they are calling you now because you donated (or somebody in your household) in the past. We have the state troopers society (not really policemen of course), the local emergency response squad, volunteer fire-fighters (who don't even service my neighborhood), and the policemen's benevolence fund.

Here's what you say...

No, I'm already committed fully to charity x and x, and I have nothing else in the budget to donate. That's what I say, and it's true, and they don't bother me anymore.

The one that bugs me the most is in the summer. They bring kids from the inner-city and chuck them in the suburbs to sell overpriced candy. "would you buy some candy? It helps us to stay off the streets." :sadwave: I never buy their candy or the books they sometimes sell, but I do always give them some water or a coke to drink since they seem to be stranded and dehydrated walking around here in the heat of the day. You know their 'handlers' are the ones making all the money here. Poor kids!

Unfortunately, the Do Not Call Registry doesn't prohibit calls from non-profits or affiliates of companies with whom you already do business.:(

"the bunker"
on the registry and i still get em......my cable t.v. has a caller i.d. feature so that helps quite a bit....

police and firefighters are at least useful...they don`t bother me....what really bugs me is this rag of a local newspaper thats going under(thank the lord) bothering me constantly to re-subscribe....

they can blow it out their fundament..

Jack Generally these people are what they call fraternal orders--and not even associated with them. Most the #'s they call from will be outside your area. The worse thing is if you once give they sell your name--

If you donate to legit org in your area never have them list your name as doner in publication.

I get prob 10 calls a month at office--I tell them this--sounds good and coincidently I'm collecting for trooper island so stop by my office and i'll match your donation.

Clint had the candy /books kids come by--3 of them last week--if you ask them they are from out of town and are dropped off in diff neigborhoods. I don't want to play the con but like you- glad to see them out doing something. I generally give them a couple bucks.

I get those calls too...

I get those calls too...

Have gotten them at home, cell phone, etc.

I always say, "You know last year and years before I used to donate a couple of g's (which is bullshit). You know what I don't think I'm going to give you shit this year because I have gotten a speeding ticket or two (which is usually true)......."
:142smilie :142smilie :142smilie

They still never take me off the damn list but it gets them off the other line quickly:shrug:

Here is what is going on. This actually isn't the troopers but it is some farce of an organization that gets a percentage of what they collect in the name of the troopers. If u ask the state police why they permit this they say why not because they don't have to do anything and they get money for doing absolutely nothing. Well, this is how this works in our area with our police but not many people know it. I just tell them when they find the people that robbed my house i will gladly donate. Some of these assholes get nasty and try to scare people and pull it off because those people don't know what is going on.
