Got a good chance tp watch alot of the first week action. Now I am ready to jump into the fray and win me some cash.

I seen all I need to see of Georgia playing Okie St

I also watched South Carolina's game with NC St

If Cox plays the whole game this game should easily be in the bag.
IMO Cox is unable to deliver the ball on a straight line downfield to get it to Green. He is a game manager and that about it. If Georgia gets behind there is no way in hell Cox will be able to stand back there and fire strikes. Not with South Carolinas defense snorting and ripping. :scared

I think that South Carolina has a good chance to win this game but I am happy with them not losing by the 10.5 points.

I will take this early as I think the +7.5 is going to go down later in the week.

Sturdavent was being counted on to bolster the offensive line this year. He don't even make it past the third quarter.

The coach known for his offensive touch is once again trying to crank up the South Carolina attack, this time after his team's season-opening 7-3 victory at North Carolina State.

While grateful for the victory, Spurrier would like to cross the goal line more than once.

"We had a pretty conservative game plan. I didn't realize how really conservative it was until I watched the game, almost three times now," Spurrier said Sunday.

Spurrier said the Gamecocks attempted to ignite a running game that took heat a year ago and finished dead last in the Southeastern Conference at fewer than 100 yards a game. South Carolina ran almost twice as much as it passed against the Wolfpack, and Spurrier regretted not going downfield more often. :SIB

"I'm going to start coaching my butt off until we can throw the ball around," Spurrier said after Saturday's practice. "We've all been coaching, but we're going to put in overtime. We were pretty sad the other night. It's nobody's fault but mine."

So there was the 64-year-old Spurrier, the former Heisman Trophy winner, tossing passes to Gamecock receivers on Saturday. :00hour

It wasn't supposed to be like this when the national championship coach returned to the college game after two forgettable years with the Washington Redskins. However, Spurrier has had difficulty finding the same production ? or players ? who help post all those points during his days at Florida.

The win over N.C. State marked the sixth time South Carolina has scored a touchdown or less under Spurrier ? the same number of times it happened in his 15 seasons at Duke and Florida.

Spurrier's hopes rest with sophomore quarterback Stephen Garcia, who was a respectable 13 of 22 for 148 yards. He had one interception and was sacked three times.

With N.C. State linebacker and top defender Nate Irving lost for the season, Spurrier thought the Gamecocks should have been more productive.

"We just didn't do it," he said. "There's some things that we could've found that we didn't get to or didn't have in the game plan. So we need to learn from it."

And in a hurry.

South Carolina starts its SEC season at Georgia, one of the league's toughest venues. The Gamecocks relied on defense two seasons ago when they went into Sanford Stadium and left with a 16-12 victory.

South Carolina's offense might get some help with the return of injured receiver Dion LeCorn, who broke his leg in the spring but told Spurrier he'd likely be ready for Georgia.

The Gamecocks defense will get a boost with the return of defensive end Clifton Geathers, suspended for the season opener because of his August arrest for fighting. Without him, South Carolina still held the Wolfpack offense to 133 yards.

But for Spurrier, offense is his focus, and he hopes to post the type of numbers he's more accustomed to.

"We got to get a balance between runs and passes that we can hit," he said. "So we can look like a good offense."
...................................................................

Georgia thinks that Okie St defense played them very well.

When they run into South Carolinas smash mouth they are going to be whirling dizzy.

Georgia running back Samuel did not impress me last week. He is adequate but he goes down at the first hand on him. Not sure what his problem is. And Caleb King was not much better breaking tackles last year. This is not a good game to bring King back in with his healing hamstring. The cocks will rip his hamstring and eat it for dinner.

Georgia's pass rush was non existant. And Garcia is also a very athletic running QB. He had some long passes just miss.

If Georgia benchs Cox ( which I doubt ) we will probably see Logan Gray freshman. I dont like his odds of being productive in this game .

Why go away from what works?
8:55 pm September 5, 2009, by Bill King

A few random observations, impressions and questions from Saturday?s game ?

For Georgia, it was largely a game of mistakes. My brother Tim, who joined me to watch the game at Allen?s in Athens, summed it up well when he noted that even with the offense falling off after the first quarter, what the game came down to was two turnovers that produced 10 points and a long kick return that set up another OSU score.

Speaking of the offense, what happened to the game plan after Georgia?s opening scoring drive? The Dogs came out with a varied attack that relied heavily on the run with Richard Samuel, had a seemingly confident Joe Cox spreading the passing game around to various receivers and saw a few new wrinkles in the red zone with backup QB Logan Gray in for one play and two-way freshman Branden Smith taking a direct snap in a ?Wild Dawg? play and running it a couple of other times.

And then Mike Bobo seemed to turn the page. The Dogs moved away from the run and tried to rely primarily on the arm of Cox, who suddenly seemed a lot more hesitant. He wasn?t on target much of the day; even on some balls that were caught, the receivers had to reach behind or high for the ball. Of course, there were a couple of other passes that, while not perfect, should have been caught. All in all, the passing game was not at all impressive.

Why would Georgia?s coaching staff go away from what was working?

And whether it was the flu or just a mediocre day on Cox?s part, why didn?t we see more of Gray at QB, especially in the second half after Cox overthrew several people and fumbled?

Defensively, the Dogs played a good game. Not a great game, because they still seem incapable of catching interceptable balls that hit them in the hands. But the offense did them no favors, giving OSU a short field several times, and the Georgia defense held OSU?s offense in check most of the first half and kept them well below the number of points they?re accustomed to scoring.

Where was the supposed improvement in the kickoff game? OK, at least none of them went out of bounds. But Blair Walsh made a 53-yard field goal, the longest of his career, and yet he can?t put a kickoff in the endzone? And the coverage on kickoffs was still abysmal. On that long Cowboys return, the seam down the middle of the Dogs? coverage looked like an open interstate highway.

As for the punting game, Drew Butler was superb (helped by some great bounces when OSU?s Dez Bryant unwisely let the ball hit the ground a couple of times), with an average of 57 yards for six punts, and Prince Miller had some great returns. Unfortunately, they were nullified by block-in-the-back penalties. The Dogs didn?t draw as many flags as the Cowboys, but ours hurt more. And we had to punt way too often thanks to the sputtering offense.

On the subject of the officiating, it was inconsistent. That first flag on Georgia for unnecessary roughness on a receiver was pretty lame. It was a vicious hit but a fair one. In the chest, not the helmet. Even ABC?s Sean McDonough, not one of my favorites, was all over that, noting, ?If they?re gonna throw a flag on everything that looks bad, you might as well go play touch football.? Sure, they threw a makeup flag against the Cowboys for the same thing. But how could they not call it again later against OSU when it was blatant?

That lack of a pass interference call on the Cowboys in the first quarter was another poor showing by the officials. And there was that bad spot down near the Georgia goal line. Why on earth didn?t Mark Richt challenge that?

And can a few days of cooler weather in Athens this week really be blamed for the fact that the Georgia team seemed to be wilting by the third quarter? A team that trains in August in Georgia shouldn?t be that fatigued that early.
................................................................

Dogs defense seemed very tired in the second half . They did not have the passion I watched in the Alabama game vs the Hokies.

I guess you cant coach pride and tougness. Georgia had some good hits. But some sloppy plays also.

1. Georgia must get better play at quarterback. It would be foolish to lay Georgia?s 24-10 loss at Oklahoma State at the feet of senior quarterback Joe Cox. It was a team loss if there ever was one. The kid was sick and deserves the benefit of the doubt. But here is the reality of playing in the SEC. The defensive coordinators around the league are going to look at that video tape. They will see Georgia?s first possession and how the Bulldogs just blew Oklahoma State off the ball. Then they will see the adjustments Oklahoma State made to put the pressure on the quarterback. At most SEC schools, if the defensive coordinator does not want you to run the ball, it is going to be difficult to run the ball. Ellis Johnson of South Carolina is one of the best defensive coordinators in college football. And trust me when I tell you that South Carolina?s defense is better than Oklahoma State?s. Somebody?Joe Cox, Logan Gray, somebody-is going to have to throw the ball down the field with consistency and find No. 8 (A.J. Green).
.................................................................

It?s hard to stretch the field when you don?t have the arm, and it?s hard to find AJ open when you don?t have the time.

The Cocks are going to stop the run dead. Cox is going to have to pass to win . And not quick outs and screens like he is want to do.

Oh Shit !

This new rule to protect ?defenseless? receivers is a crock. Get ready for a years worth of bad game changing calls. What used to be considered a great hit (?he got?..JACKED-UP?) is now a 15 yard penalty, based of course on the astute (BWAHHH!) judgement of the refs?geez, talk about a can of worms. Mark my words?this stupid rule is going to determine the outcome of football games (as a matter of fact, it probably already has). Defensive players are supposed to make receivers pay when they come across the middle. And now players/teams are going to be penalized for doing exactly what they?ve been taught to do their entire football lives.

So, let?s see, you can?t lay it on the QB or the ?defenseless? receivers?what about the the lineman and running backs? What about the blindside blocks on special teams, or after an interception?we can?t allow that, someone might get hurt.

I?ve got an idea, let?s just chunk the pads, puts skirts on ?em, and play touch. And after the game they can all get together and sing Kumbaya, and have tea and crumpets.
.....................................................................

:0corn

I really do not like how this can affect outcomes of games I wager on. Putting 15 yd penalties into the refs hands on questionable hits on receivers will make us cappers crazy.

? Last time played Georgia: South Carolina lost 14-7 in Columbia last year.

? On offense: It?s surprising, considering that Steve Spurrier is their coach, but the Gamecocks continue to struggle offensively. After ranking eighth in the SEC in scoring offense and 12th (last) in rushing offense last season, South Carolina managed only one score in a 7-3 season-opening victory at N.C. State. Sophomore quarterback Stephen Garcia was 13 of 22 for 148 yards.

? On defense: South Carolina?s defense allowed only one touchdown (plus two field goals) to Georgia last year, and that was when the Bulldogs had Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno. Led by senior linebacker Eric Norwood (first-team All-SEC the past two years) and junior defensive end Cliff Matthews, the Gamecocks? defense will be a big challenge for Georgia?s questionable offense.

? On special teams: Kickoff returner Chris Culliver averaged 24.1 yards per return last season (fourth in the SEC).

? What you need to know: South Carolina redshirt freshman defensive end Devin Taylor was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday for forcing a fumble, blocking a punt and making three tackles for losses in his first college game. He started in place of suspended DE Clifton Geathers last week and will start again at Georgia, although Geathers? suspension is over. :00hour

? What you might not know: The Gamecocks are opening a season with back-to-back road games for the eighth time in school history ? and trying to start a season with back-to-back road wins for the first time.

? Coach: Steve Spurrier, 171-62-2 in 19-plus years as a college head coach, including 29-22 in four-plus years at South Carolina
...................................................................

I watched the first South Carolina win very closely. I think their offense will be much better this coming week in Athens. They always play Georgia tough. The cocks defense is twice as good as Okie States. They will pressure Cox or whatever QB Georgia uses.

If Geogia defense does not pressure Garcia they will be in huge trouble. And Garcia is just as good a running QB as last weeks QB in Oklahoma St.

GO COCKS !

What was Good?

AJ Green; Get the ball to him
Orson Charles - Tight end, True Freshman
A career-long 53-yard field goal by kicker Blair Walsh.
Drew Butler; Booming 6 punts for a 57 yard average.

What was Bad?

Momentum; had it, didn?t keep it ? lost it, couldn?t get it back.
Turnovers . Georgia fumbled twice and had one interception. The OSU had zero.
Trinton Sturdivant left knee injury in the second half.
Georgia did not sack the QB once.

Opening Game Loss for the first time in 13 years -
IVs; how can you practice in the August heat in Athens and not be able to handle Oklahoma heat? Does Georgia have a conditioning problem, a hydration problem, or a stupid problem ?
Georgia tickets at Athens will be some easy
to get.
Cox was 15 for 30 for 162 yards with one interception ?
Richard Samuel ? break a leg dude

Richt expects Caleb King back this week
By TIM TUCKER

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Georgia tailback Caleb King, sidelined since Aug. 12 with a pulled hamstring, is expected to play Saturday against South Carolina, UGA coach Mark Richt said Monday night.

?I think it?ll be a tremendous blessing for us to get Caleb back and help Richard [Samuel at tailback],? Richt said on his weekly radio show.

Richt also said he expects backup defensive backs Quintin Banks, sidelined for three-plus weeks with an injured knee, and Makiri Pugh, who missed last week?s game after testing positive for swine flu, to be able to play Saturday.

Not sure how this will play out. King is probably better than Samuel , but I have not seen him really bust runs out like he should .

Athens ? A week ago he was D.J. Shockley, the senior quarterback who waited his turn and would lead Georgia to the SEC championship. Today some folks are wondering if Joe Cox is actually Joe Tereshinski III, the senior quarterback who waited his turn and wound up losing his job.

Memo to those folks: Joe Cox claims he doesn?t hear you, and even if he did he wouldn?t be bothered.

?I?m sure there was [negative] stuff said,? Cox said Tuesday, three days after Georgia laid a substantial egg in Stillwater, Okla. ?Half the people who are saying things have never played a down of football in their lives. I?d never criticize somebody like that, but they might think it?s their place to say how someone is doing even though they?ve never done it. I consider the source, who?s talking. If it?s someone who hasn?t played football, I could care less.?

Joe Cox was OK in Week 1. He completed half his 30 passes for 162 yards. He threw one touchdown pass, one interception. He lost a fumble on a sack. ?I did some things well,? he said. ?I didn?t do enough to win the game. There are a lot of things I can do better.?

Lest we forget, it was his first start in nearly three calendar years. He?d had ample time to envision the moment, and he was, he said, disappointed by the arrival of reality. ?To have waited so long, I expected to play better. I didn?t do what I needed to do.?

Georgia had seven snaps beyond the 50 on its first drive; it had seven more thereafter, and two of those were kicks. Obvious question: Was Cox?s much-discussed health an issue? ?I was OK. I was good enough to play.?

He might or might not be D.J. Shockley, but Joe Cox will never be confused with Alibi Ike. He expected to lead this team to great things and expects it still. For that to happen, though, he sees one thing that must be different. ?Just offensively, at times we were playing not to mess up rather than just cutting things loose,? he said. ?That?s what needs to change.?

Georgia might or might not beat South Carolina this weekend ? I like the Bulldogs, for what that?s worth ? but don?t count on its starting quarterback going down quite so meekly this time. And don?t count on him losing his job anytime soon. He?ll be OK. Maybe not great, but definitely OK.

..............................................................

Listen Joe Joe that the wrong attitude

We are fans and sports wagering is our business.

We don?t have to have played a down of football to know that you did not perform how the QB of a top program at Georgia should. And you might ?care less? now, but if you continue to not protect the ball and miss the longer throws, I assume you?ll care when you lose your starting job.

Looks like Richt will again put Cox out there for the majority of plays :00hour

South Carolina stuffs the run hard and forces Cox to win with his passing and this game is in the fawking bag.

The tailback topic

Georgia gained only 95 yards rushing last Saturday and although Richard Samuel had 87 of them in his first start at tailback, he admitted Tuesday that he should have gotten more yards out of some carries by breaking or eluding tackles.

?I?ve got to be harder to [bring] down,? he said. :SIB

On Caleb King Playing -

?How much will depend on this week?s practices and probably also will have to do with what he does when he gets his opportunity,? Richt said. ?He may get hot, you know.? :142smilie

The receiver rotation
One of the surprises ? and mysteries ? of the OSU game is that Georgia played only four wide receivers, not using highly touted freshmen Marlon Brown and Rantavious Wooten.

Richt attributed that to the ?typical? tendency to go with more seasoned players in a tight game but said he expects Brown and Wooten to play this week.

?We cannot go the season with just four receivers, so we got to play those guys,? Richt said. ?And I told [them]: ?You got to make sure in practice you?re sharp.? ? :SIB

The opening game underscored the need for other receivers to complement Green, who was blanketed by the Oklahoma State defense.

?I think this week we?ll have more focus on other guys,? Green said.

Richt agreed: ?We must be diversified. We must spread the ball around.?

The line?s lapses
With so many playmakers gone from last season?s offense, the plan was for the offensive line ? healthier and more experienced than a year ago ? to smooth the transition.</b>

The plan did not hold up in Week 1.

The line ?was hot and cold ... not flawless by any means,? Richt said. A key sack of Cox, triggering a fumble that led to an OSU touchdown, was ?a protection issue,? Richt said.

Worse, the line lost its starting left tackle, Trinton Sturdivant, to a season-ending knee injury for the second year in a row.

Richt said Vince Vance will start at left tackle this week and added that the team is ?anxiously awaiting? the return of tackle Josh Davis from shoulder surgeries perhaps next week.

When offensive gurus Steve Spurrier and Mark Richt have squared off recently, it has been the defenses that have shined for South Carolina and Georgia.

In the past three games between the teams, the Gamecocks and Bulldogs each have just two touchdowns. And don't expect anything different Saturday. Both coaches are trying to jump start offenses that struggled during the opener without changing things too radically.

The offenses for No. 21 Georgia and South Carolina struggled in their openers, combining for 17 points. The Gamecocks (1-0) gained just 256 yards in a 7-3 win over North Carolina State, while the Bulldogs (0-1) had just one more yard in a 24-10 loss to fifth-ranked Oklahoma State.

"As I look at this game I'm seeing two defenses that played pretty darn good and two offenses that are trying to find their way," said Georgia's Richt, whose assessment of this weekend's game could sum up the series since Spurrier started coaching the Gamecocks in 2005.

Georgia's 18-0 win in 2006 is the only shutout of Spurrier since he arrived at South Carolina (the only other came at Duke in 1987). The 2007 Gamecocks are the only squad to keep a Richt-coached Bulldogs team out of the end zone.

"The last couple of years, it's turned into a big rivalry. It's just a physically fought game, especially on the defensive side of the ball," Georgia safety Bryan Evans said.

The game has been decided by a touchdown or less six of the eight times Richt has been on the sidelines. It has often been a costly mistake that turned the tide.

Last season, Gamecocks quarterback Chris Smelley threw an interception inside the Georgia 10 with 13 seconds left in a 14-7 South Carolina loss. In 2002, Bulldogs defensive end David Pollack batted down and intercepted a pass in the end zone, while South Carolina running back Andrew Pinnock fumbled twice inside the Georgia 5, including on fourth-and-1 from the 2-yard-line with 12 seconds left.

"As we know, it's a team that we have always had great battles with and very, very close games. We have won six of the last eight and just about every time we play, the score is within a touchdown," Richt said. "Rarely has anybody scored more than 20 points on either side. The way it's shaping up, it looks like another one of those, quite frankly.":00hour

Spurrier pointed out Tuesday the most either team has scored since he arrived is 18 points. But he is at a loss to explain why beyond suggestions that the teams traditionally open the Southeastern Conference season with each other and tend to play closer to the vest when the game appears to be going down to the wire.

"You sort of get conservative if you don't have confidence your guys can really take care of the ball when you're in a close game like that," Spurrier said. "But at some point, we've got to let our guys go play."

It didn't use to be like this for Spurrier.

His Florida teams averaged 36 points a game against the Bulldogs, going 11-1 as a coach against the team who beat him in his senior year with the Gators, denying the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback what would have been the school's first SEC title.

But with the Gamecocks he's gone 1/3 against Georgia, his team scoring less than 10 points a game and tallying just three offensive touchdowns in four contests. In 1995, Spurrier's Gators threw seven touchdowns in a 52-17 win over the Bulldogs at Sanford Stadium, which remains the most points an opponent has scored between the hedges.

"There's a fine line there between playing wide open and smart," Spurrier said. "Whatever it takes to win the game is obviously what we ought to try to do."

Spurrier promises his team won't play as conservative this weekend. He even threw passes to his receivers at practice Saturday as he tried to find the balance between nurturing a running game that finished last in the SEC in 2008 and barely cracked 100 yards in the season opener and finding the right time to throw the ball down the field with a team that led the Football Bowl Subdivision with 27 interceptions thrown in 2008.

"We know we need to put points on the board to win games," freshman wide receiver Tori Gurley said. "Coach wouldn't mind if we win 2-0, but with him being an offensive genius, he wants us to put points on the board."
...............................................................

All I need is 2 touchdowns and a field goal and this play wins.

Caleb King's status up in the air
By TIM TUCKER

After saying earlier this week that tailback Caleb King would play against South Carolina, UGA coach Mark Richt was not-so-sure Wednesday.

King?s hamstring ?fatigued? during Tuesday?s practice, ?so I would say it is not a slam dunk at this point? that he?ll play, Richt said.

King said after Wednesday?s practice that he doesn?t expect his status to be clear until Saturday.

?You know how hamstrings are ? one day you can feel good, and the next it hurts,? he said. ?I?m just playing it day by day and waiting until game day to see what they say.?

King, who pulled the hamstring Aug. 12 and was not on the travel squad for Saturday?s opener at Oklahoma State, said he watched the game on television ?in my room, by myself.?

?It was weird,? King said, ?because I pretty much knew every play that was running and all the calls.? :scared
..................................................................

I doubt that King will play which is good for this wager.

I hope that King would know all the calls and plays the team was running

UGA shuffles offensive line
By Tim Tucker

ATHENS ? Georgia will have different starters than last week at three of the five positions on the offensive line Saturday against South Carolina.

In addition to Vince Vance replacing the injured Trinton Sturdivant at left tackle, Cordy Glenn will move from right guard to left guard and Justin Anderson will start at right guard, coach Mark Richt said Wednesday.

The shuffle sends Chris Davis, who started last week at left guard, to the No. 2 unit.

?One [reason for the change] is the guys we?re playing are big men,? Richt said. ?Bean [Anderson] has more girth to him, I guess that is the word I want to use. Chris, I?m sure, will end up playing.?

Richt said that against South Carolina?s defensive front, ?you want to get some big men in there to be able to hold up.?

Anderson is 6-foot-5, 330 pounds; Glenn 6-5, 328; Davis 6-4, 290.

The other two spots on the starting offensive line are unchanged: Clint Boling at right tackle and Ben Jones at center.

Sturdivant is lost for the season with a torn ACL suffered in last week?s opener. Richt said surgery likely will be scheduled in the next week or two.

Passing on Brown

Much-touted freshman wide receiver Marlon Brown said it was ?a little surprising, a little disappointing? that he did not play Saturday.

Brown said he discussed the situation with receivers coach Tony Ball, who indicated Brown would play this week.

?We talked a little bit, and he said, ?Just have a good week of practice, and then you?re good,?? Brown said.
............................................................

Anytime a team has to shuffle their offensive line before a big SEC game its not a good thing.

Missed assignments could be common as the Gamecocks storm through the line and sack Cox untouched.

thanks rocky you too

There is a rumor going around that Joe Cox may not start. Something about a bum shoulder.

Steve Spurrier probably started this rumor just to fawk with the two QBs heads.

I get that CMR wants to reward Joe Cox for his loyalty and not transfering and sticking it out behind Stafford all those years.

Alot of good players would leave if loyalty wasnt part of the equation.

But the best players should play. Look at
Southern Cal They weren?t afraid to go with a true freshman QB. Its the old best chance to win thingee.

Two things I love in college sports wagering.

1. QB controversys in big games. Yeh now is the time to bring in the freshman blood vs South Carolina and the Old Ball Coach Spurrier

2. Shuffling the offensive line after losing one of your best players (Sturdivent ) , that will protect the QBs under fire. :scared

I smell moeny and it smells green

I hate it when its this easy !
