Short Story:

1. Went to dealer and got oil changed (gave me free oil changes for 18 months)

2. Immediately after picking up car - check engine light came on.

3. Turn around and the dealer does a diagnostic. Tells me it's an o2 sensor.

I feel like I am getting fucked in the ass - $280.00 to fix.

Here is my question: Are there any experienced people here that can tell me if this is horseshit?

Could it be a coincidence?

Any input would be helpful - thanks.

Actually $280 is about right. You probably have two on the car one in the manifold and the 2nd just below the catalytic converter. They talk to each other and adjust your fuel. One is probably heated so it's a little more expensive.

You can disconnect your battery cable for 30 secs and hook it back up. That should reset your computer and the check engine lite will go out.

Your gas mileage won't be as good with a bad sensor and it won't pass inspection.

I wouldn't do anything personally.

My check engine light came on over 5 years ago and was told to try filling up with premium gas and it should go out as there might be a little moisture in the tank. It would go out after a bit of driving with the good fuel in there and after a few weeks it would come back on and I'd do the same thing. Finally brought it in and they said it was an o2 sensor, so changed it and paid over 200 bucks and it stayed off for about 10 days and came back on....said screw it and it's been on ever since up until about a week ago when it must of finally burned out :) I couldn't even notice and worse gas mileage either.

Also, a buddy of mine said you can buy those o2 sensors pretty cheap at any auto store and could save quite a bit if you know someone who can pop it in for you.
