John Madden is calling it quits.:sadwave:

NBC said Thursday that the burly ex-coach who has been one pro football's top broadcast analysts has decided to retire. The 73-year-old Madden has been working for the past three seasons on NBC's Sunday night NFL game. His last telecast was the Super Bowl between Arizona and Pittsburgh.

Since he left coaching in 1979, the former Oakland Raiders coach has worked as an analyst for all four broadcast networks. His "Madden NFL Football" is the top-selling sports video game of all time.

Madden is reluctant to fly and often traveled to games in a specially-equipped bus. He said in a statement that he still loves all aspects of the job, "but I know this is the right time."

I kno whe was not enoyed by all, but I felt he truly added the "Big Game" aspect to every telecast he was on. One of the best ever IMO!

Jackson was the same for me on Saturdays!!

too bad, now I have to hear to a bunch of people who like their own voice. Can't stand Kornheiser...

I loved Madden and as stated before, he made many boring turkey day Lions game watchable ... was always psyched to hear him do an NFC East game especially involving the Eagles.

The worst thing about this is that Collinworth'less' will be taking his place. I might have to start watching SNF with mute on. Collinsworth along with Thiesman are the worst football announcers ever IMO and I dislike Collinsworth'less' even more.

Bring back Kornheiser or even Dennis Miller who pretty much was annoying but not this guy.

I really wouldn't mind seeing Jaws in the booth but I guess he wll still be doing MNF.

I'm assuming al micheals is going to retire as well. Just saw him last month on real sports and said that when madden leaves he will leave.

I hope Michaels stays on, he is the best announcer ever bar none

I will miss Madden he was great with all his insight, he is going out on top after announcing the Super Bowl

Wow, this is depressing. I've always been a HUGE Madden supporter... Kornheiser (sp?) doesn't bring 1/4 of what Madden had to offer.

I had no idea he was already 73.
