Where's the originality Mark Brudett? You can't beat the Steelers on the field so you think waving towels to match their terrible towels is the key? Yet another blatant attempt at free publicity for under (wear) armour hding behind a tribute to our troops. Very sad.

Will this be available for public sale after the game for those who can't get to this one?

I hate it when we try to copy it. It's a stupid tradition. We want to make NOISE! Clapping makes lots of noise! Not waving a silly towel around!!! We just look like copy cats on national TV!!
I don't like it Ravens/UA!
I say boycott the towels, we need to scream and clap!!!
Who's with me!?!?!?1

I've got better things to do at a game than constantly wave a rag in the air like some woman calling for her girlfriend or boyfriend.Gimme a break,Baltimore, are'nt we following the herd mentality here?Voodoo crowd cheering and standing to do it will be definately annoying.I give this genious idea a thumbs down.
Posted by: Dan R. | November 23, 2009 4:07 PM
Stupid, stupid, stupid..Let's stesl Pitssburgh's idea of waiving a dumb towell during the game that just annoys the hell out of people all round you.
Posted by: Dave K | November 23, 2009 4:16 PM
I don't think the towels will help us score touch-downs but i'm sure it will look great on tv how do fans that can't go the game get a towel ?
Posted by: susan | November 23, 2009 4:17 PM
It doesn't seem like a good idea to do a lamer version a Steelers tradition. It kind of reminds me of second tier baseball teams who find themselves in the playoffs with no fan base and need a gimmick to rile up all the newbies. Unnecessary for the Ravens.
Posted by: Richard | November 23, 2009 4:23 PM
I've never really liked these towel promotions. They make us look like we're trying to be a knock-off version of the Steelers rather than an original version of the Ravens. I prefer our own Baltimore traditions to copying other people's stuff, because,. let's face it, the original place something came from is usually going to be the best version of it.
I'd rather they use the money and pay for some tickets for the Big Wheel to attend the game and go around leading a "R-A-V-E-N-S" cheer, maybe putting him on the video boards live from time to time. At least that'd be something from our rich football heritage and not something we're borrowing from an archrival..
And, for Pete's sake, if they do insist on distributing Ravens themed towels to wave around, please make them of better quality than the previous ones they've done. The little paper thin six inch towels that have occasionally been distributed had a pretty cheap look and feel to them.
I hate to look a free anything in the mouth, but I feel like if the best they can do is a rip-off of the Steelers' terrible towel only made in a much cheaper way, they ought to just skip the promotion.
Posted by: John | November 23, 2009 4:33 PM
What an awful idea. As a Ravens fan I don't want to be like the Steelers in any way.
Posted by: Tom Hedrick | November 23, 2009 4:42 PM
You've got to be kidding me? Those little barney towels aren't gonna help. I guess imitation is the highest form of flattery, so I guess the Steelers should thank all you ratbirds fans.
Posted by: Pgh BigDog | November 23, 2009 4:44 PM
ugh seriously? the point is to separate ourselves from those in-breds, not copy their stupid bath towels. What a terrible and embarrassing idea.
Posted by: Ben | November 23, 2009 4:55 PM
Worst. Idea. EVER.
Let Pittsburgh have (and keep) their towels to themselves--we should come up with an original idea, not copy one of theirs.
Posted by: Tom M. | November 23, 2009 4:56 PM
Horrible idea. If they're going this route, the Ravens should do something original.
I'd rather they hand out thunder sticks.
Posted by: J | November 23, 2009 4:58 PM
Who wants to imitate the Squealers?. What's next? Jumbotron instructions to cheer really loud?
Posted by: Jimbo | November 23, 2009 5:03 PM
I think this is pretty dumb. Why do we need to copy Pittsburgh's yinzer traditions when we have our own? I, for one, will not be waving a towel.
Posted by: Big D | November 23, 2009 5:04 PM
I would rather have no association with the Steelers. Much like the Pitt fans screaming out Heath's name every time he touches the ball, way after that was made popular in Bmore.
Though from a marketing standpoint, I am not going to turn down a towel.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 23, 2009 5:07 PM
Oh no! Christ, all the stadiums with towel wavers look like little babies in their cribs. Please don't have towels. We will just look like 6 year old copy cats. You will never get me in a stadium waving a little .30 (cent) towel. Please, Baltimore is far above that 2 bit crap. Some of us remember when a horse ran around our stadium. Please don't reduce the Baltimore sports fans to this. If it happens I'll change the channel. I am NOT watching Baltimore fan towel wavers. You want to wave a towel go to Philly or Pittsburgh. With those idiots.
Posted by: Rich | November 23, 2009 5:11 PM
UN-original. Steelers fans whip around and cry into their towels. Why would Ravens fans condone this idea? I'll be at the game and suggest that all Ravens fans throw their pathetic novelty towels on the field if the Ravens lose. Kinda symbolic of their season.
Posted by: tdsaul | November 23, 2009 5:15 PM
Can't Baltimore be original and come up with THEIR OWN idea, rather than copy the Pittsburgh Terrible Towel?!
Posted by: MarylandMom | November 23, 2009 5:17 PM
Did the Ravens just hire Vinny Cerrato to head their marketing department? If you Google "Redskins Rally Towel", then you'll know what I mean.
Posted by: MCG | November 23, 2009 5:43 PM
Bad idea. Why copy your rival's idea, especially one that is so well known?
Posted by: TJ | November 23, 2009 5:44 PM
How about the team start winning some games instead of trying to prep the fans in how to watch and react at M&T
Posted by: Mr.Cee | November 23, 2009 5:55 PM
Stupid copy cats. Get your own tradition.
Not only are you playing catch up to the Steelers on the field, now you're trying to mimic the Steelers fans in the stands too.
Posted by: STL Steeler Fan | November 23, 2009 6:00 PM
Interesting, is it not, how many teams copy the Terrible Towel idea? Those copy cats seem to miss one point though. The Terrible Towel is not given to fans attending the game. Fans actually have to buy one to show their "commitment, exceptional passion, excitement, and dedication to its team." All of those Towels you see swirling at Heinz Field ( and at many away games as well) were paid for by a Steeler Fan. Of course, Steeler fans do not mind buying this icon of Steeler Fandom, for all proceeds go to help people who face cognitive and physical challenges. I own 3 myself. Maybe the Wounded Warrior Project could use the "commitment, exceptional passion, excitement, and dedication [of Ravens' fans] to their team." to raise funds for the project by selling the towels for a nominal fee. I am sure that Ravens fans are just as committed to a worthy cause as are Steelers fans. Or not. Just a thought.
Posted by: Steve | November 23, 2009 6:08 PM
How about a flappable paper or fabric Raven (about hand sized) that would be more appropriate and look cooler too!...with 70,000 people doing it, Hitchcock would be proud!
Posted by: Joe | November 23, 2009 6:29 PM
I think it makes sense. Not trying to copy them but take it away. There will be a good number of Steeler fans and the white towels will drown out the yellow ones. I think its a good move.
Posted by: Andrew | November 23, 2009 6:38 PM
No way! Why would I want to imitate a tradition of our most hated rival? Give me a break. Did anyone poll the fans on this? If I had a ticket to the game, I'd toss the towel in the first trashcan I found going through the turnstyle.
Posted by: Fred | November 23, 2009 6:39 PM
can someone delete some of this stupid comments above ?
No fan has to take a towel if he doesnt want to.
Think more positive !
Posted by: andrew | November 23, 2009 6:44 PM
?Terrible Towels? are for steeler's fan's, so what are we going to cal;l our's? If you want something to help your team ralley, we should look to come up with an orginal idea instead of copying/following after the steelers. Come up with something new for the Baltimore Raven's cause there is only 1 team in the NFL along with it's fan base that is know for a ?Terrible Towels? and we know who it is.
Posted by: Marc Kelly | November 23, 2009 6:48 PM
the monies made from the T-towel was given by Myron Cope to a sick kids school. All proceeds from the Ravens Rag should go there also. Take the idea, but the proceeds should go to the school
Posted by: dave | November 23, 2009 6:55 PM
The Ravens have distributed towels before... and I'm pretty sure we lost every time they did.. Most of them end up laying all over the stadium too.. Let's just MAKE SOME NOISE and kick some Steeler butt to get back into the playoff race!!!
Posted by: Peter | November 23, 2009 6:57 PM
Hey guess if you cant beat them on the field who stole "HEEEEEEEAP" and turned it into HEEEEEEATH. At least we lose to good teams and not the Chiefs.
Posted by: Matt | November 23, 2009 7:00 PM
That's cool but I hope they are not the cheap crap they normally give out.
Posted by: Boondock | November 23, 2009 7:00 PM
This idea ranks right up there with the Elvis Grbac signing as one of the worst ideas in team history. I truly do hope that fans attending this game will NOT wave the towels. For years, I've been screaming at Steelers fans about how stupid it is for them to be waving dirty towels around and how that doesn't intimidate me one bit. Thanks, Brudett, for making me look like a huge ass.
Posted by: SG | November 23, 2009 7:00 PM
Bad decision. Putting a rag in our hands will keep us from making racket by pounding on the seat in front of us. The yellow towels around me live by a strict rule. Wave away, but if the darn thing touches me you get it back at the end of the game. It works.
Posted by: baltimoreon | November 23, 2009 7:04 PM
I absolutely hate this idea. Who in marekting thought we would like this? I'd rather we be given purple batteries when the Eagles come to town.
Posted by: PeteyPablo | November 23, 2009 7:30 PM
Ravens fans,
Get your own thing, the Terrible Towel belongs to the Steelers and their fans.
Shame on the Ravens organization for copycatting the Steelers off the field as well as on it.
Posted by: Dan Finnegan | November 23, 2009 7:39 PM
I remember almost punching a guy waving a yellow dishrag in front of my face at one game. BAD IDEA. Im all on board with the "PURPLE OUT" and making it deafening loud. It might look nice for a minute on tv. But i dont see waving a rag forcing any timeouts.
ITS THIRDDOWN!!!!
Posted by: TCSOUTHBALTO. | November 23, 2009 7:40 PM
Anyone who's been to games over the years know they've done this before. Got a nice collection of Raven's towels that come in handy at home... but I ain't gonna wave 'em like Steelers fans.
Posted by: Joe | November 23, 2009 7:54 PM
Why copy the Terrible Towel and if you wanted to introduce a towel for the Ravens do it at the beginning of the season instead of when you are finally playing the Steelers that just make the Ravens look like copy cats and make it look like they are trying to be like the Steelers.
Posted by: TJ | November 23, 2009 8:24 PM
Save the money on the stupid knock off towels and buy a big league wide receiver or some basic play calling lessons for "I'm so smart I don't know what the heck I'm doing" Cam Cameron.
Posted by: rvnmaniak | November 23, 2009 8:27 PM
If you are going to copy the Pittsburgh Steelers do it in a way that will lead to SIX lombardi trophies like their franchise has.
Posted by: hate the ravens | November 23, 2009 8:46 PM
Joe, Hitchcock didn't write "The Raven." We don't have two mascots named "Alfred" and "Hitchcock."
But I agree that we need a more creative, Raven-specific cheering instrument, at least one not imitating the Steelers. Awhile ago, they gave out kazoos that made a sound like a Raven. Or I like Joe's idea of something that looks like a Raven, and it's wings flap and make a sound as you shake it- maybe the "wings" could hit together underneath and above the body of the Raven and make a loud noise.
Posted by: Brian Adams | November 23, 2009 8:47 PM
Just make me puke. What's next? A 53 Mighty Men scarf?
Posted by: Rob | November 23, 2009 8:58 PM
Stupid idea to imitate Steelers dumb-looking tradition-- but I'm surprised that's it's newsworthy, since handing out the towels has been going on approx annually for a decade. If Under Armour wanted to really embrace Ravens fans, instead of wasting $$$ on towels, they should help fund upper deck escalators, since the team and MSA are too cheap.
Posted by: Mista T | November 23, 2009 9:18 PM
Welcome to the "chickifying" of the Balt. football fan. This marketer must be a liberal, metrosexual Democrat from Rehobeth Beach. It's flu season;blow your noses in them.Better yet, just pass the plate around at halftime and we'll donate some money that way.I wonder what Steve B. thinks of this imitation?
Posted by: Dan R. | November 23, 2009 9:23 PM
Sorry, but Ive got to weigh in here, too (because I'm sure Mr. Brudett is reading every comment and taking notes)...
Bad idea. I've attended games where these towels were given away and they are annoying, cheap, unoriginal and don't help the team. I can't wait to show my passion by flinging around a little WHITE handkerchief and hitting the heads of everyone around me. The Steelers own it; let them have it.
I appreciate that the PR crew wants to make a visible statement on SNF but this isn't the way to do it. Especially if we end up on the losing end of the Steelers...
Not to mention that "raising awareness" is not the same as "donating money".
Posted by: Bryan | November 23, 2009 9:28 PM
You Ravens fans should make your towels black and gold, then you can look just like steelers fans. A dream come true for you.
Posted by: Deepman | November 23, 2009 9:34 PM
Oh good lord why? We don't need to copy our Arch Rival!!! Sorry, those towels might be for a good cause but they look ridiculous!!
Posted by: Marcus | November 23, 2009 9:37 PM
The only thing the Squealers towel is good for is toilet paper. I'm flying 5000 miles to be in the stadium for this game and I definitely don't want to do a thing that remotely resembles a Squealers fan. Someone in the marketing department needs to find a new job. When you walk in the stadium decline the towel/rag/cheap prop/whatever and prove we are the loudest stadium in the NFL sans a gimmick!
Posted by: BmoreInHI | November 23, 2009 9:42 PM
This is an incredibly stupid and unoriginal idea and I think its disgusting because its an obvious imitation what that putrid organization in Gold and Black does.
Posted by: Daniel | November 23, 2009 10:01 PM
So what's it going to be called? The Ravens Ravishing Rag?
Posted by: Sean | November 23, 2009 10:04 PM
I've always thought those stupid towels were lame.
Couldn't they hand out aluminum foil or something that would make a big racket?
Or maybe some bird whistles? we could all chirp like a raven.
or how about beers. that would be a good thing to hand out to get the fans excited.
Posted by: Tully | November 23, 2009 10:19 PM
The Steelers have clearly gotten in the Ravens' head after last year's 3-game sweep.
Exhibit A:
In the offseason the organization looked foolish when the league made it public that they refused to play the Steelers in the opening game when asked by the NFL.
Exhibit B:
This apparent acknowledgment that they think the Terrible Towel is kinda cool.
Their next idea? The Raven's logo on one side of the helmet of course.
Posted by: Laxer37 | November 23, 2009 10:23 PM
Based on last season, I think you can call it The Snot Rag of Surrender. How perfect that they were -are are again-white.
Posted by: Natalie | November 23, 2009 10:54 PM
Maybe they should hand out purple cheeseheads the next time the Packers are in town.
What a bunch of no talent A66clowns...
