Car deals?

Just curious if anyone has been looking at new or relatively new vehicle deals lately? I know it's a tough time for many, but it's a good time to buy a new vehicle with the car companies in duress, and also considering the 2009 sales and excise tax deduction by the recent recovery act. We are probably going to buy something over the next few months, due to our son starting to drive in the fall, and I'm going to pass on my car to him, most likely.

If anyone has any ideas or info, please pass it along, I would appreciate it.

I am going to buy a gas guzzler Tahoe when GM shuts down for 9 weeks. Great time to take advantage. Hopefully they will be able to go down on their overpriced SUV's in the next few months.

I am also looking at the Lincoln Navigator, can't decide.

Either of these would likely be an "upgrade" for you

I went through south Miami a couple of months ago and could not believe the New Car Dealerships that were closed, let alone the ones still open and no inventory.

If I was buying new....drive in and ask for the newest salesperson there....assuming no trade-in.

Pick out the vehicle, ask for an invoice, offer $100.00 over invoice with all rebates and incentives applied. Don't play the game with...'Let me get another Mgr." WALK

If you get it for an actual $100.00 over invoice, I'd tip the salesperson a $100.00, he/she maybe made $50.00, and actually on your side.

REFUSE to pay the Doc Fee....it's added funds the dealers invented years ago to fleece the car buyer again.

I've been out of the car business for several years, made an honest living, treating people the way I wanted to be treated

Some stores do......I always worked at a 1st one out the door. We always handled the 'hogs' in our own way.

I was the new guy once....I always ask for the newest salesperson if I'm buyin something that I know I want. I remember my 1st sale....

'73 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.....$50.00 commish :00hour

Nobody has mastered pre-judging a customer, NOBODY....

You didn't when you were in sales did you?
hell no! i had salesmen that would pre-judge about everything you can think of. it's hard not to but you never know.

this could be a long story so i'll leave it at that for now :D

1 At worst pay invoice or less

2 Get your own financing, credit union or your bank when offered a special. Or tell them you can get a better rate. If you have good credit thew will usually not be able to hold rate ie give you 7.9 but really got a 5.9 etc.

3 Try not having a trade

4 Everything is negotiable including backend products Service agreements, GAP, protection sealants and all the rest anywhere from 100-300% markup

5 End of month is a good time to buy Definitely squeeze a better deal on a new car. Dealers get a set amt per new vehicle if they hit their # and they will virtually give away a car to get that exra 500 per 60, 70 80 they sell in a month.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the ideas. I think I might be looking at a midsize Jeep vehicle of some sort - something I can load everybody up in when going to the lake, something that can handle snow, looks nice, etc.

40% off :00hour I will be buying for sure, had no idea you could get that much off, what is the best amount to offer them? 40% off or offer them 50% so you can go up, I do not like negotiating at all

a few weeks ago I went to a local Chevrolet dealership saw the Tahoe I wanted and told the salesman that I would not be motivated to buy until they knocked 15 or 20 K off the price, he laughed at me and told me that they were into making profit, not selling them at a loss, I told him you have at least 6K build in for former workers I refuse to pay that on the top, he told me that I was crazy, I then walked away telling him that I was not interested until they lowered the price significantly. By the way they have at least 50 Tahoes sitting on the lot and he is telling me that they are still selling great, what a liar.

Most of the deals i have been seeing on dealer lots is with 0% financing for longer periods of time.

Best deals are on used cars right now. With people trying to trim down their expenses to afford their mortgages they are dumping off those nice second & third cars they bought a few years ago.

great deals to be had on moderate to minimumly used higher end cars right now. you just have to keep an eye out, and be willing to but from another person and not a dealer.
