so, my cardiologist tells me that drinking red wine can improve my low HDL and suggests I do so.

I know nothing about it, and have no idea if I even like it (highly doubtful).

Any suggestions on what kind to get? :mj06: :mj07:

Hmmm, if not a wine drinker, (and I am not) why not just do Niacin:

Or orange juice with some phytosterols in them, same with some butter substitutes that work on cholesterol. Not as big effect on HDL as Niacin will but some benefit.

Every point increase of HDL is 2-3 points off of LDL!! :00hour

dogface, I'm not excited about those Niaspan side effects!

since u know about this, my total was 180, LDL 130, and HDL 35. Pretty out of whack, huh? Must be hereditary with all the cardio I do.

Clint: Goto the store and get some Yellow Tail Cabernet (either the red label or purple label). It is cheap, but is pretty good for the money. Drink a small glass with your dinner and a glass of water. The taste will grow on you, but this will help you get through that "tough love" stage.

1. Do not refrigerate it, even after opening.
2. It will go bad after a couple days. Won't make you sick, but the taste will get bitter on you.

My fiance suggests...

My fiance suggests...

Cline Zinfandel

or

Rosemblum Cuvee

She adds World Market salespeople can help if you have that corporation where you live.

gl---honestly, I'm more of a beer guy, but red wine is not horrible.

My wife drinks that shit all the time....

My wife drinks that shit all the time....

Being European, she drinks one or two glasses a night and she likes the cabs the best. Some of the current bottles in our wine rack are:

Spier Cabernet

Rodney Strong Cabernet

Trefethen Cabernet

Windsor Vineyards Cabernet

Geyser Peak Cabernet

Kendall Jackson Cabernet

Beauliu Vineyard Cabernet

Rodney Strong Cabernet

Charles Shaw Cabernet (Cheap at Trader Joe's, but decent she says)

Simi Cabernet

She picks some of it up at the Wine Store across the street when they have tastings on Saturdays. I don't really like wine that much, I prefer a bud light or a good wheat beer. I'll drink a glass of it with dinner if we're at a nice steak place but that's about it.

he is not a drinker so I think he will have trouble with the strong taste at first

go with a girlie wine like Sutter Home or Beringer Zinfadels and you will acquire a taste quicker, these both are not much stronger than juice plus they are only about 5-6 dollars a bottle:shrug:

and Clint...... :toast:

As some have mentioned, Zinfandel is an easy drinking red varietal. As others have mentioned, pour a glass of wine and a glass of water with your dinner. Chase each sip of wine with water. After a couple of weeks, you will no longer need the water. Cheers:toast:

Get you some Merlot, try a few, find one you like. I drink a bottle some days but mostly a glass a night till it's gone.

Anything by Marietta Cellars from Sonoma County--especially like the Old Vine Red-now up to Lot number 49--#47 is outstanding--around $12 a bottle and their Angeli Cuvee 2004 or older--super-around $25 a bottle--their Cab and Zin any year is great alsos. Lambert Bridge and Ferrari Carano out of Sonoma Coutny puts out good reds also--G:

I just bought a bottle of Yellow Tail merlot. This is extremly inexpensive wine but not bad at all. I paid $7.98 for the bottle.
