Doesn't escape me. My common denominator is geography and yours is too many brown people.

Believe you have one track mind--
-only colors I see shouting at you are red and blue. :)

I was referring to who are running these tax and spend states vs the more consevative ones.

Does a bankrupt CA who has lead in greenie initiatives-big gov --healthcare reform etc give you any clue of success on national level.

--only hope I see are enhanced state rights--let each live with their convictions--without the fed being able to punish the productive states (via fed taxes) to bailout the spendthrifts.

Should make for an interesting 4th of July

The first 9 cities are oilfeild cities. Well maybe not Little Rock. So thats surprising that these cities are recession proof

As for the economy, isn't some of it due to the oil industry or has that slowed up and it is other things?

Cant really speak for the other cities. But the most profitable company in the world is here in Dallas. Exxonmobile. So a big shot in the arm there. Dallas ranks 3rd in city with most fortune 500 companies behind Houston and NY. (wow. Thank you Wikipedia)

I think a lot of companies set up shop here cause the land is plentiful and cheap. Its centrally located and has a big ass airport.

I know AT&T just moved here. My wifes company Orthofix moved here a few years ago. See a lot of east coast migration lately.

They did close the GM plant for the summer though. A lot of people out of work.

Hope this turns around soon

At least 10 of those cities have many gov jobs. I think 9 have our money from over priced oil. And If your Texas and spend very little on education. If I remember 41 out of 50. And Do they ever fix there roads. So some times there is bad hidden in the good.

He's talking about corporate headquarters. We have many very large, publicly traded companies. They get tax breaks, so we have very solid employment. Second component is we have plenty of land to continue building outward, just as SoCal did. Keeps house prices honest, we've never been crazily inflated in our values. Centrally located, decent weather. Great values on commercial real estate. People have lost their jobs here, sure, but overall very stable and still plenty of jobs.

As to Chickenman's question, here's your answer:

I have lived in several states and have traveled fairly extensively throughout the country. The deal with Texans is they REALLY believe they are not only the shit, but the god damn center of the universe. They truly don't think there is anything better, nor could there be, outside of their land. They REALLY believe that there is just nothing better. I find it kind of amusing. It's just that puffed out chest mentality, without really ever having been anywhere else to make such an asinine statement. I do find Texans overall to be very friendly. Just a little off about how great their state is. Most that are blowhards like that haven't traveled outside of the state to even know what's out there. Apparently, this attitude has existed for a really long time....thus, the stereotype...

Kelly, what all parts of Texas have you lived in? I know you live in Dallas but surely for you to make statements like this you've also lived all over the state and know how most of the people act. I've lived in 11 cities in Texas and I can tell you the attitude of the people in Dallas couldn't be more different thant the attitude of people in West Texas. The people in West Texas have a totally different attitude than the people in Austin. So if you haven't lived in any other parts of the state I find what you said to be a very "asinine statement."

I've never thought about Texas being the best. I've visited and lived quite a few other states and I find that most have their pros and cons. To me the only thing that has ever mattered was where I have the most friends. That seems to make wherever I live a really good place. There are good parts of Texas and parts I wouldn't want anything to do with.

Ok you are going to paint a state of 24million people with one broad brush??

Thats like me saying everyone single person from the east coast is rude and abrasive. (Well in Philly everyone might be)

Im sure people are proud of their state but I wouldnt really know cause i have never heard anyone really talk about it? And i certainly have never heard anyone being a blowhard about it. What is there to be a blowhard about??

I moved my wife here from CT and she has mentioned many times how friendly everyone is around here. Her friends and family say the same thing when they come to visit. Im sure there are some blow hard A holes.. but for the most part.. good people:mj06:

Sure i would move to San Diego in a heartbeat if i got the chance.. but for the most part. im good here. I dont miss the east coast at all.
