Indeed, he traveled 5 times in one play... this was suppose to be a home game! That combined with the countless flops that Duke fooled the refs on was the difference here. I thought I was watching Wisconsin... the two top flop teams in America.

I just saw this on Sports Center.

This is unbelievable. What the hell were the referees looking at.

I think I may have just watched a fixed game.

Yeah but the argument against a fixed game is duke ALWAYS gets the calls, I mean that last play with all the travels was bad......real bad.....I was not even on it.

While the officiating was arguably in the favor of Duke for 39 minutes, the refs clearly determined the ATS winner with the no-call on the late travel. These refs should be suspended w/o pay for the remainder of the season.

Its incredible. They fall on almost every play. Every close block/charge call went Duke's way yet again. VaTech flopped one time but there was definitely contact. No call. 2-3 possessions later, Duke does the same thing...charge, Duke ball.

I just don't understand why we can't get Duke games ref'd fair. I really think it is a conspiracy that they get ratings b/c some people like them and so many hate them so people watch I guess.

Its just absurd. Being a UNC fan, I realize that heels have gotten some calls over the years, and I don't like that....but I also know good teams in all sports will get benefit of doubt, etc. Doesn't mean its right.

But Duke over last 10 years or so....its getting worse than ridiculous. Its just blatant....they are such an average team, yet have a chance to win the ACC b/c of this crap.

Not to mention, yesterday I take a 1/2 point loss when VaTech outplayed them by 10 points....and Scheyer, who is the biggest flopper ever, travels 3 times at the end. Could have been a 5-second call as well....

The 5-second call was close. I don't think he was closely guarded the instant he caught it, so we're talking tenths of a second here and its sort of a judgement call (ref counting).

That said, I GUARANTEE one or the other would have been called if Duke was on defense, and the announcers would have gone on and on about how gutty that duke defense is.

I am pretty certain that 5 seconds can only be called in the frontcourt. I don't believe it applies in the backcourt. Either way it was a shitty no call and cost us VT bettors a cover.

correct, there is no 5 second call in the backcourt

you guys think that game was bad, go watch the 2001 final 4 when the not only got every call in one, but TWO games.

Thanks for clarification on the rule. I always thought there was a 5-second rule in the backcourt and I thought it started over in the front court if you were being closely guarded as you crossed...

Isn't it about time to get rid of the 5-second call anyway? I wish they would put the shotclock down to 30 seconds and do away with 5-sec call.

I understand having it when there was no shotclock and even when it was at 45-seconds. But its just one more thing that becomes refs judgement...especially when a guy is dribbling. I hate it when a defender extends his arm and somehow that constitutes being closely guarded.

I agree with cie there should be a punishment

not because of the spread aspect but more along the lines of gross negligence on the part of the officials. Does the ACC usually comment on these types of situations?
In the final minutes of the game an advantage was clearly given to duke and taken away from the home team of all teams.....
