This is one of those movies where the cast delivers on every level. The movie is about an old-school reporter who works alongside a police detective to try to solve the murder of a congressman's mistress.
Ben Affleck plays the congressman and he even delivers a stellar performance that surprised me! He interacts well with Russell Crow on screen and the rest of the cast is excellent and really pulls you into the story.
This movie is a throw-back to political thrillers from the 60's and has a few expected twists. The beginning is okay, but the middle is very entertaining! At one point I wanted to get up and refill my coke, but opted to stay and see what happened instead.
I will say though, the ending isn't a majestic hollywood ending. It ends on a lower note which is fine. My favorite political thriller is All the Presidents Men (About the events that occured at the Watergate Hotel) - State of Play is not as good, but it does deliver.
I reccomend this movie only if you're bored, looking to get out of the house and be entertained for 2 hours. This is not the kind of movie that will be in everyone's DVD collection - it's not a great movie, but it doesn't suck.
