I am wanting to buy a pistol and there is a gun show here this coming weekend.I am wondering if anyone here has ever gone to one of these things and will be there be any deals or is it a waste of time.

I have found the deals to be guns that are rusted guns and you have to restore them - or they are damaged in some way....

The nice, clean, newer guns are comparable to retail or barely below retail....

Let me know how it goes.....just curious if the ones I have been to were just shitty gun shows.

it's not a waste of time IF you know your guns and what they are worth. If you don't, you'll get ripped off and not know it. I have a fair knowledge of guns, but I wouldn't go to a gun show to buy a gun unless I took along one of my friends who knows the market better than I do.

this is true,I know that I am wanting a Taurus brand 9mm and there are not that many models so I am pretty familiar with the price ranges on these but not any other brands,so as long as I stick to Taurus I will be ok

Should find plenty of those. Not too hot of a pistol imho.

it has a life time warranty,it is in my price range and it will go boom when I pull the trigger.
I see no reason to pay $1000 for something that is just going to be setting in the dresser by my bed.

I suppose. Get something bigger than a 9mm though. You want to really put somebody down if you're going to shoot them.

I like the idea of the high capacity of the 9mm.Seems like the .45's hold 10-11 or less bullets. If I find a deal on a .40 or .45 I have no problem with either of these.

If you're buying a gun for home defense - you should buy a shot gun - saw off the barrel and put in an extender mod for extra shells. Then all you have to do is point and spray.

More important than caliber size is getting some practice time in at the range. I usually find that the gun shows prices on Taurus are slightly less than the price at the local Academy sporting goods store.

I can't quote a source, but I thought a shotgun was not a good choice for home defense because of its more cumbersome nature.

I also agree with practicing at the range.

The Joker is a suprisingly good shot with his pistol.

The rack of a shotgun is the best "first" defense against an intruder.

The shotgun should also be sawed with a re-fit pistol grip to narrow its cumbersome handling.

Shot gun (Remington 870 12 gage) is the way to go for home protection. You will hit something when you shoot, and you will take chunks out, not make little holes. Use #4 Buck Shot, and sleep with confidence. Also, the Taurus is a malfunction waiting to happen. Get a Glock model 19.

Well there were not many deals at the gun show,I asked a guy if he would negotiate the price on a .40 cal and he said no,I wanted the gun but it was a little high.I did find a good enough deal for me,I bought a Taurus pt 92 9mm for $390 and he included a box of ammo 50 count.
