because of the une, ployment cause by Bush's Recession, those roles will grow.

But hey, don't worry, McCain says the fundamentals are good!

Who are the people u are talking about here? People on this site? i haven't met one righty or lefty that was asking for a handout. When i own my shop every young kid i hired (about 15 total)were preparing to go to college but one and she has had a job since i sold my place. Who are these Americans u are talking about that just lay at home and the Gov't drops them a check for no reason what so ever? You are so brainwashed by the likes of nitwit neo con radio to go after the poor its laughable. Were is ur outrage for these bankers who are stealing money at an alarming rate? Not 200 a week some welfare mother makes. Some of these bonuses these thieves are stealing could pay for welfare ten times over. No where on ur radar is anything about these pigs. It is almost like it is acceptable to u since it is white collar crime. Are these the productive people u are talking about? Id bet my last dollar that everyone that leans left in here has a problem with paying out welfare but recognizes where the real big money is being stolen, but like the dope that u are, u will always focus on the poor people like u are instructed too. JUst like the Rush's of the world want u to think. I always wondered why Agent got on u so much. How much does string cost in Texas? It has to be one of the most expensive demanded objects out there cause there sure are a lot of puppets running around in that state. Its one after another with u guys. Do you have any other channels on ur TV besides Fox? Even then u should be able to figure out when u are being bullshitted. No?

I, for one, am fecking outraged about the compensation of failing companies, the auto bailout, the pay benefits increase to our "public servant" politicians AND the hand-out attitude that is starting to take over our country.

If you subscribe to the effect that the lower and middle class need to be "saved" by our government, then I don't think you can complain too much when the big guys are saved as well.

It's turning into a "save me, too" game.

The real problem I have is that people really believe this is going to turn our economy around. If this continues, we are totally and 100% fecked. The government does not create real commerce. They take money from ALL of our taxpayers from all income levels, dilutes it with their over-spending and pork, then gives a very small amount to the person who is now employed by the job they "created". Then they turn around and take 30% of that back from that newly employed person.

Isn't that fecking great? Thanks, big government! You fecking scheisters!

I honestly don't think its gonna work either. I think it will help some but i feel that in order to get the economy rolling again is thru building, selling, and furnishing houses and buildings. That is huge for the economy and i don't see how anyone can get it going. Banks are not lending, people are not buying which means nobody is furnishing their houses or buildings. The best way i always thought u could do it is by dropping interest rates but that doesn't even work now. Most can't buy right now.
Man i can remember the day when i use to work for the carpenters unions and said to my buddy that everywhere u turn someone is building something and someday this has to slowdown. I mean literally u couldn't drive 100 yards without seeing some type of structure going up. If these interest rates start climbing for some reason kurby

This is spot on, sponge!!!!

We have had too many years of hyper-growth. It is only natural (and unavoidable) to have lean years to correct.

Our government is trying to sell this story that we don't have to have these lean years. They are telling us that they can "save" us from this happening.

It is complete and utter horseshit. It's a lie. And, unfortunately, it looks like the general population is buying it.

I am not defending anything Bush has done, btw. Obama was handed a steaming pile of shit when he walked in. But throwing a bottle of $1 trillion perfume on it doesn't turn it into to brownies.
