for $10 EXTRA you will "automatically" be checked-in "36 hours in advance" giving you an additional edge to board sooner than the other schmucks that can't check-in until 24 hours before the flight :mj07:

yeah, i paid the 10 bucks.

A17 :00hour

It's worth it

yes it is, but they are nickel and diming us, AND making it harder and harder to get a good seat. they always throw in a new hoop we have to jump through that costs extra.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
Southwest sez there aren't limits on how many can pay the $10. So if a bunch do, you could end up in a B or C seating anyway!

what's the over/under on when SW starts charging for checked bags?

Myself, I'm working on Las Vegas in November (or sooner if I can!!) but nothing definite yet...

I'm actually there over the final table of the WSOP. I was staying at the Rio, too, but opted out for my familiar haunt of the Orleans.

You can check in online for free on SWA 24 hours in advance and get a boarding pass.
Do it all the time and always get in the A group.

Why pay $10 for 12 hours earlier.

that's what i'm saying. they make it a little harder, little by little, to get a premium boarding position. and i'll pay the $10, or more, to get that edge

i am one that falls into their little plan :mj07:

by the way; this flight was very light with passengers. only 52 out of 200 some.

anyway, when they had people line up there was one goof that paid the $400-something first class rate and got on first.

my A17 was first out of all the other passengers but some old dude with A25 got in front of me. WTF is wrong with people

no, i didn't say anything but i know agent would have, and i should have too.

just the principle of the matter.

some think a lot of folks might fall into their little plan

WSJ reports:

With the latest tweak, passengers who pay the $10 fee would get boarding priority -- after Business Select holders or mileage-award recipients.

Mr. Krone [Kevin Krone, Southwest's vice president of marketing] said the new fee could result in tens of millions of dollars in additional revenue for Southwest, which flies roughly 100 million passengers a year.

Airline analyst Bob McAdoo at Avondale Partners said priority-boarding fees would bring Southwest $250 million annually if 25% of customers sign up for the perk. But instituting checked-bag fees along the lines of rivals' policies could generate $500 million, he said in a research note.

Southwest Chief Executive Gary Kelly has ruled out introducing fees this year for a passenger's first or second checked bags but has left the door open to adding them next year.

As long as you are in the same numbered section, your lower number does not take priority over a higher number (once again in your section).

I don't remember the breakdowns, but if it is A15-30 in your grouping, then if #30 is in line first, then they would board before anyone else in their group.

At least this is the way I understand it.

Just recently flew Southwest and didn't do the $10 extra deal and still got the A grouping and was like the 10th to board.

Also flew United returning and after their first few rows of first class, they have the next 11 rows at what they call "economy plus" which have 5 more inches of leg room for an extra $39. Didn't do it and didn't think it was worth it, but after seeing that how few of people were sitting on those, would have probably been worth it on this particular flight as probably could have gotten a whole seat row to sprawl out on.

I thought within those small groups of 5, it was open??

Must be my misunderstanding.
